The allowable loads specified in this report for tilt-up/reinforced masonry wall anchors shall not be used in the repair, retrofit and new construction for the connection of walls to horizontal wood diaphragms. 2. The allowable values for the following products shall be in accordance with the attached table lettered A and shall be subject to the requirements of the corresponding tables in the attached ICBO evaluation report. TABLE PRODUCT TABLE IN ICBOES REPORT A TFI 18 B SU Series The allowable loads for C Post Caps shall be determined by calculations prepared by an engineer or architect licensed in the State of California and approved by the Structural Plan Check. 6. Solid blocking shall be required for all joist hangers. 7. Steel materials shall conform to the specification as shown on the referenced Evaluation Report. Test data verifying the properties of the steel, by the mill or by an approved testing agency, shall be obtained for each shipment. The data shall be kept on file and submitted to the Department upon request. 8. Allowable loads in the tables are for the wood fastening devices and its fasteners and does not include supporting members.. The supporting members shall be checked separately for structural adequacy.. 9. Approved products to be used shall be indicated on the approved set of plans. 10. The supported end of the joist or beam shall be within 1/4-inch from the supporting header. 11. Nails shall be common nails except where otherwise specified. Bolts shall conform to ASTM A 307 or better. 12. Approved products shall be identified with the name United Steel Products Company or the USP trademark along with the model number stamped on them. 13. The status of the referenced Legacy report No. ER dated January1, 2003, which is currently beyond its re-examination date is still valid. The validity of the Legacy report was verified with ICC. The approval is based on tests and analyses. This general approval of an equivalent alternate to the Code is only valid where an engineer and/or inspector of this Department has determined that all conditions of this approval have been met in the project in which it is to be used. This general approval will remain effective provided the Evaluation Report is maintained valid and unrevised with the issuing organization. Any revisions to the report must be submitted to this Department, with appropriate fee, for review in order to continue the approval of the revised report. Addressee to whom this Research Report is issued is responsible for providing copies of it, complete with any attachments indicated, to architects, engineers and builders using items approved herein in design or construction which must be approved by Department of Building and Safety Engineers and Inspectors. It is prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 1 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.2 C Series Post Caps: The C Series Post Caps are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. Each pair of opposing legs is bent at right angles in opposite directions, with one pair bent upward and one pair bent downward. The C Series Post Caps are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 2 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.3 D Series Post Anchors: The D Series Post Anchors are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The D Series Post Anchors are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 3 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.4 FH and FHD Series Formed Seat Hangers: The FH and FHD Series Formed Seat Hangers are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The FH Series Formed Seat Hanger is a topmount-type hanger, with the sides twisted outward near the top to form a single plane, with the back flat against the face of the header. The upper portion of the hanger is bent at 90 degrees to form a top flange that installs on top of the header. The FHD Series Formed Seat Hanger is similar to the FH hanger, except that the FHD hanger is formed into a single piece that straddles the header and receives a joist on either side of the header. Hangers of both Formed Seat Hanger series are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 4 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.5 HD Series Heavy-duty Face Mount Hangers: The HD Series Heavy-duty Face Mount Hangers are fabricated from No. 14 gage [ inch (1.9 mm) basemetal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The hangers are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 5 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.6 HH Series Header Hangers: The HH Series Header Hangers, designed to replace jack studs supporting wood headers over door or window openings, are fabricated from No. 16 gage [ inch (1.52 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The hangers are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 6 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.7 HL Series Beam and Purlin Hangers: The HL Series Beam and Purlin Hangers are top-mount-type hangers, flanged at right angles to permit direct nailing to the joist and header. The joist flanges have their apexes at the top, while the header flanges have their apexes at the bottom. The HL Series Beam and Purlin Hangers are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, and are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 7 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads. 2.8 LS Series Light Slope Hangers: The LS Series Light Slope Hangers are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The slope of the seat can be field-adjusted down to a maximum of 30 degrees from horizontal. The side flanges of the hanger are turned in to provide a gripper for joist connections. The hangers are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 9 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads RT6 Rafter/Hurricane Tie: The RT6 Rafter/Hurricane Tie is fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, and is prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 10 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads SCA Series Stair Angles: The SCA Series Stair Angles, used to attach the tread to the stringer, are manufactured from No. 12 gage [ inch (2.66 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The angles are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 11 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads SFC Series Framing Clips: The SFC Series Framing Clips are used to connect studs to plates, posts to sills, or window sills to studs or mullions. The SFC Series Framing Clips are fabricated from No. 16 gage [ inch (1.52 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, and are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. The hangers are flanged at right angles to permit direct mounting to the joist and header. The SP Series Speed Prong Hangers have prongs in the joist flanges to permit quick setting of the joist in the hanger. The header flanges must be nailed to the header. The hangers are flanged at right angles to permit direct nailing to the joist and header, and are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. The hangers are flanged at right angles to permit direct nailing to the joist and header, and are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 15 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads TDL Series Concrete Angles: The TDL Series Concrete Angles are used to hold studs or posts to concrete foundations, and are fabricated from No. 12 gage [ inch (2.66 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The angles are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 16 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads TFI Series I-Joist Hangers: The TFI Series I-Joist Hangers are manufactured from No. 16 gage [ inch (1.52 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The hanger seat is 2 1 / 2 inches (63.5 mm) deep, offset 1 / 4 inch (6.4 mm) from the face of the supporting member, with widths corresponding to the particular supported member dimension. The hangers also include 45-degree-angled nailing provisions for attachment to the I-joist s laminated wood flanges. The TFI I-Joist Hangers are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. Optional nailing tabs are provided to meet specific load and/or installation requirements. See Table 17 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads WE Series Wet Anchors: The WE Series Wet Anchors are manufactured from No. 12 gage [ inch (2.66 mm) base-metal thickness] G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The pronged portion of the anchors is designed to be embedded into fresh, screeded concrete to provide shear and uplift resistance for the supported post. The anchors are prepunched with round holes to receive the required fasteners. See Table 18 for dimensions, fastener schedules, and allowable loads HUS Face-mounted Joist Hangers: The HUS Joist Hangers are designed to support two or three plies of nominal 2-by-4, -6, -8, 10, -12 or -14 joist lumber, or one ply of nominal 4-by-4, -6, -8, -10, -12 or -14 joist lumber. The hangers are fabricated from No. 14 gage [ inch (1.9 mm) base-metal thickness] ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, galvanized steel. The hangers are 3 1 / 8, 3 5 / 8 or 4 5 / 8 inches (79, 92 or 117 mm) in width and 2 inches (51 mm) in depth, with varying heights. The HUS Joist Hanger is prepunched to accept 16d common nails for attachment of hanger to the joist and header, as shown in Figure 19. The nails are driven through the joist at a maximum angle of 45 degrees so that the nail penetrates a minimum of 1 inch (25.4 mm) through the corner of the joist into the header. The joist is to butt up to within 1 / 8 inch (3.2 mm) of the header. The HUS Joist Hanger is available with header flanges bent out or in (inverted). See Figure 19 for installation details, and Table 19 for nailing schedules, dimensions, and allowable loads JUS Face-mounted Joist Hangers: The JUS Joist Hangers are designed to support two or three plies of nominal 2-by-4, -6, -8, -10, -12 or -14 joist lumber, or one ply of nominal 4-by-4, -6, -8, -10, -12 or -14 joist lumber. The hangers are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness] ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, galvanized steel. The hangers are 3 1 / 8, 3 5 / 8 or 4 5 / 8 inches (79, 92 or 117 mm) in width and 2 inches (51 mm) in depth, with varying heights. The JUS hanger is prepunched to accept 16d common nails for attachment of hanger to the joist and header, as shown in Figure 20. The nails are driven through the joist at a maximum angle of 45 degrees so that the nail penetrates a minimum of 1 inch (25.4 mm) through the corner of the joist into the header. 10 Page 3 of 30 details, and Table 20 for nailing schedules, dimensions, and allowable loads CBS Column Base Anchor: The CBS Column Base Anchors are column-post-to-concretefoundation-and-slab connectors used to provide uplift resistance. The column base anchor consists of a strap formed into a U-shape with a formed base support located between the upstanding legs, as shown in Figure 21. The base support is factor-riveted to the upstanding legs. The column base anchors are embedded into the concrete up to the bottom of the base support, with minimum 7 3 / 16 -inch (188 mm) embedment depth and minimum 3-inch (76 mm) concrete side cover as specified in Table 21. The base support is designed to provide standoff bearing support from the concrete for nominal 4-by-4, 4-by-6 or 6-by-6 column posts. The wood posts shall be fastened to the column base anchor utilizing two 5 / 8 -inch-diameter (15.9 mm) bolts. The U- shaped strap is fabricated from No. 10 gage [ inch (3.42 mm) base-metal thickness] galvanized steel. The column base supports are fabricated from either No. 16 gage [ inch (1.52 mm) base-metal thickness] or No. 12 gage [ inch (2.66 mm) base-metal thickness] galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The No. 12 gage base support is used with 6-by-6 column posts. The concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 2,000 psi (13.8 MPa) at 28 days. Dimensional characteristics and allowable loads are shown in Table RSPT Reversible Stud-plate Tie Connectors: The RSPT Reversible Stud-plate Tie Connectors anchor nominal 2-by wall top plates or bottom sill plates to vertical stud members. The connectors are fabricated from No. 20 gage [ inch (0.91 mm) base-metal thickness], G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653 CS, with a minimum yield and ultimate strength of 28 and 38 ksi (193 and 262 MPa), respectively. The stud-plate is 1 1 / 2 inches (38 mm) wide and 4 1 / 8 inches (105 mm) long. The stud-plate face has two parallel ribs running along the length of the plate and is prepunched to receive four 8d common nails on each end. See Figure 22 for descriptive details, and Table 22 for nailing schedules, dimensions, and allowable loads SPTH Stud-plate Tie Strap Connectors: The SPTH Stud-plate Tie Strap Connectors anchor nominal 2-by wall top plates or bottom sill plates to vertical stud members. The stud-plate tie strap connectors are fabricated from No. 18 gage [ inch (1.21 mm) base-metal thickness], G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33. The stud-plate tie strap consists of a U-shaped, 1 1 / 4 -inch-wide (32 mm) strap, available in various leg lengths; and is prepunched to receive six 10d common nails on each leg. See Figure 23 for descriptive details, and Table 23 for nailing schedules, dimensions, and allowable loads THDH Face-mounted Joist Hanger: The THDH Face-mounted Joist Hangers are designed to support two or three plies of nominal 2-by-6, -8 or -10 joist lumber; or one ply of 4-by-6, -8 or -10 joist lumber. The hangers are fabricated from No. 12 gage [ inch (2.66 mm) base-metal thickness], ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, galvanized steel. The hangers are 3 7 / 16 inches, 3 5 / 8 inches or 5 1 / 8 inches (87 mm, 92 mm or 130 mm) in width and are 4 inches (102 mm) in depth, with varying heights. The hanger is prepunched to accept 16d common nails, for attachment of hangers to joists and headers, as shown in Figure 24. The nails are driven through the joists at a maximum angle of 45 degrees toward the header so that the nails penetrate a minimum of 1 inch (25.4 mm) through the corner of the joist into the header. The joist is to butt up to within 1 / 8 inch (3.2 mm) of the header. See Figure 24 for installation details, and Table 24 for nailing schedules, dimensions, and allowable loads Materials: Steel: All connectors listed in this report are manufactured from ASTM A 653, SS Grade 33, galvanized steel, having a minimum yield strength of 33 ksi (228 MPa) and minimum tensile strength of 45 ksi (310 MPa), unless otherwise noted. The galvanized coating conforms to ASTM A 924/A 924M and A 653, with a G60 coating designation. The uncoated minimum steel thickness of cold-formed steel products, described in Sections 2.1 through 2.24 of this report, shall not, at any location except at bends and corners, be less than 95 percent of the listed base-metal thickness Wood: Wood elements must be nominaldimensional lumber with dimensions consistent with those of the connectors listed in this report, unless otherwise noted. The lumber must have a minimum specific gravity of 0.50, such as Douglas fir larch, and must have a moisture content not exceeding 19 percent. Glue-laminated timber must be comprised of Douglas fir or Southern pine wood species Fasteners: Nails: Nails used with the United Steel Products Company products described in this report must comply with Federal Specification FF-N-105B or ASTM F , and must have the properties shown in Table 25. Fasteners for pressure-preservative-treated wood must be of hot-dipped, zinc-coated galvanized stainless steel, silicon bronze or copper. Fasteners required to be corrosionresistant must be either zinc-coated fasteners or stainless steel fasteners Bolts: Bolts must comply with ASTM A 307, with a minimum bending yield strength, F yb, of 36,000 psi (310 MPa) Lag Screws: The lag screws must conform to ANSI/ASME B18.2.1, and must have a minimum bending yield strength, F yb, of 70,000 psi (483 MPa) Design: The connected wood members must be designed to resist the applied loads. The allowable loads for the connectors described in this report are based on the lowest load obtained by comparing the following: 1. Lowest test load that causes a deflection of 1 / 8 inch (3.2 mm). 2. Lowest ultimate test load divided by a safety factor of Allowable fastener and/or compression-perpendicular-tograin values set forth in Chapter 23, Division III, of the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC), or Section 2306 of the 2000 International Building Code (IBC), whichever code is applicable, based on wood with a specific gravity of 0.50, such as Douglas fir larch. Allowable loads for the connectors described in this report are for connectors used with wood seasoned to a moisture content of 19 percent or less, and used under continuously dry conditions and where sustained temperatures are 100 F (37.7 C) or less. The manufacturer s installation instructions must be strictly adhered to, and copies must be available on the jobsite at all times during installation Identification: Each connector described in this report is identified by a stamp or label bearing the manufacturer s name (United Steel Products Company) and/or the USP trademark; the model number; and the evaluation report number (ICBO ES ER- 2039). 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Descriptive literature, calculations, and load test reports in accordance with the ICBO ES Acceptance Criteria for Joist Hangers and Similar Devices (AC13), dated January FINDINGS That the USP connectors described in this report comply with the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC), the 2000 International Building Code (IBC), and the 2000 International Residential Code (IRC), subject to the following conditions: 4.1 The connectors are manufactured, identified, and installed in accordance with this report and the manufacturer s installation instructions. 4.2 Maximum allowable loads comply with this report, and do not exceed the loads published in Tables 1 through Unless otherwise noted, lumber is nominaldimension lumber having a minimum specific gravity of 0.50, with a moisture content of 19 percent of less, used under continuously dry conditions. 4.4 Adjustment factors noted for wet service conditions, elevated temperatures and pressure-treated wood must be considered when applicable. Fasteners in pressure-treated wood must comply with Section of this report. 4.5 For connectors embedded in concrete, the minimum concrete compressive strength is 2,000 psi (13.9 MPa) at 28 days, unless otherwise noted. 4.6 Calculations showing compliance with this report are submitted to the building official for approval. 4.7 Use of the connectors is limited to lumber that has not been treated with fire-retardant chemicals.
