1 SPEC /8 1.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements for the installation of breathing air distribution systems (indoor and outdoor) up to the connection to the breathing air manifold (by others - these manifolds are commercially available and are typically supplied with 4 ¼ male NPT connectors necessary to connect to breathing air hoses). Prior to using the system, initial and on-going use, all of the requirements of CSA Z180.1 must be completed (i.e. sampling, testing, commissioning, maintenance, documentation, etc.). A representative from Occupational Health is to be involved in the commissioning process to address any Respiratory Protection Program requirements. This specification does not include the regulated 100 psig breathing air supply system. 2.0 APPLICATION NOTE for CCNR Repairs and modifications to existing galvanized breathing air piping at the CCNR can be done with replacement in kind material or this specification. 3.0 AND FITTINGS Design Conditions Operating Conditions Design Fabrication Installation F to 11 F Lowest rated component in system F to 11 F Dew point at line pressure to be -40 F In accordance with this specification and: SPEC-3002 CSA B1 ASME B31.1 CSA Z180.1 Piping General Requirements Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code Power Piping Compressed Breathing Air and Systems Note: Requirements of CSA Z180.1 shall supersede all other Codes and Standards.

Schedule 40S per ASME B36.10, stainless steel ASTM A312 Gr. TP316L, seamless, plain ends. Alternative threaded piping: ¾ & Smaller Schedule 40S per ASME B36.10, stainless steel ASTM A312 GR. TP 316L seamless, T&C ends. Class 3000 per ASME B16.11, forged stainless steel ASTM A182 Gr. F316L, socket weld Alternative threaded fittings: ¾ & Smaller Class 3000 per ASME B16.11, forged stainless steel ASTM A182 Gr. F316, threaded ends Use only equal tees or reducing tees. socket weld, raised face, Class 10 per ASME B16., forged stainless steel ASTM A182, Gr. F316L Teflon ribbon tape Gaskets: 1/16 thick ring type inside bolts, non-asbestos, PTFE with inert filler. Dimensions to ANSI B Gasket dope is not permitted. Manufacturer s gasket material recommendation subject to Vale approval. Stainless steel bolts to ASTM A193 Gr. B8M, threaded full length, with heavy hex nut to ASTM A194 Gr. 8MA, with Class 2A fit on bolts and 2B fit on nuts. Dimensions to ANSI B1.1, B and ANSI/ASME Essential variables to be in accordance with SPEC-3003 for the welding procedure (WP) identified. All sizes WP4 1" & Smaller Class 3000, forged stainless steel ASTM A182 Gr. F316L, socket

CF8M, 316 stainless steel ball and stem, full port opening, reinforced Teflon seats and stem seals, lockable lever operated, threaded ends to ASME B Valves to be lockable Class 10 stainless steel check valve, ASTM A182 Gr. F316/ASTM A31 GR. CF3M, lift check or piston type, with hardened integral seat, bolted cover, socket weld. Selection by the Engineer. ½ " Ball Valve 600 psig minimum rating regular port ball valve. Cast stainless steel ASTM A31 Gr. CF8M, 316 stainless steel trim, TFE seats, wrench operated, threaded ends to ASME B Valves to be lockable *Note: Ball Valves, Check Valves and Instrumentation Isolating Valves to be cleaned, degreased and bagged for breathing air service. 4.0 CLEANING Clean and degrease piping system prior to hydrostatic testing. Replace valves for hydrostatic testing. 4.1 CLEANING Clean and degrease piping, valves, fittings, and auxiliary instruments and tubing for breathing air service. Perform this procedure in a carefully controlled manner to ensure that the inner surfaces of all system components are smooth, clean, and free of all foreign

4 SPEC /8 materials. Supply and install spool pieces for all valves in the system prior to cleaning and degreasing. Ensure that the work is performed by an approved cleaning contractor. The following chemical cleaning procedure is recommended. Alternatives are to be approved by the Vale Representative. Flush system with clean hot (160 deg.f to 200 deg.f) potable water and circulate directly to disposal point, to loosen and remove loose debris. Fill system with clean hot (160 deg.f to 200 deg.f) potable water and vent out any trapped air. Add degreasing solution, and heat up to 160 deg.f to 200 deg.f and circulates for 8 hours. Degreasing solution is a biodegradable detergent such as "Numero-Uno Cleaner Degreaser Deodorizer". Displace degreasing solution with clean potable water directly to disposal point until all traces are removed from the system. 4.2 RESTORATION AFTER TESTING Drain the system. Fill system with clean potable water and vent out any trapped air. Add biocide and circulate for one hour. Flush system until clean using demineralized water. Dry the system using dry oil free nitrogen. Cap the system to prevent contamination. Perform a final purge of the piping system by maintaining a continuous flow of breathing air through the system, until the system is contaminant free. 4.3 DISPOSAL Discuss with and obtain approval from the Vale Environmental Department for the disposal of all cleaning fluids. If solutions are disposed of in Vale Sewer System or Treatment System, then solutions must be neutralized prior to disposal.

5 SPEC-3017 /8.0 TESTING Testing must meet the requirements of ASME B31.1and PROC (hydrostatic testing) or SPEC-3048 (pneumatic testing - only at the discretion of the Engineer) and specific instructions in the scope of work. Test Pressure Duration Additional Requirements 22 PSIG 24 hours Test medium to be potable water 6.0 EXAMINATION AND INSPECTION Examination and inspection must meet the requirements of ASME B31.1 and specific instructions in the scope of work. Minimum 100% visual examination for pressure welds or welds to pressure retaining components and a complete inspection. 7.0 CLASSIFICATION AND IDENTIFICATION The piping system shall be painted (classification) and labeled (identification) in accordance with SPEC REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION The following documents were used in the development of this document or have instructions and procedures applicable to it.
