Stage This stage s parts - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 4 - Wing rib Wooden strip 4 x 4 x 00mm You will need Pencil Sandpaper Glue Triangle or T-square 2 2 Remove any burrs or splinters from the ribs and then mark their numbers (, 4 and 5) on them. Apply glue to the corresponding notch of the spar after test-fitting rib. 72

4 Place the rib into the notch. Make sure the projections at the bottom of the rib are flush with the work surface. Also check that the upper part of the rib is flush with the upper side of the spar º 2 Hold a triangle up against the rib and the spar to ensure that it dries at a right angle. Test-fit rib 4 in the notch two along from rib. Then apply glue. 7

7 8 Place rib 4 into the notch, checking that the projections and the top are flush, and that it is positioned at a right angle. 9 Test-fit rib 5 in the spar, two notches along from rib 4, then apply glue to the notch. 0 Place the rib into the notch and check the position, as with the previous ribs. Ensure that the distances between the ribs are equal at the front and back. Here is how the wing should look. Set aside any parts supplied but not used. 74

Stage This stage s parts - Wing rib Wing rib - Rib 5 reinforcements 4 - Wooden strip 4 x 4 x 00mm You will need Pencil Knife Sandpaper Glue Triangle or T-square 2 2 Sand the two ribs to remove any burrs or splinters. Mark their numbers (6 and ) on them to identify them later. 75 Test-fit rib 6 in the notch two down the spar from rib 5. Adjust the fit if necessary and then glue into place on the spar.

4 90º Check that the top and bottom of the rib are properly positioned, then hold a triangle up against the rib and the spar to ensure that it dries at a right angle. Now remove the two reinforcements shown in the picture from the reinforcement sheet. 5 6 Sand the reinforcements to remove any burrs or splinters. Apply glue to the front of the ninth rib of the right wing. Place the two reinforcements into position, slotting them into the spar and aligning them with the outer edge of the rib. 76

7 Now remove the shorter of the remaining reinforcements. Apply glue at the back of the ninth rib, along the dotted line, on the same side as the reinforcements at the front. 8 Fit the reinforcement at the back of the rib, aligning it with the top edge of the rib. 77

9 0 Remove the last reinforcement and sand it smooth. Apply glue to the underside of the rib, on the same side as the other reinforcements. Place the reinforcement onto the side of the ninth rib. Try to align the edges of both as best you can. This is how the wings should appear after this stage. Don t forget to set aside any parts that haven t been used. 78

Stage 2 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib Rib 6 reinforcements - Rib 5 reinforcements You will need Knife Sandpaper Glue Wooden block Pencil 2 2 Remove the two parts from the reinforcement sheet, as shown. Sand them lightly to remove burrs and splinters. 79 Apply glue to the lower half of the front of the rib shown (dotted line).

4 Place the reinforcement flush with the edge of the rib, as shown. Test-fit the reinforcement up against the rib, make any necessary adjustments, and then apply glue along the dotted line. 5 6 Place the reinforcement up against the side of the rib. Make sure it is flush with the top edge. Place the left wing on a block of wood, in the same way as you did with the right at Stage 2. 80

7 8 Apply glue to the notch between the first two ribs of the left wing. 9 Fit rib 2 into the glued notch, resting the back end on the block of wood. 0 Before the glue dries check that the spacing between the first three ribs is equal. Make sure that the top of the rib is aligned with the spar. This is how the wings should appear after this stage. Don t forget to set aside any parts that haven t been used and mark the identifying number on any ribs. 8

Stage 24 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib 2 - Wing rib 4 - Rib reinforcements You will need Wooden block Pencil Sandpaper Glue Knife 2 Position a block of wood underneath the back of the left wing. Test-fit rib in the highlighted notch in the main spar of the left wing. Then apply glue to the notch. 82

4 2 Place rib into the notch, making sure that it is evenly spaced between the two adjacent ribs and that it is flush with the top of the spar. Now take rib 4 and test-fit it in the next available notch in the main spar. Apply glue to the notch Place the rib into the notch, evenly spaced between the two adjacent ribs, and flush with the top of the spar. Remove the two rib reinforcements from the sheet and smooth with sandpaper. 8

7 8 Position the right wing with the underside facing up. Apply glue to the outside of the second rib. 9 Place the reinforcement onto the side of the rib, aligning the outer edges of both. 0 Test-fit the reinforcement along the bottom of the rib, make any necessary adjustments, and then apply glue. Now fit the reinforcement in place. Make sure, as with all other reinforcements, that it is flush with the edge of the rib. The wings should now look like this. Keep any unused material to the side. 84

Stage 25 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib Rib reinforcements - Wooden strip 4 x 4 x 00mm You will need Glue Ruler Pencil Saw 2 Raise the back half of the left wing. 85 Test-fit rib 5 in the wing, adjust the fit if necessary and then apply glue to the notch in the main spar, as shown.

Place the rib into the notch in the spar. Check that the back of the rib is spaced evenly between the two adjacent ribs. 4 Place the fuselage on its right side. Mark a line 20mm from the upper edge of the left lateral fuselage, as shown in the picture. 20mm 86

5 Mark another line 20mm from the edge, located further toward the rear of the fuselage, as shown. 20mm 6 Take a x 5 x 00mm wooden strip from a previous stage and glue it below the marks made in Steps 4 and 5, up against the join between the two fuselage side pieces (dotted line). 87

7 8 Cut off the excess strip once it s dry so that it is flush with the first frame. 9 File the end of the strip to make sure that it is perfectly flush with the frame. 0 20mm 20mm Repeat Steps 4-6 for the right side of the fuselage. Cut off and file the end of the strip so that it is flush with the first frame of the fuselage. The left wing and fuselage should now look like this. Keep any unused materials to the side for later use. 88

Stage This stage s parts - Wing rear spar 2 - Wing rib 7 - Wing rib Wooden strip 4 x 4 x 00mm You will need Pencil Glue Triangle or T-square Mark the rib numbers (7 and 6) on the corresponding ribs. Take rib 7 and test-fit it in the highlighted notch on the left wing. Then, apply glue to the notch. 89 Place the rib into the notch, checking that it is aligned at the top and bottom with the other ribs.

4 90º Hold a triangle up against the rib and the spar to check that the rib dries at a right angle. Retrieve rib provided with Stage 22. Place the rib into the spar, as shown, but do not glue. 5 6 Apply glue to the notches of the ribs that have projections on the underside of them (arrows). Place the rear spar over the notches on the tops of the ribs, as shown. Before fitting into position, look at the next step. 90

7 8 The position of the notch in the rear spar causes the first rib to sit diagonally to the others. 9 Raise the back of the wing up and make sure that the tops of the ribs are all aligned with the rear spar. Apply glue to rib to secure it to the spars. 0 Now take the rib provided with Stage 20 and apply glue to the ends of the two wing spars. Place rib onto the ends of the spars. Note that the ends of the spars are angled, so the rib won t sit perfectly vertically. Your wing should now look like this. Don t forget to set aside unused materials and mark any ribs with their numbers. 9

Stage This stage s parts - Wing rib Rib 6 reinforcements - Wing rib Wooden strip x x 00mm You will need Pencil Triangle or T-square Glue 2 Take rib 6 provided with Stage 26. Test-fit in the highlighted notch, adjust the fit if necessary and then apply glue to the notch. 92 Slide the rib down into the notch in the spar, making sure that it is evenly spaced between the adjacent ribs.

4 Test-fit and glue rib 8 into place in the highlighted notch on the main spar. Make sure the projection on the underside of the rib is resting on your work surface and that it is aligned with the top of the spar. 5 6 Before the rib dries in place, ensure that it is positioned at a right angle. Test-fit and glue rib 9 into place in the highlighted notch on the main spar. 9

7 8 Make sure the rib is aligned with the other ribs and spar at the top and bottom, and that it dries at a right angle to the spar. 9 Test-fit a 4 x 4mm wooden strip from a previous stage in the groove along the tops of the ribs, behind the spar. Apply glue to the highlighted notches of the ribs. 0 Insert the strip into the groove along the top of the ribs. Look at the next step to see the correct position of the strip. The end of the strip should be positioned halfway across the rib, as shown. Keep any unused pieces to the side and check that your wing looks the same as the one shown here. 94

Stage 28 2 This stage s parts - Wing rib Rib 8 reinforcements - Wooden strip x x 00mm You will need Pencil Knife Saw Glue 2 Take a 4 x 4mm wooden strip supplied with a previous stage and place it in the channel in the underside of the ribs, behind the main spar. At the other end of the strip, make a mark at the point shown above. Look at Step 4 to see the correct place. Then cut the strip at this point. 95

4 Apply glue to the notches of the ribs where the strip will be positioned (dotted red line). Insert the strip into position in the notches of the ribs, in the same way as Steps and Take the rest of the 4 x 4mm strip and apply glue along the highlighted area of the spar. Place the strip into the notch of the first rib, up against the end of the strip in the second rib. 96

7 8 Leave to dry, making sure that the strip remains flush with the strip in the second rib. 9 Cut off the excess strips past the first rib. 0 Test-fit rib 0 at the end of the wing and adjust the fit if necessary. Then apply glue to the end of the spar. Fit the rib onto the end of the spar, making sure that it is parallel with the next rib. Your wing should now look like this. Don t forget to set aside any spare material and identify any leftover parts. 97

Stage This stage s parts - Wing rib Wing rib 8 - Wing rib Wing tip You will need Pencil Knife Sandpaper Glue Triangle or T-square 2 Test-fit rib 7 in place on the left wing, in the third remaining notch from the end. Adjust the rib or spar if necessary and then apply glue to the notch. 98 Insert rib 7 into the spar, making sure that it is parallel to the adjacent ribs.

4 2 2 Test-fit rib 8 in place. Apply glue to the notch. Insert rib 8 into the notch in the spar, parallel to the adjacent ribs. 5 6 Test-fit rib 9 in place. Apply glue to the notch. Place rib 9 into the final notch of the wing, parallel to the adjacent ribs. 99

Check the fit of the wing tip in the last rib on the wing. Apply glue along the dotted line. 9 Glue the wing tip onto the wing, pushing it into the rib, as shown. 0 90º Check that the wing tip is at an angle of 90 to the last rib. Make sure the wing tip dries parallel to your work surface. This is how the left wing should now look. Store and identify any leftover materials. 00
