3 Liquidtight Fitting Brand Strategy Steel City Liquidtight fittings have been introduced to fill a gap in the fittings portfolio. A low cost fitting was required to compete in commercial applications where price is key. Steel City Liquidtight fittings are certified and have sufficient quality for commercial applications. T&B Liquidtight fittings are a better fit for industrial applications where the performance of this superior range of fittings is valued and price is not a focus. The Steel City Liquidtight fittings should not be offered as an equal to the T&B Liquidtight or even talked about in the same context to prevent cannibalization.

4 Component Comparisons Gland Nut Sealing Ring Ground Cone Body Lower Seal Lock Nut

5 Gland Nut Has a flat top to it which could allow the retention of liquid at the seal. Profile on sides are rounded with only very small flat areas. Not as easy to install as the T&B LT. The threads on are continuous. If water were to get in between the gland nut and the conduit it could remain there and potentially cause corrosion. Umbrella design pushes liquids away from the box (no pooling). Double-plated for extra protection. Large flat areas on the circumference of the gland nut allow for a firm grip which makes installation easy. 7 threads for strength, not continuous. Self cleaning any grime on the threads has a path out. Serrated threads provide fail safe for water to escape.

6 Sealing Ring Has a split in it this makes it easy to install over the conduit and closes up when the gland nut is tightened providing a liquidtight seal that meets the UL standard Double-beveled no wrong way to install this Does not have a split in it. Double beveled- no wrong way to install Soft pliable material slides easily onto conduit Flexible enough to provide a custom seal to the conduit when gland nut is tightened.

7 Ground Cone Standard ground cone found in many fittings on the market. Screws into the conduit and provides the required level of bonding and pull out strength required by the UL standard. Safe Edge TM Ground Cone provides a great contact with the conduit. Provides superior bonding and high pull out force. Ideal for the not so perfect conduit cut. Reusable construction. Steel construction with duraplate coating for corrosion protection.

8 Body Standard machined threads Body is steel tube straights sizes 3/8-2 Body is malleable iron Straight sizes 2 ½ 4 and all 45 s and 90 s Insulator is glued in like most others in the industry Threads are rolled gives superior strength and eliminates burrs making installation easier and faster. Plenty of threads make for a more secure connection Drawn steel body Heat curled insulator - held in position more securely than glued type, curled edge has less resistance for wire pull.

9 Lower Seal Standard nylon construction Comes with the fitting 316 stainless steel ring provides corrosion protection and prevents elongation. Filled with TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) to provide a higher temperature rating and better chemical resistance compared with other sealing gaskets Not all applications require it e.g. not required when fitting is used in a threaded hub or tapped hole. Seal is sold separately.

10 Locknut Standard steel Locknut Case hardened provides superior strength Sharp teeth bite through paint and finish to create a superior bond. Teeth prevent locknut from spinning if tightening from the fitting body

11 Summary T&B Liquidtight fittings are a superior fitting- the best on the market today. The Steel City Liquidtight fitting was introduced to protect that position by providing a low-price alternative for commercial applications to protect the price position of the T&B Liquidtight. Steel City Liquidtight fittings should not be offered as an equal to the T&B Liquidtight or even talked about in the same context. We must not cannibalize the sales of the T&B Liquidtight! There is a gap in the market which we cannot compete in with the T&B Liquidtight due to its price. This is where there is a play for the Steel City liquidtight fittings. We need to take shelf space from our lower-priced competitors, not from ourselves.
