8 Disassemble main board Step 5: Disassemble the main board (To be cont d) After removing the mid-frame, another two screws (Circled in Pink) are found which are used to attach the main board to the chassis. 22 Alternate Solutions Rotary install SO alternate solution: In this situation rotary installed standoffs may be used instead of carbon steel inserts. This removes the need to cast a part with extra height for mounting holes for insert installation. It also reduces the raw material needed for the chassis and simplifies the process for chassis production. Refer to slides #10, #14 Rotary Installation Replace weld standoffs or cold press-in inserts with rotary installed standoffs. Uses torque and reduced axial force to prevent damage to cosmetic surfaces. Micro fasteners install into material as thin as 0.5mm. No protrusion above the top surface of the panel. Requires a blind milled hole. 22

The threaded inserts found in this device can be replaced with MSIB inserts. micropem aluminum SI series inserts provide an effective method for reducing product weight and in a variety of designs and sizes are recommended to replace the brass inserts. Alternate Solutions TackSert alternate solution : All of the screws threaded into brass inserts in this machine can be totally replaced with micropem TackSert.

25 Alternate Solutions TackSert alternate solution : All of the screws threaded into brass inserts in this machine can be totally replaced with micropem TackSert. The TackSert pins can permanently install into plastic materials and eliminate cost of brass inserts at the same time. Installation will be faster by changing to press-in over turn-in. The TackSert can eliminate the need for loose hardware, while providing a permanent solution. Refer to slides #14, 25

26 Conclusions and Summary The Google Pixel is an intelligently designed device. The plastic part is mold on the Aluminum alloy chassis and total 16 pieces fasteners are used. Lots of parts are connected with adhesive. PennEngineering offered micropem FASTENERS can be fastening solutions to directly and/or indirectly replace the joining used in this device within our current manufacturing facilities. In addition to direct replacement, perhaps some manufacturing and material substitution for functional and cost improvement, some alternate fastening suggestions are presented for specific situations. All screws can be quoted as direct PEM replacements. All screws and brass inserts can be quoted as direct PEM TackSert. The brass insert can be quoted as direct PEM brass insert replacements or inserts made from Aluminum for weight saving. All carbon inserts pressed in casting can be quoted as direct PEM nuts for casting. All carbon inserts pressed in casting can be replaced with rotary installed standoffs for faster installation time and reduce the process cost of chassis. Additional savings could be realized by using micropem FASTENERS being fed, positioned and installed automatically in an installation system to install fittings into the components in this machine. 26
