34 INSTALLATION PLANNER Eyeplay is a projector based solution that turns any floor or wall into an interactive surface. Eyewall uses an overhead projector and a variety of motion sensors that change the projected images, video and sound in real-time in reaction to how people move on the floor. About This guide provides a list of recommendations intended to help you decide where and how to install your new Eyeplay system. Key Requirements Note the following key requirements for a successful Eyeplay installation: Choose the right location Install the Eyeplay components properly Select a suitable projector Ceiling Height The Right Location Eyeplay has been successfully installed in FECs, museums, amusement parks, department stores and playgrounds. Eyeplay will entertain captive audiences anywhere they are waiting or passing by. Projection Dimensions 2.5 meters 231 x 173 cm 3.0 meters 272 x 304 cm 3.5 meters 312 x 234 cm 4.0 meters 352 x 264 cm 4.5 meters 393 x 295 cm 5.0 meters 433 x 325 cm Try to avoid the following locations: Mass transportation locations such as terminal hallways. Location near stairways, entries and escalators. Placing EyeStep at main entries or exits could create congestion and prevent people from easily entering and leaving the facility. Areas near video or TV screens. People may get distracted by non interactive display systems and may not notice the interactive aspect of EyeStep. Over crowded locations. Too many people standing on the projected image will hide it and neutralize the overall experience. 34

35 INSTALLATION PLANNER Eyeplay Main Components Projector the projector should be mounted to the ceiling or on a truss. To minimize shadows casted by users, it is recommended to locate the projector right above the center of the projected display Four small holes are needed to screw the projector to the ceiling. Computer The computer runs the EyeStep software. It is connected to the camera, beamer, and projector. We recommend placing the computer relatively close to the projector. However, the computer can also be placed 1015 meters away from the projector. Sensor Camera The sensor camera detects body motions. It should be installed close to the projector, right above the center of the display. Infra Red (IR) Illuminator The IR illuminator is also installed near the sensor camera and assists in the motion detection. Speakers (optional) To increase the overall sensation, interaction and background audio sounds can be added. The speakers should be mounted right above the interaction zone. Monitoring Webcam (Optional) The webcam can be used for remote monitoring via the EyeControl system. The webcam should be able to capture the entire environment and not only the interaction zone. Front Surface Mirror (Optional) You can mount the projector horizontally facing a front surface mirror mounted at 45. We recommend using a front surface mirror when the distance between the ceiling and the floor is less than 3.5 meters. You can also use a mirror to hide the projector and the EyeStep components above a floating ceiling. *Note: Make sure that the areas surrounding the computer and the projector are well ventilated. 35

36 INSTALLATION PLANNER Floor/Wall Display: Floor/Wall Color a smooth, non-reflective or bright colored surface is required. A good display is achieved on wood, marble or carpet. In some cases, it is recommended to cover the floor with white vinyl. Display Dimensions A large display will have a better impact than a smaller one. The minimum recommended display size is 1.7 x 2.3 meters. The display size is affected by two parameters: The distance between the projector and the floor the ceiling should be at least 3.5 meters high. The projector lens ratio the recommended lens has 1.25 throw ratio. Display Ratio and Shape The common display ratio is 3:4. The default display shape is rectangle. However, by using the Eyeplay mask feature, any other shape can be achieved. *Note: Multiple Eyeplay systems connected together can create one very large interactive display perfect for when you need a projection size or shape unachievable with a single projector. Lighting Conditions: Look for areas that are not brightly lit or a stronger projector will be required. To emphasize the floor projection zone and to increase its contrast, you can consider painting the walls surrounding the display a dark color. Avoid areas where there are rapid lighting changes or moving objects like posters blowing in the wind or blinking lights from a disco floor. Avoid any location with direct sun light or partial shadowing as both the projected image and the interaction may be negatively affected. 36

37 EYEWALL INTERACTIVE WALLS An interactive wall and surface solution that turns any surface into a motion activated display. Interactive wall displays create a unique space where graphics and content are affected by human touch and movement.
