3 What Is JScore? Jscore is a PC based Judo scoreboard system based on the latest revision of the IJF rules. It has been developed to provide Judo clubs everywhere a with an extremely cost-effective, but professional alternative to the currently available electronic scoreboard systems. All you need is a Windows PC with dual monitor facility, a sound card and some speakers! The size of the scoreboard is only limited by the size of the screen you can get your hands on! Just add qualified Referees, and a mat and you have a tournament! JScore was written for Coventry Judo Club, and all copyright and IPR s rest with the club. It was written for the benefit of the club, and also to provide all Judo clubs with an easily affordable scoring system, which will hopefully encourage MORE TOURNAMENTS, and assist in the development of better Judo for Britain. One significant aim is to help our young Judoka to know what to expect when they participate in tournaments 3 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

4 Technical Requirements Jscore requires dual monitor support to work correctly. Most modern Laptops and PC s now support this facility. Jscore is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. There are currently no plans to release a Mac version, but if demand is sufficient we may consider this. Minimum Specifications CPU minimum x86 Pentium Class 1GHz Recommended 2Ghz 1GB Ram (Recommended 2GB) 20 MB Disk Space Dual Display Graphics Adapter Screen Resolutions The screen resolution of the scoreboard screen can be set to any value, as the program will automatically scale the scoreboard to fit. The resolution of the control panel screen is recommended to be a minimum of XGA, (1024 x 768). This screen is not scaled. Lower resolutions may require scrolling to access all controls on the panel. Getting Connected Since there are a vast number of hardware combinations out there, how you connect your own hardware is beyond the scope of this document. 5 Getting Started - Installing Jscore Jscore is available as a self-extracting executable downloadable from Click on Save then Run You may receive a warning that the publisher is untrusted. If you do trust us (we hope so), please run the file. This will open the following dialog: Make sure that you enter the directory that you want the installation files to be copied into, in the dialog. Then Click Unzip. Once the setup files have been unzipped, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory that you selected and run the file Jscore.msi. This will install Jscore onto your system. A shortcut will be created on your desktop, and the program will be added to your programs menu. 5 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

7 Using Jscore The Control Panel Upon starting the program, the user is presented with the main control panel. This panel is used by the timekeeper to control the scoreboard. The control panel is divided into three main sections The first part of the box is a miniature scoreboard, complete with all the features of the main scoreboard, including hold down timers, medical indicators, penalty indicators, contest timer, and default details for the current stage of the tournament. (The stage details are displayed on the main scoreboard). This panel provides the time keeper with an exact representation of whatever the main scoreboard is displaying at any given time. It also provides the timekeeper with access to the timer controls for the contest. (Note these can only be accessed when the main scoreboard screen is open). 7 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

8 The Three Watch Icons are actually buttons that are used to start and stop contest timers. The HAJIME button is used to start the main contest timer, and also to stop it. The Clock display will change colour from RED to GREEN when the clock is active (on both the control panel mini screen and the main scoreboard display). The other two watch icons are for the Oseakomi timers. The left for the blue player and the right for the white player. Clicking either of these will start the hold down timer for the player selected. Starting a hold down timer Once a timer reaches 15 seconds a Yuko is automatically added to the score of the player who is holding, this will flash, and when the timer reaches 20 seconds the Yuko will be deducted and a wazari added (If a wazari has already been scored then this will produce awezeti Ippon and end the contest) After 25 seconds Ippon is displayed, the Wazari deducted and the contest ends, with the Timer being stopped and reverting to RED text. Stopping a hold down timer At any time, if the hold is broken and the referee shouts Toketa simply click the holding players Watch and the timer will be frozen. It may be that the referee calls Sonemoma to freeze the contest. If this is the case, the count can be resumed by simply clicking the watch icon again. If the hold is indeed broken, the timekeeper can then press the Reset button next to the appropriate watch. This will reset the timer to 0, and any flashing score will be made permanent and the flashing will stop. Swapping a hold down timer In the heat of the moment it is easy for the timekeeper to sometimes press the wrong players Watch. If this is the case simply press the <> key. This will transfer any time and score accumulated to the correct player, and resume the correct timer. The Toolbar Various program options can be set from the toolbar. 9 Scoreboard Style This option allows the user to choose between the 4 (currently) available scoreboard styles. Modern An addition feature of the Modern style is the support for International flags. More about that later. 9 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

11 Retro Changing Preferences Selecting the Stage menu option, allows you to select which Stage will be displayed on the main scoreboard. Ie Preliminaries Selecting the Category option allows you to select the most common weight categories for men and women, boys and girls. There is also the option Other for each category, which allows for free text entry for categories that aren t included. 11 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

12 Contest Times Contest times are set by accessing the Clock menu item on the main tool bar. Either a preselected time can be selected for 2 5 mins, or any other integer value can be set by selecting Other from the menu. Golden Score Times Either a preselected time can be selected for 2 5 mins, or any other integer value can be set by selecting Other from the menu. International Flags Clicking the Set Flags menu option on the toolbar will open the Flag Selection Dialog 12 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

13 This dialog allows you to select any International flag for both the Blue player and the White Player. These flags will be displayed on the Mini Scoreboard on the control panel, but currently will only be displayed on the Modern style scoreboard. To select a flag for the blue player, first of all select the Country Index menu for the country that you require ie) C for Canada, Then select the flag from the next drop down menu. Repeat the process for the White player. To clear the flags click both the blue and white clear buttons. 13 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

14 Note that Flag selections will be shown on mini scoreboard, regardless of which Scoreboard Style is selected. The Main Scoreboard controls Starting a contest Before starting a contest you first set your preferences as described in the previous sections. You can type in player names if you wish (These will be displayed on the main scoreboard), and you may assign international flags to each player. You will have set the contest length to the appropriate value for the event that you are conducting, and you will have selected the style of scoreboard that you wish to use. You will also need to set the length desired for Golden Score Before the contest can be started, the main scoreboard needs to be opened. This is done by clicking the Open/ Hide Button. Whatever style of scoreboard you have selected will be displayed and the buttons panel will now look as shown below. Also now all of the timer controls and score controls will be active. (Until you click Open they are all disabled). Golden Score Notice that the Open button has now changed to Hide. This does what it implies, ie) Click Hide and the main scoreboard display is hidden. Also the RESET button is enabled. This button is used at the end of the contest to reset all scores and timers to 0, ready for the next contest. 14 Jscore Coventry Judo Club

15 If a contest runs to time, and both competitors have equal scores (or no score), clicking the Golden Score button, will reset the timer to the time you have pre-set for Golden Score. Also, when running in Golden Score mode, the 1 st score or penalty (excluding the 1 st shido) awarded will end the contest, the clock will stop, and the Gong will sound. The Close button is deactivated. This is normally used to exit the program. It will be re-enabled when the Hide button is clicked. Once the Golden Score contest has completed, clicking the Reset button will revert JScore back to normal operation, and reset the contest timer according to contest length, rather than golden score length. Hajime To start the contest click the HAJIME Watch timer. (The legend will immediately be changed to MATTE ). The clock will now turn green, and start counting down. Pausing and restarting the contest Simply click MATTE, and the contest timer will pause, and if any hold down timer is currently active, that will also pause, and the clocks will be displayed in RED. 16 Scoring and Score Correction Scorning is quite straight forward, Each score and penalty type has a + and a - button for each player. Score corrections can easily be applied at any time by simple using the -. Score Accumulation Some scores simply accumulate, others add up for example, no amount of yuko s will ever make a wazari, but two wazari s make an Ippon. Also, when a shido is awarded against a player for the first time, this is simply classed as a warning, and no score is awarded to the opposing player. However, a subsequent shido (will add up to a chui) and add a yuko to the opponents score. A further shido (will add up to a kiekoku) and add a wazari to the opponents score. A further shido will result in Hansokumake, and the player will be disqualified, the opponent awarded Ippon. The screen below shows the white player having been penalised with a shido. 17 Note that there are now two flags and also that the Blue player has been awarded a yuko. The Control Panel screen displays the Chui as a C The Panel would display S for shido, K for Kiekoku and H for Hansokumake. Medical Clicking the Medical + button will display a small red cross on the main scoreboard screen. It will also pause the contest. Up to three medical interventions are allowed per player. Sounds Currently a loud Gong noise is used to indicate the end of the contest. We will be making this a user selectable feature shortly. 17 Jscore Coventry Judo Club
