5 Host Preparation Here are a few tips to help you prepare yourself and your cast for the office murder mystery. Read the Guide on How to Host a Host-Party Office Murder Mystery. This guide will give you all the specifics on preparing for and hosting your party. This guide should have been ed to you upon purchase. 6 Guest Instructions Playing one of our murder mysteries requires no special acting abilities, just a willingness to have fun. Our site gives you all the details you need to prepare for the party including character descriptions of all guests, internal information about your character (do not reveal this to others), and costume/prop recommendations. The most important rules to remember are these: 1. Stay in character at all times. (Costumes are highly recommended) You may even consider coming prepared to use a silly foreign accent and a few idiomatic expressions in the native language of your character. 2. Hide/Stretch the truth, but never lie unless instructed to. During the party, each of you will be given clues. The clues provide all the information required to unlock the mystery. Each clue is designated as a clue to be concealed or a clue to be revealed. The Reveal clues in each round are the information that will need to be shared so that the story can emerge. But this is a conversation -- you should make the clues you are revealing sound as if they are a natural part of the dinner conversation. Try to stay 'in character?, so that the clues make sense as they are revealed. Conceal clues contain instructions on how to react when somebody reveals something about your character during a round. When not revealing or concealing clues, remain in character and try to engage in discussion based on the clues that have been revealed. As the game progresses, you will gather more and more information and at the end of the allotted time you will need to sift through fact and fiction to decide who is the murderer. 7 Round 1 - An Off-key Announcement Round Instructions Before this round starts: 1. Make sure that everyone has a drink in their hand. 2. Take Juliette Lablonde aside to somewhere private and squirt a little ketchup in her hair, towards the top of her head (but don't make it look obvious). 3. Give Hansen der Loos the Receipt Clue, the Blood-stained Whiskey Bottle Clue and the Murder Reveal Statement Clue. 4. Give Henry Schmuckenheimer the Ledger Page Clue. 5. Ask Hansen der Loos to begin the game by reading the statement contained in the Murder Reveal Statement Clue. Once the Murder Reveal Statement Clue has been read out, pass out the other Round 1 clues to guests and begin the round. Host-Party.com Office Murder Mystery Games Page 4 of 11

8 Round 1 Clue for Audrey Horsington-Smythe Von Karyon in the jacuzzi Just before 4pm this afternoon, on your way to you dressing room to do some violin practice, you saw von Karyon entering the jacuzzi changing room. As the jacuzzi changing room adjoins the jacuzzi, and as Juliette Lablonde was taking a bath at the time, you politely suggest that perhaps the conductor was going to join Mademoiselle Lablonde in the jacuzzi for a bit of post-concert "relaxation"... This clue should be revealed to others. "- Round 1 Clue for Francesca Zingalotti Noisy violin practice While you were in your dressing room this afternoon you heard Audrey Horsington-Smythe practicing her violin. She insisted on playing her scales over and over again for a full hour between 4 and 5. Che schiamazzo! You are still recovering from the headache it gave you. This clue should be revealed to others. 9 Round 1 Clue for Hansen der Loos Murder Reveal Statement The host will have also given you the Receipt Clue and the Whiskey Bottle Clue. Make sure you have these nearby and ready to present. Once you have the attention of all guests, read out the following statement: "Now that everyone is assembled, please listen carefully because I have something of a very serious nature to share with you all. I'm afraid that our music director Heinrich von Karyon will not be joining us this evening because he has... passed away. In fact, it is my regret to inform you that he has in fact been murdered." (Pause for dramatic effect.) "I found him dead in his dressing room at a quarter past six this evening. It appears that he suffered a blow to the head delivered by an empty whiskey bottle that I saw lying on the floor near the body." (Present the Whiskey Bottle Clue to the guests.) "Please try to stay calm - the police have indeed been called. But you must understand that given the sudden snow storm that has swept through Vienna during the last hour or two I'm afraid we're obliged to remain in the building until it is safe to venture outside. Under the circumstances I think it best that we carry on with dinner as planned until the authorities arrive - which may take some time, given the current weather conditions. "You will all no doubt be anxious to hear some details of what has occurred, and I will attempt to recount what I have seen to the best of my ability. "As I said, there is no doubt that Herr von Karyon was murdered. He appears to have received a blow to the head with an empty whiskey bottle, which I found lying on the floor near his body. And there are one or two odd things about the scene. First, I noticed that he had traces of lipstick on his mouth. Secondly, he was wearing a bathrobe, but it was on inside out. And finally, I found this receipt on his dressing table." (Present the Receipt Clue to the guests.) "Please pass this around if you wish to have a look at it. "And so, my friends, in this most tragic of hours, I ask you to raise your glasses and join me in a toast to the glorious life and career of our late music director, the greatest conductor of our time, Heinrich von Karyon." (Wait for glasses to be raised.) "To Heinrich von Karyon! May his spirit ascend to the heavens as surely as did his music!" This clue should be revealed to others. 10 Round 1 Clue for Hansen der Loos The devoted Helmut Make the observation that Helmut Strudel demonstrates a son-like devotion to his formidable employer, Francesca Zingalotti, and that he appears to do anything she asks him to do. Perhaps even... murder? This clue should be revealed to others. "- Round 1 Clue for Helmut/Helga Strudel A glass-shattering Ave Maria Signora Zingalotti was treated appallingly by that scoundrel Heinrich von Karyon - der Hund! She was angry and rightfully so, in your opinion. And it has been affecting her singing during practice sessions. You remember thinking this when you two were running through one of her arias last week (you believe it may have been Schubert's "Ave Maria"). Francesca Zingalotti (The Italian Opera Singer) Description: Francesca Zingalotti is a somewhat world-famous Italian opera singer. The flamboyant diva's extraordinary talent (or perhaps the fact that she is married to the orchestra's business manager) sees her invited back again and again to perform with the Reichen Wichser Symphony Orchestra in Vienna. A fading beauty, Signora Zingalotti was conducting a not-so-secret affair with the orchestra's music director, Heinrich von Karyon. Motive: You are an egotistical woman who treats most of the people around you (with the exception of Strudel) with a mixture of disdain and hauteur. This divalike behavior also includes breaking out into song mid-conversation - to the alarm and/or amusement of onlookers. Though married for many years to the Reichen Wichser Symphony Orchestra's business manager Hansen der Loos, your long-standing affair with its music director, conductor Heinrich Von Karyon, is an open secret in the classical music world. When this affair ended a few months ago you were devastated. It is widely believed that von Karyon was ensnared by the charms of the orchestra's new harpist, Juliette Lablonde, and you're none too please about that. You can't read music. In fact, you can't read at all. Helmut/Helga Strudel (the pianist you employ to help you learn and practise your songs) knows, but nobody else does. This embarrassing secret forces you to treat Strudel with respect and kindness, motivated by your fear that he might tell someone and make you the laughing stock of the international opera scene.
