1 1 System Description CN1 An MMORPG Game Using Oculus Rift The project Game using Oculus Rift is the game application based on Microsoft Windows that allows user to play the game with the virtual reality technology (for our program, we tested and implemented with Oculus Rift) Rather than a LED or LCD monitor (But in case of user have none of a virtual reality technology a monitor is supported), user will have to setup their computer for supporting a Oculus Rift then launch our program to play the game. Our game does not only provide a virtual reality technology support but it also allows user to act or communicate the game system with their voice for some part of the game (Not a mandatory user have the right to using it or not). Our game is an MMORPG base (Massive multiplayer online role playing game) and not only supports multiplayer but single player is also a choice (character progress for multiplayer and single player is separate from each other, an internet is required in multiplayer). The game controller can be both gamepad or keyboard and mouse. 1.1 Perspective The relationship between our game using oculus rift and other systems, game engines and users is shown in Figure 1. Game using oculus rift project is the output of all component that been implemented and combined within Unity (Game Engine) for most of the project excluding authentication part (registered, login and user information management). Authentication will be provided outside the application product but it is created by our team. Data base will be separate in to two place depend on type of using. For the single player data based that keep the game information and An MMORPG Game using Oculus Rift 1

2 character progress will be saved in application database (local computer) but for the multiplayer data based will provide and keep the data within game server. Users can be anyone. 1.2 Functions The functions of Game Using Oculus Rift are shown in Figure 2. The functions are summarised as: Authentication: Connects between application and game server together provide with registration system and login system, keep user information within their data based. Unity: Unity game engine will provide all component for the game play including game world generating, controller, Screen display, Voice recognition, AI, Map, NPC, Item, Characters,, and In game objects all of these component or function will have a data base for keep their information with in Unity. Database: Database will get or store the users information authentication and then send back data to user application for playing. Database will also store the in game objects information. Voice Command: Allow users to speak to the microphone and recognize some specific words, then do the in game actions according to the voice. Oculus SDK: Generates the 360 degrees images and send it to Oculus Rift. Game World: Generates world map and that contains in game objects in there. In Game Objects: Provide all components for game playing which includes game environment, characters, monsters, items, and etc. An MMORPG Game using Oculus Rift 2

3 2 Requirements The requirements of the system are listed in the following subsections. 2.1.Oculus SDK O1. Oculus SDK must be able to render images for the Oculus Rift. O2. Oculus SDK must be able to integrate with Unity. 2.2.Unity (Game Engine) U1. Unity must allow user to control the character via mouse and keyboard. U2. Unity should allow user to control the character via game controller. U3. Unity must support Oculus Rift for displaying the game screen. U4. Unity must allow user to look around 360 degrees by moving his/her head. U5. Unity must provide system for user to save character progress. U6. Unity must provide system for user continues with the saved character progress. U7. Unity must provide a total environment that can be explored comprehensively and has a sense of stable (game world). U8. Unity must provide system for user to create their character with provided choices. U9. Unity must provide system for user to name their character. U10. Unity may provide system for randomly spawning enemies in the area with was set by developer. U11. Unity must provide system for drop item whenever AI (enemies) is died follow the possibilities set by developer. U12. Unity must provide system to drop item from a treasure box (object in the game). U13. Unity must provide system for user to combat with another player. U14. Unity must provide system for user to combat with AI. U15. Unity must provide system for user to have a conversation with NPC (Non player character). U16. Unity should provide system for user to sell their belonging item to NPC. U17. Unity should provide system for user to buy an item from NPC. U18. Unity should provide system for user to store items with their character with a limited set specified by developer. U19. Unity should provide system for user to discard any item that belongs to them. U20. Unity must show graphic to user rendering by unity. U21. Game engine should provide system for user to discard any item that belongs to them. An MMORPG Game using Oculus Rift 3

4 U22. Game engine must show graphic to user rendering by unity. 2.3.Authentication A1. Authentication must provide a login system to user. A2. Authentication may provide a logout system to user. A3. Authentication may provide a registration system for user to create an account. A4. Authentication may send information between application and server. A5. Authentication must record in the specific database control be developer. 2.4.Database D1. Database should receive data from the application. D2. Database should store the users data. D3. Database should store the users character information (e.g. status, last coordinate, lastmap). D4. Database may store the item information. D5. Database may store the monsters information. 2.5.Voice Command VC1. Voice Command may let the users calibrate their voice in first time of usage. VC2. Voice Command may save the calibration as each users profile. VC3. Voice Command must be able to recognize the users word. VC4. Voice Command must trigger the in game action (e.g. casting spell). 2.6.In Game Objects IGO1. In Game Objects must provide items. IGO2. In Game Objects must provide monsters. IGO3. In Game Objects must provide a character for users. 2.7.Game Controller GC1. Game Controller should be able to read the users input. GC2. Game Controller should do the action according to users input (e.g. move forward, jump). GC3. Game Controller must support Xbox360 Controller(Joystick). GC4. Game Controller must support keyboard and mouse. 2.8.Game World GW1. Game World must provide a map for users. GW2. Game World must provide in game objects for users.
