5 Data Entry Data Entry Data Entry Validation GSIS will raise a warning if a defensive player is given an offensive statistic, or an offensive player is given a defensive statistic. These checks aren t done on special teams plays. In some cases a player can play both sides of the ball (Deion Sanders and Troy Brown for example). If a warning is raised because a stat was given to a two way player the warning can be ignored. GSIS Startup Penalty Changes GSIS will start up faster at the beginning of each game. The Verifying Message History startup step was eliminated. A new penalty was added: IPB (Illegal Peel Back). GSIS will raise a warning if an inappropriate enforcement spot is assigned to certain penalty codes. For example, Defensive Pass Interference shouldn t ever have an enforcement spot of succeeding. Intentional Grounding shouldn t ever have a previous enforcement spot. Play Reviews GSIS now allows two play challenges on a single play. Both have to be team challenges. Several other restrictions were removed with this change. The main one is that you can add events such as a comment event after an upheld play review. You can only have two versions of the play even if both challenges are successful. There is the state of the play before the first play challenge, and the state of the play after all challenges have been resolved. To enter a second successful play challenge you must insert a Review event before the first play review event in the play. You cannot have a second reversed play review event following the second version of the play. This example shows the wrong way to enter two successful play reviews: This example shows the correct event order for two successful play reviews:

6 Data Entry If the second play challenge is unsuccessful it can be listed below the final version of the play. There is a new attribute to the Play Review event: Review Type. This attribute allows you to pick from a list of reasons as to why a play was challenged. The possible choices are: backward pass, first down, fumble, illegal forward pass, ineligible receiver, kick touched, loose ball recovery, pass completion, runner broke the plane, runner was down by contact, runner was in bounds, running into the kicker, safety, tipped pass, too many players on field, touchback. Setting the Review Type attribute is optional. If it s set, the play by play text for the play will include the reason why the play was challenged. Example: (15:00) 9-D.Brees pass incomplete to 87-J.Horn. New Orleans challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was REVERSED. 9-D.Brees pass to 87-J.Horn to NO 48 for 6 yards (77- K.Jenkins).

7 Data Entry Read-only GSIS Play Flagging Sack and Fumble Event The read-only version of GSIS (listed in the Program Files folder group as View Historical Games) has been modified to allow flagging plays if there is an active machine running the full version of GSIS. This should help the distribution center support personnel connect to your game if there is limited network bandwidth. There is a new attribute in the Sack and Fumble event: Quarterback Hit. This allows you to specify a defensive player who should get credit for a quarterback hit on a sack and fumble play. The player assigned credit for the quarterback hit does not have to be the player who forced the fumble. Entering a player in the Quarterback Hit attribute is optional. Scoring Summary Screen A new screen has been added that shows the scoring summary from the front page of the gamebook on screen. To view it, click on the Go menu item and choose Scoring Summary. Shotgun Formation It s easier to enter shotgun formation now. Holding down the Shift key and pressing F11 acts as a toggle for the shotgun formation value. If nothing is in the formation attribute Shotgun will be entered. If Shotgun is the current value it will be cleared. You do not have to have the shotgun attribute selected to use Shift-F11 to change the value. The existing value in the formation attribute will be preserved if it s something other than shotgun. Statistic Changes An Inside-20 punt is given to the punter if the receiver muffs a punt inside the 20 and the loose ball is subsequently batted out of bounds through the receiver s end zone. If a sack gets split, both players will receive quarterback hits. TV Stats Two new options are supported for displaying statistics on a television. The Chyron Digibox and tvone Down Converter are supported. These offer most of the functionality supported by the Chyron Codi (which has been discontinued). You can use all of the rotating screens, the pick-list, and the freestyle text functions. The transition effects, logos, and background images are not supported. To change the type of hardware connected to GSIS, click on the Demo Mode checkbox, then click the Activate Chyron Communications button, then click on the Effects tab. Choose the correct Chyron type. Click on the Deactivate Chyron Communications button, then uncheck the Demo Mode checkbox. You can now click on the Activate Chyron Communications button and use your new equipment.

8 Data Entry Single-Game Record Identification The PR Notes screen has additional functionality. GSIS can look for a number of single-game player records at both the club and League level and mark the record-setting play. The types of records GSIS can identify include most passing yards in a game, most rushing attempts in a game, longest field goal, and many others. To use this feature, click on the Notes button from the vertical screen list, or click on the Go menu and choose Notes. The Notes screen shows the list of plays in the game, a drop-down box to select the type of note to display, and a button to initiate the record search. There are two types of Notes in GSIS: PR Home notes and Record notes. A play can have both types of notes. If a play has a note of the selected type (the screenshot is listing Record notes), it will have an icon to the left of the play showing a piece of paper with a thumbtack. The touchdown play has a record note, the other 3 plays do not. To look for records, press the Get Records button. GSIS will search for records from all the plays in the game. Once the search is complete, you ll get an alert telling you how many records were found, and the last play with a record will be selected. If a play has a record note already, it will not get a new note, and the existing note will not be changed. You can modify the note text at any time. Select the play with the note. Below the list of plays you ll see the note text and edit buttons: The note text is editable. You must click on the Save button to save any changes. Clicking on a different play in the list will not save any changes you have made since the last save point. Clearing the note will clear all the text in the box, clear the note icon from the play list, and delete the note from the database. By default GSIS will look for the top five records in each category for

9 Data Entry record-setting performances. You can limit the number of records by clicking on the Tools menu, selecting Options, and then clicking on the Misc tab: The example screenshot shows a modified search depth of 2, meaning GSIS will only look for performances that either set a club or League record, or were the second best performances. This setting applies to all record searches. You can t look for the top 4 rushing attempt records and the top 2 field goal length records at the same time. You would have to set the Option to 4, do a record search, and clear out any field goal records that didn t belong in the top 2 manually. The Record note text can appear in the play by play. There is an option for including PR Notes in the play by play on the Reports tab of the Options screen. This setting, and the record search depth setting, persist between GSIS sessions and are machine-specific. If you want to include or exclude PR notes from the gamebook you should review the setting before printing. You must be logged in as the entry, audit, pr-home, or pr-visit user to use this feature.
