Two-thirds of the 50,000 gold $5 coins had been shipped and the remainder is expected to go out by mid-july. For the silver dollar only one-third had been shipped. It was expected that the remainder of the 137,909 uncirculated coins ordered would be received by buyers by the end of July. For the proof dollars, shipping of all 262,091 was projected to be completed between mid and late August. Presently, the lowest delivery rate is for the clad HOF half dollars. The Mint expected to get them to customers by the end of July. Delivery of the approximately 100,000 uncirculated half dollars will take a little longer, with the Mint forecasting a mid-august date for receipt. Did You Know? Why does the silver eagle cost so much more than bullion value? The US Mint does not sell the bullion coins directly to the public. The mint sells the coins to about 13 authorized purchasers with a minimum of 25,000 coins. They pay the established spot price per troy ounce plus a $2 premium for each coin. The authorized purchasers have to arrange and pay for shipping of the coins. The authorized purchasers then sell the coins to local coin dealers. Thus the price for a new silver eagle bullion coin could be as much as 20% or more over the spot bullion price. Special Mint Set Halves A curious feature of the Kennedy half dollar series is that only the first year of issue, 1964, is available in Proof format before the transition from silver to copper-nickel clad coinage From 1965 through 1967, the period of transition from silver to copper-nickel clad, no Proof coins were issued by the U.S. Mint. Instead, the Mint sold Special Mint sets, abbreviated "SMS," a hybrid of the annual Proof and Uncirculated Mint sets they replaced. July 2

Website for the Coin Show is: Guidelines for submitting coins for the monthly auction When submitting coins for the monthly auction always try to use the printed club submission form. The club form lists the current submission rules. To conserve printing costs, take one or two blank forms and make addition copies as needed. Submit individual coins in a flip or 2x2 holder. Flatten the staples of a 2x2 holder with pliers. This will protect your coins as well as the submissions of others from damage caused by the raised staples when coins are stacked for transporting. When completing the submission form always verify the date and mint mark on your coin. Coins submitted without a reserve minimum tend to sell for higher prices than submissions with a reserve that's close to the actual value. July 4
