Hammer Unions, also called Wing Unions, are quick makeup and break-out pipe and fitting connectors that have been used in the oil industry since the early 1930s. The primary components in these connectors are a male sub with a spherical contact surface, a female sub with external ACME threads, and a wing nut with internal ACME threads to hold the components together. The 3" 1505 design proof tested to outlast current hammer union technology at least 15 times longer in critical fatigue applications. FMC Technologies Weco 3" 1505 Hammer Union has several improvements over the Weco 3" 1502 Hammer Union that address fatigue and extend life significantly in critical applications. A new thread start marker on the nut eliminates cross-threading and reduces make up time. The new component markings include FMC Technologies figure number, size, pressure rating and traceability for positive identification in the field. The Hammer Union is an option when experiencing fatigue cracking in Weco 3"1502 applications. BENEFITS Improved fatigue life due to significant design improvements. Improved Male Sub-to-Female Sub Contact Surface 3" 1505 has larger face-to-face contact diameter than the 3" 1502, which has a spherical surface-to-chamfer line contact. Larger contact diameter of the 3" 1505 improves bending capacity. 3 LOAD SEGMENTS Male to 1502 Female Male to 1505 Female Angle of the shoulder changed to reduce stress concentration. The Weco 3"1505 port plug on the nut has positive retention groove to keep the port plug securely in place. 3" 1505 load segments are axially symmetric, so that they can be loaded into loading port in nut either way. 4 NUT WECO 3" 1505 NUT Weco 3" " 1505 nut has same markings as that of the 3" 1502, but the batch number was moved as a result of the lugs being moved away from face of nut. Lugs centered to improve fatigue characteristics. The 3" 1505 nut's external thread start marker and thread start feature eliminates cross-threading and significantly reduce make up time. No special marking on 3" 1505 sub ends themselves, but their uniqueness will allow it to stand apart from 3" 1502 sub ends. FEMALE SUB SEAL No partial threads on female sub end. Have at least 4 full threads of engagement on Weco 3" 1505 compared with 3 full threads of engagement on 3" Full threaded start on 3" 1505 female sub end and lead in feature on 3" 1505 nut allow for easy thread start every time. 3" 1505 Seal 3" 1502 Seal The seal features an anti extrusion ring. The 3" 1505 seal uses a barb retention, versus the internal groove on traditional 3" 1502 female seal pocket. 4
