3 Film Portfolio Assessment Do you have a 9 minute film reel and 9 portfolio pages? Total film reel will be 9:30 minutes and total Portfolio pages (cover page, table of contents and works cited) will be 12. Is your document size A4 or US letter? Is your font 12 pt. sans serif (Arial)? Is your name EXCLUDED on your portfolio pages and all film clips? This ensures anonymity in the marking process. Dianne St Clair

11 Does your discussion of the INQUIRY process: Discuss and provide evidence of the research you ve done into the production role you chose - talk about how it is practiced in the industry through citations and other references? Discuss pre-production planning and organizational approach and how you intend to approach the genre, storyline, and/or idea of your clip or film in your production role? What is your plan for practically exploring the chosen film production roles in order to acquire, develop and apply skills, and to fulfill your stated filmmaker intentions? Discuss reasons for choosing your hardware and software equipment and how you plan to use it? Provide visual evidence of your pre-production planning that supports your production role and filmmaker intentions: research, scripts, storyboards, shot lists, location scouts, test shoots, casting notes?

12 Does your discussion of the ACTION process in each clip: Discuss details of your production approach and highlight the skills and techniques you learned and used to achieve your filmmaker intentions in your production role Identify problems you had related to your production role and how you solved that problem; Provide details of your artistic process and discussing how this process has impacted your learning and understanding of your production role; Identify any audio-visual material from creative commons websites or copyrightfree materials used in your production role and clearly state why you chose to use these materials (instead of creating them yourself), where they can be seen or heard, and the ways in which you adapted or altered this material to make it your own ; Provide visual evidence from the film shoot that supports your production role and filmmaker intentions: camera logs, behind the scenes photographs, before/after set décor, shooting scripts, and/or other on-set/location items.

13 Does your discussion of the REFLECTION process in each clip: Reflect on what you have learned about the production role you chose through a consideration of the successes and challenges you experienced? Discuss to what extent you fulfilled your filmmaker intentions and how you have grown as a filmmaker through your experience in this production role Identify what elements of the IB Learner Profile you employed in your process? Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your approach and final work and what you might do again

16 You should have 5 sources of research per production. That is about sources available to cite, if you mention the source within your commentary. Sources to include: Primary sources from influential filmmakers Tutorials and guides Critical analysis from published film scholars Film productions that have influenced you Interviews with filmmakers/film crews Series like Anatomy of a Scene from NYT Industry publications

17 Did you use creative commons or copyright-free materials? You cannot have more than 30 seconds of sound you did not create. The materials must also be appropriately referenced in the submitted list of sources. You are required to clearly state in your portfolio pages: why you chose to use the creative commons or copyright-free materials where the materials can be seen or heard in the film reel and how you adapted or altered that material for use in this task.
