24 WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? SCENE 6 (Another part of the forest. The façade of a brick house is UL. LITTLE RED enters DR, looking around at unfamiliar surroundings.) LITTLE RED. Look at that, Roddy! A brick house in the middle of the forest. I never noticed that before. (PRISCILLA, MELISSA and CLARISSA PIG peek out of their house at their visitor, then come out to greet her. They are dressed in glitzy pink long evening dresses with curly pigs tails attached to the back in the appropriate spot.) PRISSY. Hello! My name s Priscilla Pig, but everyone calls me Prissy. Hi, I m Melissa Pig, but everyone calls me Missy. CISSY. Well, hello! I m Clarissa Pig, and everyone calls me Cissy. PRISSY, MISSY & CISSY. We re the Pig Sisters! Welcome to Pigville!
WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? 25 LITTLE RED. Oh, dear, Roddy! I didn t mean to go to Pigville! We must have taken a wrong turn somewhere! PRISSY. Where you tryin to go, sugar? LITTLE RED. I m going to my grandmother s house. My mother sent me to bring this basket of goodies because Granny s not feeling well. (She catches herself.) Oh, Roddy! Now I ve done it! I m talking to strangers and I must have already strayed from the path! Oh, dear! (PIG SISTERS laugh in response.) CISSY. What s your name, dumplin? LITTLE RED. Red Riding Hood. That s what everyone calls me. I can t imagine why! PRISSY. Well, now we re not strangers. CISSY. Because we ve had proper introductions. She means we all know each other s names now. LITTLE RED. Oh, good! I m happy to make some new friends. But how can I find my granny s house from here? PRISSY. Don t worry. We ll tell you. CISSY. Where d you get those beautiful flowers? LITTLE RED. Oh, that nice wolf gave them to me. PIG SISTERS (look at each other in dismay). You stay away from that wolf, honey! He s nothin but trouble! LITTLE RED. Oh, do you know him? Do we know him? I ll tell her! PRISSY. No! I ll tell her! CISSY. I can tell it best!
26 WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? PIG SISTERS (look wildly at one another). We ll all tell her! You see, we all left home to seek our fortunes. PRISSY. Missy met a man with a wagon full of straw. CISSY. And he told her he could build her a house with that straw. Can you imagine that? And she believed him! Hey! This is my part of the story! Do you mind? Anyway, he did build a nice house for me out of straw. I was quite comfortable there. PRISSY (laughing). It was great if you like a house that smells like a field of hay! CISSY. And smells even better after it rains! Excuse me! Whose house was it? PRISSY & CISSY (stifling giggles). Yours! Then I ll tell it. Anyway, one day this wolf shows up at my door and says, Little Pig, Little Pig! Let me come in! And I said (PIG SISTERS sing with choreography a la The Supremes whenever they sing.) OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! IF I LET YOU IN, IT WOULD BE A SIN! NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY, CHIN CHIN! YOU CAN T COME IN! NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! And he said, Then I ll huff and I ll puff and I ll blow your house in! LITTLE RED. He said what?
HE SAID I LL HUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL HUFF! AND THEN I LL PUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL PUFF! HE SAID I LL HUFF AND I LL PUFF AND I LL BLOW YOUR HOUSE IN! HE SAID I LL HUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL HUFF! AND THEN I LL PUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL PUFF! WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? 27 HE SAID I LL HUFF AND I LL PUFF AND I LL BLOW YOUR HOUSE IN!
28 WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? And I said STOP! STOP! STOP! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING OF? STOP! STOP! STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE! IF YOU BLOW MY HOUSE DOWN IT WILL BREAK MY HEART! SO YOU GOTTA STOP! STOP! STOP! BEFORE YOU START! YOU GOTTA STOP! STOP! STOP! CISSY. But he didn t. He just kept on huffin and puffin. PRISSY. Before it fell down, Missy sneaked out the back door and ran over to my house. CISSY (snickering). Prissy had met a man with a truck full of sticks, and he said he could build her house. LITTLE RED. Oh, no! PRISSY. Well, it was a nice house. You even said so! CISSY. Sure, if you like feeling the wind blow through your walls! PRISSY. Hey! This is my part of the story! Do you mind? CISSY & MISSY (shaking their tails in mock fright). Excuuuuse me! PRISSY. Well, anyway, Missy comes running over to my house, crying, That big bad wolf blew my house down! Well, he did! PRISSY. So I said, Come on in, babe. You can stay here with me. (She demonstrates by hugging MISSY as she says this.)
I did and we were very happy for a long, long time! PRISSY (releases her and gives her a dirty look). Doyou mind? Then one day the wolf came by. He knocked on the door and said, Little Pig! Little Pig! Let me come in! And we said OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! IF I LET YOU IN, IT WOULD BE A SIN! NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY, CHIN CHIN! YOU CAN T COME IN! NO, YOU CAN T COME IN! CISSY. So he said, Then I ll huff and I ll puff and I ll blow your house in! LITTLE RED. He didn t! He did! HE SAID I LL HUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL HUFF! AND THEN I LL PUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL PUFF! WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? 29
30 WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? HE SAID I LL HUFF AND I LL PUFF AND I LL BLOW YOUR HOUSE IN! HE SAID I LL HUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL HUFF! AND THEN I LL PUFF! CISSY & PRISSY. I WILL PUFF! HE SAID I LL HUFF AND I LL PUFF AND I LL BLOW YOUR HOUSE IN! LITTLE RED. What happened then? CISSY. Fortunately, the wolf was so busy huffing and puffing, he didn t notice Missy and Prissy as they climbed out the window! We helped each other out the window! PRISSY. And then we ran and ran! CISSY. Naturally, they showed up here. They were crying and carrying on something fierce. That big bad wolf blew our house down! MISSY & PRISSY. Well, he did!
CISSY. So, of course I said they could stay here with me. I mean, after all, they re family. (She puts her arms around BOTH SISTERS as she says this and grimaces.) Cissy had met a man with a truck full of bricks. PRISSY. And he built this house for her. CISSY. And we ve all lived here ever since, just one big happy family! LITTLE RED. So the big bad wolf never came over here, did he? Oh, honey, let me tell you! PRISSY. He would never give up that easily. CISSY. Let me tell it! This is my part of the story! LITTLE RED. Okay. So you re all living here, just one big happy family. CISSY. Right. Then one day the wolf knocks on our door and says, Little pigs! Little pigs! Let me come in! And we say OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! OH, NO! YOU CAN T COME IN! IF I LET YOU IN, IT WOULD BE A SIN! NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY CHIN CHIN! YOU CAN T COME IN! NO, YOU CAN T COME IN! PRISSY. Then he says HE SAID I LL HUFF! PRISSY & CISSY. I WILL HUFF! WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? 31

AND THEN I LL PUFF! PRISSY & CISSY. I WILL PUFF! HE SAID I LL HUFF AND I LL PUFF AND I LL BLOW YOUR HOUSE IN! CISSY. And we said STOP! STOP! STOP! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING OF?

CISSY. Anyway, he huffed and he puffed all day long! MISSY & PRISSY (laughing). He huffed and he puffed till his face turned bul-loo! LITTLE RED (laughing). No way! CISSY. Really! Then he got mad. He stomped up and down, trying to think. Then he started climbing up the chimney! PRISSY. Fortunately, we had a big pot of soup bubbling on the fire. So, when he came down the chimney CISSY. He landed in that pot of soup. (She starts to laugh at the memory.) PRISSY (laughing). Waaah! he cried! MISSY (laughing). Then he scrambled back up the chimney faster than anything. CISSY. Next thing we knew, he was running past our house yelling Ow! Ow! Ow! And we never saw him again! (PIG SISTERS laugh and snort at the memory.) LITTLE RED. Wow! That s a great story. But now I d better be going. I have to get to Granny s house and back home before dark. Come on, Roddy. We d better go. Roddy? Who s Roddy?
34 WHAT S A WOLF TO DO? LITTLE RED. He s my best friend. He goes everywhere with me. You see him, don t you? He s right here. PIG SISTERS (looking at one another and rolling their eyes). Oh, sure.
