Creation / God's Character Fun Pack- Preschool Creation Lesson 4 God Made the Sun, Moon and Stars - This All-Knowing, Wonderful God of Ours! Concepts Children Learn: God made the sun, moon and stars on Day 4. There are billions of stars; and God knows each one's name. God knows your name too, and cares enough to know everything about you. Supplies needed: Bible marked with verses Printed story pages Pack of crayons or markers for paragraph 4 Assembled crafts: Sun, Moon and stars bulletin board decorations (optional). Craft Samples: Creation Pocket Chart, Sun, Moon, Stars. Also see Activities and Crafts Prep: Make the Sparkly Foam Sun, Moon and Stars. Make 2-3 extra stars to add during lesson. Place one of each on the bulletin board with letters to form the words "God made the sun, moon and stars!" Keep extra stars in an envelope. Make up Creation Pocket Chart. Cut out the pictures (p.1-7) to use with the chart. See craft page for details. Tip: Try to let all the children have a turn. After each child finds a picture, if they find another picture, say, "Let's let someone else take a turn who hasn't found a picture yet" or something similar. If you have more children than pictures, you can go through the rest of the days, while telling them what to look for (Day 4 - Sun, moon, stars; Day 5 - fish, birds; Day 6 - people, animals), or repeat activity. Key Verse: Verses used as reference: Key Verse: Isaiah 40:26. Verses used in lesson: Genesis 1:16; ; Matthew 10:29-30; Psalm 139:1-4. Verses used as reference: Psalm 13: Romans 11:33-36; Job 37:23. LESSON: God Made the Sun, Moon and Stars - This All-Knowing, Wonderful God of Ours! (1-7) (Place pictures from Creation Day 1-4 on table). We've been learning about all the things that our great God made! Let's begin by playing a game to see if we can remember what we learned so far. (2-4) Look at the pictures on the table. Who can find what God made on Day 1? (Let child pick picture). Very good. Let's put it in the pocket that says Day 1. (Let child put picture of light in Day 1 pocket). Does anyone see what God made on Day 2? (Let children find cloud pictures and put them in Day 2 pocket). Very good. God made the sky, so we will put the clouds in the pocket. Wow! You're doing great. Let's keep going. Who sees what God made on Day 3? (Let children find flowers, plants and put them in Day 3 pocket). Excellent. God made the flowers and plants, land and sea on Day 3. Let's put them all in the pocket. Very good. I'm so glad you are learning about what God made! Let's read our bibles and see what else God made. (Read Genesis 1:16). Wow! (Point to the star decorations or ones in Creation Pocket Chart.) God made and sun and moon and stars; And, he set them all in the sky! Did you ever go outside on a clear night to see all the stars? How many stars do you think there are? (8) Billions! There's so many that, even scientists, with their special equipment, can't see them all. Our bible tells us something amazing about the stars, and about God, who made them all. (Read Isaiah 40:26). God brings out the stars, one by one. (Add more stars to the bulletin board/poster as you say this:) And, He makes sure not even one is missing! He knows how many there are, and he knows

Preschool Creation Lesson 4 Page 2 each one's name! God knows the names of billions and billions of stars! And, God knows each one of your names too! God knows everything! He even knows about things that we know nothing about. God knows how many planets there are. God knows everything that happened before the earth was formed, and everything that will happen in the future. Let's read our Bible to learn what else God knows. (9) (Read Matt. 10:29-30) God sees every little bird that falls to the ground. (Point to bird on ground). And you are much more important to God than a little bird. Did you know that he cares about everything that happens to you and me? (10). How many hairs do you think are on your head? (Let children answer). Yes, thousands - more than 100,000! God knows exactly how many! I wonder what else God knows? (Psalm 139:1-4). Wow! God knows what you think about. He knows what you want for your birthday. He knows why you act silly sometimes. He knows when you are telling the truth, and when you are not. (11) He knows how long your nap was. He knows when you gave your brother a hug, and when you shared your toys. (12) He knows who your friends are. He knows your favorite color (Hold up some crayons or markers), and what you like to eat. God even knows what you will be when you grow up, even before you do! (13) God even knows how you feel. He knows when you're happy or sad, or scared or mad. (Point to pictures as you say them). Isn't that amazing? God cares enough to know everything about each one of us! Transition: Let's have snack, then we will talk some more. CIRCLE TALK TIME: (What does this mean for me?) Did you ever notice that sometimes when your mom or dad are watching you, they are busy doing something else at the same time, like cleaning up the house, or talking to a friend. Or maybe they are paying attention to their Ipod. They don't always give you their full attention. But God doesn't get distracted like that. He watches over us every second of the day. Morning, noon and night we always have his loving attention and care. Sometimes when we know God gives us that much attention, it might make us want to get away from him. We might want to keep secrets from God. But God knows our secrets even before we tell him. We might think God can't see us if its dark, But he can! When we do something wrong, we might want God to go away. We might want to hide from God. (Place hands over face). Would anyone like to share with the class where they like to hide at home? (Let children take turns answering). But God can see us even in our hiding spot! But when we also learn how loving God is, then we welcome all of the loving attention and care that he gives us. It s comforting to know that we are under the constant care of our great, powerful God, who loves us so-o-o-o much! (14) Then we are glad that he doesn't go away! We're glad that he's with us, even though we can't see him. And we're glad that we can talk to him whenever we want; and we're glad to know he will hear our prayers. Transition: Now let's pray and thank God for his constant care and attention. Let's all close our eyes so we can focus on God. I'll say a prayer first. Then, if anyone wants to pray after me, we can take turns praying. (If children are having trouble waiting their turn, you can have them raise their hand and wait to be called on).

Preschool Creation Lesson 4 Page 3 Prayer Sample (This is just a sample prayer. Please allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in prayer). Dear God, You are so awesome! Thank you for making the sun and moon and stars. Thank you for caring enough to know everything about us. And for caring about everything that happens to us. Thank you that we are always under your loving care. In Jesus' name, Amen Transition: Now we have some fun crafts and activities that go with this lesson. Members are granted permission to download, print and make copies of this lesson for one local church or preschool. copyright Virginia Sigle / Bible Kids Fun Zone

Preschool / Toddler Activities Week 4 Creation God Made the Sun, Moon and Stars This All-Knowing, Wonderful God of Ours! Decorating Ideas Make up a Sun, Moon and several Star paper plate crafts. Hang to decorate room. You could also cut stars out of silver mirror board, or metallic foil paper. You could also attach these to bulletin board, placing letters to form the words "God Made the Sun, Moon and Stars - This All-Knowing Wonderful God of Ours!" Warm-up Activities: Edible Playdough Stars Star-shaped cookie cutters Plastic trays (washed) or waxed paper Edible playdough Playdough rollers and other tools How to do Activity: Wash tables. Give each child a tray or sheet of waxed paper to work on. Have children wash their hands. Give each child some edible playdough. See links pages for recipes to make your own. Show children how to use star-shaped cookie cutters to make stars. Let them know its ok to eat this kind of playdough, but not all kinds. Snack Ideas Option 1: Let children eat the edible playdough stars they make in Playdough Activity. Option 2: Lucky charms cereal with stars - You could let children string them to make bracelets or make starry sky pictures for an extra activity. Option 3: Use star-shaped cookie cutter to make cinnamon toast stars or star-shaped cookies. For toast: Spread with margarine. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on it. Toast. Option 4: If you want the kids to be wired up on sugar, use star-shaped cookie cutter to make star biscuits (from refrigerated Pillsbury dough or make your own). Action Rhyme: God is so Great! This is a rhyme with hand motions. Say the words (in left column) and do actions (in the corresponding right column) with the children. Repeat if children s interest is high. God made the brilliant sun, moon and stars! Flick fingers like flickering stars. I'll wave to that little one, way off afar! Sometimes I wonder how God made them all? When I see all he made, I feel so small. God is so great -- so powerful too! Yet he cares so much about me and you! He knows how many hairs are on our heads. He knows where we go and what we said. Each one he made, he surely loves, With the perfect love that comes from above. He sees the bird falls from the tree. He hears each prayer we pray on our knees. Wave as you look up. Hold arms out to sides, wrists flexed, hands facing up. Wave hand across in front of you in an arc. Hold hands up in praise, make a muscle. Point to yourself, then someone else. Point to your head. Walk in place, point to mouth. Point to others. Point up. Make a bird beak with your hand. Put hands together.

Creation / God's Character Fun Pack- Week 4 Creation Activities, Page 2 Actiion Rhyme Cont d: He sees each and every tear that falls. Point to under eye with finger, and bring down face. He hears our whispers and our calls. Cup hands around mouth. He loves to help us and keep us close. Hug yourself. In all this caring, great love he shows! Make a heart by placing thumbs and index fingers together; bring down index fingers to make the point in the heart. He sees each and every tear that falls. Point to under eye with finger, and bring down face. Supplies: Giant sun, moon pattern. Giant star pattern. Sun, Moon, Stars Game Prep: Cut giant sun, moon and stars out of orange, yellow and blue construction paper, respectively. Or you can use a variety of colors for the stars. Tape sun, moon and star shapes about 6" from each other on the floor in any design. Star bracelets with Lucky Charms Cereal Lucky Stars cereal Age 3+ only, as yarn could be a choking Yarn or Loopy cord hazard for young children. Prep: Cut yarn or Masking tape cord into 10" pieces. Place large piece of Scissors (adults only, keep out of reach of masking tape, smashed into a wad, on one children). end of yarn to prevent cereal from falling off. Activity: Let children string cereal onto yarn or cord. When they finish, cut tape off for children. Tie to child s wrist. Toddler Starry Sky Picture Lucky Stars cereal Toddler version: Let younger children "glue" Navy blue small paper plates or waxed paper the cereal onto a small navy blue paper plate with marshmallow cream to make a starry sky picture.

Creation / God's Character Fun Pack- Week - Preschool and Toddler Crafts Safety Tips: Keep scissors out of reach of children. Keep all glue caps, marker caps and other small items out of reach of children age 3 or under, as they are a choking hazard. Use nontoxic washable markers only. Watch young children when they are using crayons, to be sure they don't put them in their mouths. Have an emergency plan in place in case of injury, ie. personnel trained in First Aid procedures. Craft Page Supplies: Craft Instructions: Craft pages of Pocket Chart pictures (5), and 2 pages of words Elmer's foam board (foam core board) 20" X 30" (I purchased at WalMart, call to check your store). Transparent plastic CD sleeves or envelopes, cut in half (Office Depot had Memorex brand for about $5.00). Double sticky tape White school glue Creation Pocket Chart Craft (All ages). Note: Print 1 color copy of each page for teachers sample to be used with lesson, or you can color the bw pages yourself to save on color ink. If you don't have a lot of craft time in class, you may want to stretch this craft out for the children to make for lessons 4-7 (or even all of the lessons). You could use Day 1 - Day 4 pictures for Week 4, then use the other pictures each week as you teach about them. I suggest just using this craft as a teaching aide. Then print and make copies of the bw pictures for children to glue into their own Creation Sticker Book as a take home craft to do with parents. (See below). Saving Tip: If you want to save on supplies, you could reduce the size of the pictures when making copies, use a smaller poster board and use envelopes. Instead of the plastic CD sleeves, cut envelopes in half (pictures would just stick out of the top). I purchased Memorex CD/ DVD Keepers for about $5.00, 50-pack, at Office Depot. Prep: Lay out the pictures and words on foam board, so you can see where you will need to glue/tape everything. Use photo as your model, or create a design of you own. You may want a horizontal board. Use double sticky tape to attach plastic CD sleeves, being sure to secure top corners especially. Glue on words, centering Day 1, 2, 3...above pockets. Cut out pictures. Color first if using black and white pictures. Craft Page Supplies: Craft Instructions: Craft pages (above), word blocks are optional Plain white sheets of copy paper (2 per child) Crayons, markers Scissors, adult only Stapler, staples Glue sticks regular (and restickable, if desired) Envelopes Creation Sticker Book - (All Ages) Prep: Print and make copies of craft pages. Note: Reduce size 50% to save on paper and copy cost. Print one copy, then reduce the size on your copier. Then use two pictures at 50% side by side to make your 8-1/2 X 11 copy. You can use word blocks for the Days, or just write the Days, one on each page of the booklet. Cut pictures out, on dashed line. Place each set of pictures in an envelope. Make up Blank Booklets: Fold two sheets of copy paper in half crosswise and staple. Craft: Give one booklet and one set of pictures to each child. Children color pictures. Help children use regular glue to glue on the words Day 1, 2,... one on the top of each page. Finish that part of the craft and put away regular glue sticks so children don't get confused. Help children place restickable glue (to make stickers) on the backs of the pictures. Allow to dry before using. Let children use the envelopes to take home their pictures. Concepts: Help children place the pictures in the booklet, talking to them about the concepts of the lessons. Note: I think its important not to focus too much on having them match the pictures to the right day. The more important focus is just learning about how great God is, and what he made.

Creation / God's Character Fun Pack- Week 4 - Preschool and Toddler Crafts, Page 2 Craft Page Supplies: Craft Instructions: Teacher s Craft: Supplies: Try Amazon.com or Discount School Supply.com Sun/Moon Craft pattern Star craft pattern Glitter foam sheets or glitter construction paper Round 6" foam shapes (Yellow, Orange) Eye stickers or googly sticky-back eyes (only in age 3+ classes) Scissors (for adults only) Foam glue Non-toxic washable markers Hole punch Yarn or string Kids Craft: Copy paper in colors Non-toxic Glow-inthe-dark markers Hole punch Yarn or string for glitter construction paper, and CreateForLess.com or Amazon.com for glitter foam sheets. Amazon.com has the 9" X 12" size. These are the best prices I could find, excluding shipping. (Bible Kids Fun Zone receives no compensation for these suggestions). Glitter construction paper is less expensive than Glitter foam sheets. Alternatively, you could place glue on shapes, then pour glitter over, shaking off excess. (Use tray beneath), or use Glow-in-the-Dark markers to color white shapes. Sparkly Sun/Moon/Stars - (Using Glitter Foam or Construction Paper) Toddler Version: For toddlers, do not use foam sheets, foam sticker eyes or googly eyes. Just draw eyes on, as these could be choking hazards. And use construction paper instead of foam sheets. Prep: Print craft pages onto card stock or regular copy paper, printing two of the sun/moon page. Use one, as is, for the outer sun shape. Cut out just the circle for the (full) moon pattern and middle of the sun (second layer). Lay patterns on glitter foam sheets or glitter construction paper, using yellow for the moon, and yellow or orange for the sun. Cut out. Punch a hole in the top of each shape. Craft: Help children draw faces on shapes. Children glue one circle on sun shape to make the sun. Glow-in-the-Dark Sun/Moon/Stars - Prep: Print and make copies onto card stock. Print extra pictures to use for moon. Cut out middle circle of sun for moon. Cut out all shapes. Punch a hole in the top of each shape. Craft: Children color pictures with non-toxic glow-in-the-dark markers. Help children insert yarn. Tie yarn and hang. Concepts: Repeat concepts of the lesson while helping children make their crafts. Craft Page Supplies: Craft Instructions: Navy blue paper plates Foam glue or white school glue Black permanent marker Washable, non-toxic markers One of the following: Foam suns and stars Sun, moon, stars stickers Glitter construction paper Neon colored paper Sun, Moon, Stars Plate Craft - Ages 3+. See Toddler Version below. Prep: Cut Sun, Moon and stars out of foam sheets or glitter construction paper if not using stickers. Foam or Construction Paper Shapes Craft - Prep: Teacher writes, "God made the Sun, Moon and Stars! This Wonderful God of ours!" or something similar, along the rim of the paper plates using black permanent marker. Craft: Using foam glue for foam, or school glue for construction paper, children glue sun, and stars on the blue paper plate. Pull apart foam suns for a (full) moon. (You can draw a face on the back sun shape to make another sun). Toddler Version - Prep: Teacher writes, "God made the Sun, Moon and Stars! This Wonderful God of ours!" or something similar, along the rim of the paper plates using black permanent marker. Craft: Children place Sun, Moon and star stickers onto navy blue paper plate. The least expensive paper plates I found was on Ziggos.com - 24 ct for $1.60. Bible Kids Fun Zone receives no compensation for links.

Creation / God's Character Fun Pack- Week 4 - Preschool and Toddler Crafts, Page 3 Craft Page Supplies: Craft Instructions: Large paper bowls Small paper bowls Large paper plates Permanent black marker Highlighter markers or paint supplies Hole punch String or yarn Paint supplies: Children's paint smocks Large paint brushes Water containers Paper towels Washable Kids' paint or non-toxic glow-in-thedark paint Newspapers if not using washable paint Sun, Moon, Stars Bowl Craft - Tip: Each child can make all three, or just one or two, depending on time and supplies. Prep: Work with bowls top down on a table for all crafts. Stars - Draw star shapes on bottom of small bowls, extending "arms" down onto sides of bowl. (See photo). Draw face with permanent marker, or let children do that at craft time. Cut out star shapes. Moon - Draw face on bottom of large bowls, or let children do that at craft time. Cut off rim of large bowls. Sun - Draw face on bottom of small bowls. When cutting off rim of bowl, don't cut all of it off. Cut into rim to make tabs: Cut four 1" wide tabs spaced evenly (or close to it) around perimeter of bowl. (You will insert these into slits on large paper plate to attach inverted bowl to paper plate. Draw and cut sun shape out of paper plate, face up, so that sides curve upward. Match each bowl tabs to make slits on a matching plate. Keep attached to pass out to children. They can take them apart to paint them. Craft: Set out paint, brushes, and containers of water on tables. Cover tables with newspaper if not using washable paint. Use regular or glowin-the-dark paint to paint objects. Optional: Punch hole in tops of each object. Loop string through and tie to hang. copyright Virginia Sigle / Bible Kids Fun Zone 2009.
