1 Cinco de Mayo Theme for Preschool The Preschool Cubby This holiday represents the date on which Mexico was victorious over the French army at the Battle of Puebla (which was on May 5, 1862). Cinco de Mayo is a patriotic fiesta to celebrate this event. Graphics for this theme were created by All Things Clipart and Creative Clips Clipart by Krista Wallden Using the Standards Conversion Chart Type in each of your program s equivalent standards next to my standard. Save to your computer. Refer to this chart each time you use a theme from Preschool Cubby Using the Weekly and Daily Planning Forms In the weekly planning form, ALL of the boxes are editable! Simply print as they are OR move activities to the days you want them or replace activities with your own! You ll find my standards listed under each activity. This is where you will enter YOUR program s standards (that you added to the Conversion Chart) 1. Refer to the conversion chart you completed and look up my Standard Letter/Number. 2. Replace that letter and number with YOUR program s equivalent that you typed into the Conversion Chart. 3. Print! The Weekly AND Daily Planning forms are both 100% editable so you can move the activities to the days you want to do them or even replace them with your own activities! (If you do that-be sure to change them on the daily planning forms as well AND replace the standards in that box with the correct standards for the activity you have replaced mine with!) NOTE: The blue areas will NOT print blue, don t worry! Those areas are the editable areas. They will print with a white background when you print! 1

The children dip pieces of newspaper into the flour-water mix and then use 2 fingers to squeeze the excess off the paper strip. Then place the paper strip on the balloon. Do this until 2 or 3 layers have been added to the balloon. Let dry (3 days or longer, depending on how wet it is!). When dry, pop the balloon and remove. Variation: Use dancing scarves or materials you already have in your classroom. 3,4,10,12,33 Obstacle Course Kickball - This is a traditional kickball game in some areas in Mexico. The children try to kick the ball through a course you have set up. Some ideas are to kick the ball under a chair, into a box, around a bucket, etc. Provide this for many days this week to encourage their core motor, gross motor and locomotor skills. 3,4,6-12,20 Cinco de Mayo by Mary Dodson Wade 1,6,38-40,44 Preschool Cubby 3

The children take turns hitting it once or twice with a bat to open it. I have avoided using blindfolds as traditionally used as most preschoolers are practicing their eye-hand/arm coordination and letting them see what they re aiming at is good practice! 6-8,9,10 Yarn Painting - The Hiuchol Indians created beautiful art from yarn.
