**These are suggestions if you have other ideas, please be empowered to do that! : There is no master list this year, as we gave more options for each day, and will leave it to you to make your list based up on the choices that work best for YOUR church! Elementary Crafts Overview Station Time: 20 minutes Below is a quick guide to the suggested craft for each day. Note these are suggestions feel free to use your imagination/creativity! We were very budget conscious when choosing these crafts. You can find many craft supplies (i.e. foam sheets/shapes, decorations, craft sticks, wiggle eyes, etc.) at or Hobby Lobby. NOTE TO CRAFT STATION LEADERS: Please attend opening and closing, as it will help you immensely in being able to tie in the daily theme/scripture/point to what you are doing. As the children arrive to craft, you may want to welcome them, ask them what they have done so far, and reiterate the story, scripture or point of that day. Then explain how the craft ties in. PUT OUT YOUR SUPPLIES LIST and ask congregation members to donate! Give them a deadline, so that if you need to order things that have not been donated, you have time Day 1 Kindness Good Samaritan Day 2 Faith David and Goliath Day 3 - Love Jesus Day 4 - Joy Isaac s Birth Day 5 Hope House on the Rock Find supplies at: Wal-Mart orientaltrading.com Michaels Hobby Lobby Ask for donations!

Elementary Crafts Day 1 Building Block: Kindness Option1: Kindness Lego Nametags *Can be used for as their nametags for the week needed: legos, metal or plastic clips, (super glue clips to lego pieces ahead of time) super glue, alphabet letter stickers. Directions on photos to the right. Option 2: Lego Friendship Bracelets Flat LEGO bricks Drill and 3/32 drill bit Embroidery thread (three colors per brick) Directions 1. Using a drill and the 3/32 drill bit, drill 2 holes in each LEGO brick.tip: Stack a few LEGO bricks on top of each other and drill through a few at once. 2. Cut embroidery thread in a few different colors to one length. I used 4 strands of thread in 3 different colors. Put all of the colors together and fold them in half. Thread the loop through one of the holes. Pull the loose strands through the loop you have formed once pulling part of the thread through the hole. Pull the thread tight. 3. Separate the three colors and braid them until about 1.5 inches of thread remains. Tie a knot at the base of the braid. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other side of the LEGO brick. Option 3 on next page

Elementary Crafts Day 1 (continued) Building Block: Kindness Option 3: Box of Deeds 1 small jewelry box per child (economical tissue boxes, small food pkg boxes, etc), or a small wood box from a craft store A combination of markers, crayons, colored pencils, puffy paint Decorative items like...plastic jewels, legos, stickers, etc 1 piece of paper/colored paper per child Steps 1. Give each child a small paper jewelry box. Instruct kids to write Good Deeds on the lid with puffy paint, marker, etc 2. Have kids decorate their boxes with markers, crayons, decorative items, etc 3. Direct kids to cut small strips from their paper and write one simple specific way to show love and kindness on each strip. Here are some examples Give someone a hug Do a chore for a family member Give a parent or friend a flower. Make a card for someone Tell a friend what you like about them Bring the box home and use it throughout the year to foster random acts of kindness Jot down your notes and thoughts:

Option 1: Bible Holder ~Things you will need for this project- Empty cereal box (1 for every 2 children) Construction paper in a variety of colors Stickers, markers, crayons, legos, etc Elementary Crafts Day 2 Building Block: Faith Before children arrive, cut cereal boxes in half horizontally to create book holders. Have a variety of sizes available. Steps 1. Help children trace the sides of the cereal boxes onto the construction paper. 2. Cut out the construction paper. Decorate the paper by drawing pictures and glue it to the sides of the box. 3. Decorate the boxes with stickers, markers, etc 4. Encourage kids to take the Bible holders home and keep their Bible, books, etc stored in the holder. It can remind them of the theme of the day and the week of VBS Option 2: Room Signs This a craft that could be used for any of the days this week. It is very simple. Things you will need for this project- Construction paper in a variety of colors Stickers, markers, crayons, legos, glitter, etc For this project simply cut out a piece of paper in a creative way. On the paper write the phrase Keep the Faith or Kingdom Builders or something summarizing the theme of the day. Options Shadow the letters Write the letters in a creative way legos to the sign Decorate the sign creatively Extra ideas Signs can be reinforced for strength by gluing a piece of brown paper bag or cardboard to the back. Glue yarn loops to the back as a hanger. Jot down your thoughts and ideas:

Elementary Crafts Day 3 Building Block: Love Option 1: Woven Cross Paper plate per child Variety of yarn and/or craft knife/box cutter Markers/pens Scotch tape Draw cross shape on paper plate. Cut four slits in plate on vertical edges. Leave at least 1/4 between end of cut and the crossbar. Then make four slits on horizontal crossbar, leaving at least 1/4 between end of cut and vertical bar. Then, cut a 30 length of yarn and wrap through, up, and down slits as shown. For crossbar students can choose whether to use same or different color or yarn. While wrapping through the slits, also weave through some of the up and down yarns. Tape ends to back of plate. Option 2: Cross/Stick Craft sticks (up to 4 per child) Something for spacers (legos) Markers/pens Use craft sticks to make a 3D cross. Stack sticks on top of one another up to 4 times. glue small pieces of something for spacer (legos?). Write the words Jesus (vertical) Loves (horizontal) on the sticks you use on the top layer. Kids could use markers to color the sticks. Encourage creativity. Option 3: Build hearts of Legos

Elementary Crafts Day 4 Building Block: Joy Option 1: Lego picture frame Take pics during first 2 or 3 days of VBS. Pictures need to be printed by Day 4 morning Craft Sticks for picture frame Legos to decorate frames Legos Pieces of yarn to use as wall hanger (or other ideas for wall hangers) Cardboard or paper bags for backing Individual pictures Stapler/staples You probably want to have square frames made of craft sticks that are the right size for the individual pictures, pre-made. Glue the legos to the picture frames. Attach pictures to backing then attach to the back of the craft stick frames. You could use staples if possible. Kids can create vertical and horizontal creations out of legos to fit the frames. Glue the legos to the frames. NOTE: SO MANY VARIATIONS TO THIS! Have fun, be creative. If there aren t enough legos for each child to fill the frame with, just use a few and have them decorate with like colors around them. Also, maybe Write on the TOP KINGDOM BUILDERS.or I am a Kingdom Builder. Option 2: Praise Shaker Corrugated cardboard Dried beans (possibly substitute small legos if there are extra) Liquid tempera paints in various colors One tennis ball canister or Pringles chip container with lid per child One tree leaf per child White construction paper Paintbrushes Cut construction paper to fit around each canister. Cut cardboard into squares larger than each leaf one for each child. Glue smooth side of each lear onto cardboard swuare and allow glue to dry. Cover work area with newspaper. Pour paint into shallow containers. Kids will Use paintbrush to spread a thin coat of paint onto leaf. Press painted side of leaf onto construction paper. Carefully lift off leaf Repeat printing process several times to make a design. Let dry Place several beans (legos) inside canister and glue on plastic lid decorated paper onto canister.

Elementary Crafts Day 4 Building Block: Hope Option 1: Jesus, My Rock Use template of Jesus, My Rock to make 1 copy per child Light cardboard Markers/crayons/etc Tape Rocks Color the cross. Glue it to light cardboard. Cut on the bold lines and fold on the broken lines. Change the cross into a house by folding along dotted lines Fill the house with rocks as a reminder that Jesus is the rock who we should build our lives/homes on (An idea is to take the kids on a short hike to collect rocks maybe have a bunch of right sized rocks in a certain area so they can just go outside and pick through the ones they want) Option 3: Paperweight Legos Permanent markers Rocks (large/heavy enough to be a paperweight) Use permanent marker to write the following on the rock The wise man builds his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24 Children can print their name and the date on the bottom of the rock. Go on a nature walk. Look for the perfect rock to make this gift for mom, dad, grandpa or grandma. (Consider having rocks already picked out that will work for this project. Place them on the ground where you are going to take your walk. Or you can just have them laid out on the table for kids to choose from) Create a small house out of just a few small legos. Glue the house to a flat surface of the rock. Option 2: Lego House Simply create a House on the Rock using legos

Elementary Crafts Extra options to go be used on ANY day Puzzle Picture that goes with the theme of the day per child (they could draw one) (if they draw then you need paper and crayons/markers/etc ) Light cardboard Rubber cement Contact paper if desired Pencil Ziploc bags Trim the cardboard so it is the same size as the picture. Spread the back of the picture with rubber cement, and glue to cardboard. Dry. Turn the cardboard over and use a pencil to draw curving lines from one edge of the cardboard to the other. Draw more curving shapes within the larger ones. Don t make the areas too small, or cutting them out will be difficult. When you have divided the area into interesting shapes, cut along the lines to create the puzzle pieces. Keep the pieces in a Ziploc bag Balloon People (David/Goliath?) Balloons Felt tip marking pens (permanent inks may break the balloon) Posterboard/tagboard Foot Pattern Markers/crayons/etc Yarn, legos, etc for decorations Blow up the balloon, and knot the end. Draw the pattern to create feet with shoes. If you want bare feet, draw toes. Cut the foot section from the posterboard. Cut slits as shown Decorate the feet with markers/crayons as you desire. Insert the knotted end of the balloon into the feet, so the balloon person will stand up. Decorate the balloon with markers to create a face. You can use yarn, paper, legos, etc. to add special features to the face.

Elementary Crafts Extra options to go be used on ANY day Construction paper art (Jesus and cross?) Construction paper and/or pictures about theme of the day Tape /Rubber cement Find 2 pictures or colored pieces of construction paper. Trim them so they are the same size. Fold one picture in half horizontally. Starting at the fold, draw vertical lines about one inch apart, ending about an inch from the edge of the paper. Cut along the lines and open the picture. Flat On the second picture, draw horizontal lined about an inch apart. Cut one strip at a time from the second picture. Weave each strip into the first picture, which now serves as a paper loom. Cut and weave one strip at a time, going over then under each strip of paper. Make sure each strip is facing the same direction. Tape the edges in place as you go. When finished you will have 2 pictures blended together. Glue the woven picture onto a large piece of colored construction paper if you wish Playdough (use each day as filler, OR for Day 5 house) Ingredients 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup salt 1 Tablespoon powdered alum 2 cups water 2 tablespoons salad oil Food coloring 1. in a large bowl, mix flour, salt and alum together. Set aside 2. In a medium saucepan, bring the water and oil to a boil. Remove from heat and pour over flour mixture. 3. Stir until well mixed. Knead the dough 4. Color the dough by adding a few drops of food coloring. 5. Store in a covered container You may want to make some ahead of time. Could divide it up using Ziploc bags. Each could color their own. They can create with it at the end of craft time. Maybe you use is to fill in on a day that there is a short craft.
