1 Introduction ArtPrize is a one of a kind event. Our trademarks are one of a kind too. They symbolize the distinctiveness of this international art competition and help us present a consistent face to the world. The following is a guide that outlines the usage requirements and specific permissions needed to use ArtPrize trademarks in your communications. When using the property of another person or organization the law requires that you have their permission. This includes intellectual property such as registered and unregistered trademarks. ArtPrize is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The trademarks shown here and in the Style Guide are the intellectual property of ArtPrize and are critical to effectively communicate the identity of ArtPrize around the world. You must have specific written permission to use any of the following: Registered Trademarks: The term ArtPrize, Swiggle Logo and Stylized Word Mark ArtPrize The term ArtPrize is a registered trademark. The mark consists of standard characters without claim to any particular font, style, size or color. (USPTO Registration #: 3,759,223) Swiggle Logo (USPTO Registration #: 3,792,192) Stylized Word Mark The word ARTPRIZE in uppercase (USPTO Registration #: 3,847,024) *If specific written permission is granted, the Swiggle Logo and Stylized Word Mark must always be used in a combined lock-up as specified in our style guide. Unregistered Trademarks: 2012 Badges, Seals and Neighborhood Logos See the Trademark Use Rules to see if you are permitted to use these marks without additional written permission.

2 Use Rules You Must Have Permission to Use our Marks. You can request permission by contacting us at However, there are certain situations in which participation in the ArtPrize event will automatically give you a limited right to use specific marks as set forth below: Users: ArtPrize, individuals and media who have been granted use for promoting ArtPrize These marks should never be used without expressed permission from ArtPrize officials. Users: Official 2012 ArtPrize Sponsors and Merchants Users: 2012 ArtPrize Artists, Venues, Registration Locations, Showcase Venues and Exhibition Centers ArtPrize Artists who have a signed Hosting Agreement with a venue secured through artprize.org for the current year s contest. ArtPrize Venues that have a signed Hosting Agreement with at least one artist secured through artprize.org for the current year s contest. ArtPrize Registration Locations for the current year s contest. ArtPrize Showcase Venues for the current year s contest. ArtPrize Exhibition Centers for the current year s contest. Users: 2012 ArtPrize Artists, Venues, Sponsors, Merchants and Registration Locations

3 Use Rules Users: 2012 ArtPrize Artists, Venues, Merchants and Registration Locations To use the logo of the neighborhood in which your entry, venue, business, or registration site is located. Official ArtPrize Promoters/ Tour Guides/ Event Services. If you or your organization are promoting an event, tour or other service that involves a group attending the ArtPrize event, please contact tours@artprize.org for information on bus parking, group voter registration, discounts on maps/guidebooks and graphics for your promotional materials. Media. For media promoting the ArtPrize event, please contact ArtPrize Public Relations at: pr@artprize.org for marks and permissions. You can also download the ArtPrize media kit here: Terms. If you are an authorized user of our mark(s) and/or fall into one of these user types, you must comply with the specific usage and style requirements as shown in our Style Guide. If you are not an authorized user of our mark(s) and/or do not fall into one of these user types, you may not use our mark(s). Moreover, for Artists, Venues, Sponsors, Registration Locations and Merchants, your right to use the specified marks(s) ends January 1, 2013, unless you clearly list the year of your participation (e.g., you may continue to use ArtPrize Sponsor 2012, but not the stylized ArtPrize after the year 2012, unless you have re-signed to participate in the next year s contest). Your right to use our marks is solely for promoting your participation in, your support of, and your involvement in the ArtPrize event. Therefore, you may not put any ArtPrize mark on products that you want to sell for your own benefit or to charge an admission fee or to require a cover charge. You may place any permitted mark on your website or signature only if the mark links to our website, and the logo is removed one month after your participation in the ArtPrize event ends. ArtPrize may unconditionally revoke the above rights, including your right to use any of its marks at any time and without any prior notice. Grounds for this revocation include failing to comply with the rules here or in our Style Guide. Follow the Style Guide If you are an authorized user of one of the ArtPrize mark(s) you must present them in accordance with the Style Guide. If you do not follow the usage rules, ArtPrize will instruct that you discontinue using its marks, even if you otherwise have permission to do so.

4 Use Rules Notice Symbols All artwork provided for permitted use will already contain the necessary notice symbols. These symbols must not be removed. Our registered trademarks should be followed by the symbol to show that they are federally registered trademarks. *The term ArtPrize is a registered trademark. (USPTO Reg. #: 3,759,223) The notice symbol must be used on the first use of ArtPrize in the text of each document or promotional material. Attribution When you use our marks, you should display the following in a discrete but readable manner in the credit section of any document, advertisement, or on the back page of a written or digital promotional material: [Trademark/Registered Trademark] is a trademark of ArtPrize Grand Rapids in the United States. ArtPrize Trademarks Style Guide Digital media for each of our logo image files are available upon request. Registered Trademarks: The term ArtPrize, Swiggle Logo and Stylized Word Mark ArtPrize The term ArtPrize is a registered trademark. The mark consists of standard characters without claim to any particular font, style, size or color. (USPTO Registration #: 3,759,223) Swiggle Logo (USPTO Registration #: 3,792,192) with Stylized Word Mark - The word ARTPRIZE in uppercase (USPTO Registration #: 3,847,024) Use of the swiggle logo MUST include the stylized word mark beneath it. The term ArtPrize for use in copy: Correct use of the mark is a single word spelled with a capital A and capital P Correct: ArtPrize Incorrect: Art Prize, Artprize The notice symbol must be used on the first use of ArtPrize in the text of each document or promotional material. Use of the term ArtPrize as a descriptor is strictly prohibited unless specific permissions are granted. Correct: I m leading a tour of ArtPrize Incorrect: I m leading an ArtPrize tour

5 Style Guide Colors: Use this color Accuracy in color usage is critical for brand recognition and identity. There is only one official ArtPrize color (PMS 433 U Black), and it is shown on the left. No other colors may be used with our marks. PMS 433 U Uncoated Pantone 433 U Coated Pantone 433 C CMYK: C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 RGB: R=0 G=0 B=0 HTML #0A0C11 Type: Gotham AaBbCc ArtPrize Gotham Book AaBbCc ArtPrize Gotham Medium AaBbCc ArtPrize Gotham Bold Our font is Gotham Book, Gotham Medium or Gotham Bold, as shown below. ArtPrize prefers that you use Gotham or Helvetica if you are designing promotional materials and not using one of your authorized marks. You may not use italics. Blank Space Around the Logos: Print and Web Blank space must be placed around our logos. The required space is ½ in print and 36px in web or electronic media on all sides of the logo. This space is required to ensure optimum recognition. Other than notice symbols, no other elements, text, graphics, abbreviations or designs may be used whatsoever in this blank zone. ½ = 36px ½ = 36px

6 Style Guide DO: Please use our marks as described in this guide. Always use our marks distinctively. Always use our marks consistently (i.e., don t add a hyphen, space, abbreviation, etc.). Always reproduce the marks from a highresolution digital file or artwork provided by ArtPrize officials. DON T: Please! Do not modify or alter our marks, including logos and any design elements, in any way. Never add to our marks. Never change the color of our marks. Never rotate our marks. Never add text to our marks. Never use other graphics, designs, or elements with our marks. Never use a background that detracts from our marks. Never violate the white space around our marks. Never use our marks in a way that will harm our reputation, the reputation of our participants, or the reputation of our marks. Never use our marks past the period of permitted use.
