1 PROJET 1200 QUICKSTART GUIDE Before you get started you will need: Lint-free paper towels A pair of nitrile gloves Saftety glasses OPENING YOUR PROJET 1200 NOTE: Make sure you save all of your packaging for your Projet If you need to return your printer for any reason you will need to have the original packaging to avoid voiding the warranty. 1. Pull the grip handle tabs (A) 2. Remove the grip handle from the box. 3. Lift the outer box off of the Printer 4. Remove the periphals box (A) and the upper foam insert (B) 5. Carefully remove the printer from the lower boxed foam support and place it on a solid, level base where it will be used Selecting the location for your Projet 1200 DO NOT install the printer near direct sunlight. If the material cartridge is exposed to direct sunlight, the resin will begin to cure. There should be a utility power outlet and an active network port nearby. There should be a minimum of 6 /152 mm air space between the back of the printer and any other object. There should be at least 10 /254 mm air space on either side of the printer.

2 PRINTER SETUP 1. Remove the protective film (A) covering the display. 2. Open the peripherals box and remove the USB cable (A), power cord (B), print platform (C), curing bulb (D), power supply (E) and material cartridge (F). NOTE: The resin in the material cartridge is UV sensitive. Avoid direct sunlight. UV light will begin to cure the print resin in the cartridge rendering it useless. 3. Open the print door and remove the plastic insert (A) from the material cartridge support. NOTE: If necessary, lift the print material cartridge clamp lever (C) to gain more clearance. Remove the foam insert (B) from inbetween the material cartridge support and the clamp lever (C).

3 Installing the Curing Bulb CAUTION: Do not touch the curing bulb. Keep the protective sleeve on the bulb until after the bulb has been installed. Exercise caution when installing the bulb. If the printer is rotated to its side or upside down, the glass pane under the material cartridge support assembly may dislodge or become damaged It is strongly recommended that the packing foam is inserted into the material cartridge support and then the cartridge clamp secured with the material cartridge clamp lever. When installing the UV curing bulb, ensure the plastic insert is reinserted in the material cartridge clamp. The plastic insert is designed to protect the glass pane in the material cartridge support. 1. Open the curing door. 2. Hold the Curing Bulb with tissue paper or a paper towel, with notch facing up. 3. Insert end of the bulb down in the hole and bulb base up into socket ensuring it locks into place. Locate your network router or switch 2. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable (not included) into an open port on the back of your router/switch 3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the bottom rear of the Projet (A)

4 PRINTING A MODEL 1. Open and customize a model that you would like to print 2. Click the Print 3D Sample button in the CounterSketch interface or located in the Menu in the 3D Printing section 3. If connected to a network, CounterSketch will show a connection dialog. To use the auto-detected IP, click the Connect button. If multiple Projets are on your network, you may manually enter the IP of the preferred Projet in the IP text box and press Connect. The IP of each Projet is displayed on the LCD screen at the top of the Projet. If Counter- Sketch can not connect to your Projet, please verify that the correct IP is being used. 4. Use the slider to adjust the model, if necessary. Rotating the model on its side and lowering it down will decrease the total print time (by reducing the vertical height of the model) but may increase the number of supports need to print the model and therefore the number of supports that need to be cleaned up after printing. 5. Click Create Supports and the Projet builder will automatically create supports for the model. 6. When supports are created, click the Print button to begin printing your model. A final confirmation will remind you to check that gray material is loaded and the build platform is installed and clean.

5 Installing the Material Cartridge CAUTION: For best results, do not expose the material cartridge to excessive light. Light will begin to cure the material causing it to harden prior to printing. Always wear protective gloves when installing or replacing a material cartridge. 1. Lift the material cartridge clamp lever (A) up to raise the cartridge clamp. 2. Remove the cartridge from foil package, cut en with scissors NOTE: When removing cartridge from foil bag look in bag to ensure there is no resin inside bag. If resin is present do not insert cartridge in the machine. Contact your reseller for a cartridge exchange. 2. Before inserting a new cartridge into machine, be sure to take the alcohol wipe supplied with the new cartridge and completely wipe off the entire cartridge holder as shown. Failing to wipe away any residual material from the cartridge holder can contaminate any future builds and glass surface. 3. Check material cartridge to ensure tab is folded over and facing the front of machine, if not, fold over now NOTE: Before opening FTX Gray hold the cartridge securely and shake firmly but carefully for about 30 seconds to mix the contents. Insert the material cartridge into the material cartridge support and then under the material cartridge clamp. NOTE: The material cartridge will sit in a pocket on top of the glass pane. If a leak/spill occurs do not run the machine. UV curing will harden it on the window glass and will make it very hard to remove. A long cleaning swab and isopropyl alcohol will help clean up any spilled resin. It is very important that the cartridge be seated correctly in the pocket or else a leak can be created in the cartridge which may damage the system. To remove this new Glass Frame Assembly from the Cartridge Support insert finger in hole of support and pull the glass frame assembly out. 5. Rotate the material cartridge clamp lever (B) down to lower the cartridge clamp(a). NOTE: Ensure the clamp is locked. If the clamp requires a lot of pressure to lock, check that the cartridge is seated properly in the pocket.

6 Installing The Print Plaform 1. Rotate the print platform clamp lever upward. 2. Carefully press the bulb base into the socket and ensure the connection is secure. 3. Insert the print platform under the clamp lever until it is seated (A) 4. Rotate the print platform clamp lever down to lock the print platform (B). NOTES: For FTX Gray, while cartridge is in use, regularly check to see if the material has separated. If the color of the parts starts to change or the material begins to separate, put on nitrile gloves, lift the cartridge clamp and gently lift and slide the cartridge out to rest on the ledge of the cartridge support. While holding the cartridge tab with one hand, gently stir the material with a gloved finger, be careful not to scratch or dent the cartridge film or spill material onto the sides or top of the cartridge. When material appears homogeneous, carefully remove the stirring finger to avoid dripping material and slide the cartridge back into the cartridge support. Make sure the cartridge sits securely into the pocket and push down the clamp to lock in place. IT is advised to only put a cartridge in the machine and clamp it once. Repeating clamping can break the seal between the film and the cartridge. Use special care when replacing cartridge after stirring procedure to ensure the seal remains intact. When the cartridge is successfully installed, the LCD screen will display the material type contained in the cartridge. This will eliminate the need to select Check Cartridge. CURING INSTRUCTIONS MATERIALS NEEDED: Isopropyl Alchohol (to clean the model) Paper towels (to clean up drips and spills) Razor blade or other fine scraping tool (to remove model from platform) Nitrile gloves or other hand protection (to keep resin off of skin) Small bin (or ultrasonic) (for rinsing off models) Air gun (optional) (for drying model before curing) Small cutters (such as wire cutters) (to remove supports from cured model) File (optional) (for removing supports) Put gloves on 1. Remove the print platform from the Projet (do not remove the model from the platform at this time) 2. Put some isopropyl alcohol in a small container (just enough to submerge the platform) and gently swish the model around in the alcohol (an ultrasonic with alcohol could be used instead) 3. Use air gun to gently blow off excess alcohol (if attempting this step with canned air, make sure to keep air nozzle far back from model too much pressure can break the model) Insert the platform into the curing station in the right half of the Projet

7 4. Close the curing station door and press the button at the top center of the Projet 5. Curing will automatically stop after 10 minutes at which time the platform can be removed 6. Gently use a razor blade or scraping tool to remove the model from the build platform. Clean all cured resin from the platform and clean it thoroughly for future use 7. Use cutters to clip away supports from model. A file can be used to further remove the presence of the supports TIPS Rotating the model flat will reduce print time. The taller the model, the longer the print (complexity of the model has no bearing on print time) Rotating the model flat will usually increase the number of supports that need to be removed When rotating the model flat, we recommend about degrees from straight up so that the ring is grown on a slight angle. Do not expose resin to light for very long. Opening the door to insert/remove build platform is fine, but keep door closed otherwise to avoid partial curing in the cartridge If a print fails the cartridge should be removed and inspected for floating objects or resin that may be cured to the bottom of the cartridge. We recommend. pouring the resin out of the cartridge into a film canister or similar small container. If there is cured resin on the clear plastic base of the cartridge, a small plastic scraper should be used to gently lift the cured resin off the cartridge. The resin can then be carefully poured back into the cartridge. If the bottom of the cartridge becomes torn or otherwise compromised it will leak resin, discard immediately. The resin from that cartridge can be poured into another partialy filled cartriage. The cartridge can be left in printer in between jobs, but leaving it in for extended periods of time (multiple weeks) can result in leaks. It s not common, but if it happens it will most likely result in sending the Projet in for repair. We do not have a good method for storing partially used cartridges. If a cartridge is removed, it must be kept covered to avoid curing. Avoid resin contact with skin. If contact occurs, wash hands thoroughly with soap and avoid getting it in eyes or mouth If a print fails, positioning it slightly differently in the builder will force it to generate different supports which may help print to succeed. NOTE: See the included Projet 1200 manual for additional information on curing and model clean up. Review the MSDS information included in the Projet manual prior to working with any chemicals. HELPFUL TOOLS MICRO SHEAR CUTTER Shears are used for removing the supports from a printed model. SINGLE EDGE RAZOR BLADES Use the razor blade to remove the printed model off the metal build platform. SMALL FILE Use the file to remove any remnants of the clipped supports off a cured model.

8 VINYL GLOVES To keep your hands from coming into contact with Isopropyl Alcohol or ProJet resin, always use vinyl or latex surgical-style gloves. ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL Isopropyl alcohol is used to remove any uncured resin from the model after printing is finished. We recommend only 99 % or higher for best results.
