Kids Art Area 47th Park City Kimball Arts Festival August 12, 13, 14, 2016 Contact: Jocelyn Scudder (413) , Radio Channel 5 Kimball Customer Service Desk: Location: Old Kimball Art Center Back Patio and Parking Lot. Kids Art Area offers a variety of activities for all ages to enjoy. The Kids Art area is open the same hours as the festival, Friday (5 pm 9pm), Saturday (9am - 7pm) and Sunday (9am 6pm). Proceeds from Kids Art Area support the Kimball Art Center s educational programs, which include the A.R.T.S. (Academic Resources for Teachers and Students) program, school tour, Art Talks, and outreach programs such as the Young Artists Academy, EVA (Elementary Visual Art Program), as well as visual art classes & workshop scholarships. All tickets for paid activities must be purchased at the Kids Art Area ticket table. At free art activities, tip jars are out and tips will go directly to support the Kimball Art Center s education programs. Volunteer Positions (descriptions to follow): 1) Clay Creations Booth 3-4 Volunteers 2) Paint it, Wear it Booth 3-4 Volunteers 3) The Artist in You: Photo Booth - 2 Volunteers 4) Rocky Mountain Face Painting Booth 4-10 Volunteers 5) Wall Reveal: Interactive Mural Drawing 3 Volunteer 6) IKOS Toy Building Booth 1 Volunteer 7) Ticket Table sales/scavenger Hunt 1-2 Volunteers Kids Art Activities include: 1. Clay Creations ($3.00) Use stamps and printing techniques on air dry clay to create a pendant for a necklace or keychain. Great for any age, there is no need to wait on your work to be fired. Take it home, let it dry and amaze your friends with beautiful art, jewelry or charms you create. The ticket will look like this image and will be WHITE. Please place it in the provided bin. If the child has a Fast Pass, use a sharpie to mark the Clay Creations project. Do not accept cash, the children must have a ticket from the ticket table. Volunteers will help children create a small pendant by instructing them to roll out the clay, then to stamp and print into the clay. Volunteers will distribute baggies to kids; each kid gets ONE BAG ONLY and each bag has string, 4-6 beads, and a ball of clay. Students can use the beads to decorate their necklace; they then string on the clay pendant they have made

and have a necklace to wear and take home. Students can turn pendant into a key chain if they do not want a necklace. All clay is air dry and doesn t need to be fired. The kids should be instructed to keep their pendant in the baggie during the festival so that it can dry, and they can wear it once they get home. Pieces are fragile. 2. Paint it, Wear it! ($3.00) Kids will get creative in our Paint it, Wear it booth by drawing, stenciling, and doodling on blank drawstring backpacks or snapback hats! One ticket per item. Using fabric paint pens and sharpie markers, kids can personalize their backpacks or hats to go back to school in style. Come join the fun! The ADMIT ONE ticket will be RED. Please place it in the provided bin. If the child has a Fast Pass, use a sharpie to mark the Paint it, Wear it project. Do not accept cash, the children must have a ticket from the ticket table. One ticket per project. If a child wants to make both a hat and a backpack, they must have 2 tickets. Materials: Canvas drawstring backpacks, white/black snapback hats (one size fits all) fabric paint markers, stencils, sharpies, Kimball Art Center Fall Class Catalogue. Set up: Stencils should be scattered on the table so everyone can see what is available. Fabric paint pens and sharpies should be placed in the mason jars provided to create mini stations on all three tables. Keep the backpacks and hats behind the table in boxes to hand out as children approach the table. Please make sure that there are KAC Fall Class Catalogues stuffed inside the backpacks for kids to take home. Project: Collect a RED ticket from student (or mark their fast pass), then instruct the participant to choose a stencil, or multiple stencils if they would like. They will use either sharpies or fabric markers to color in the stencil. Kids are also welcome to free draw onto their item of choosing. The markers may bleed onto the backside of the backpacks, so please make sure there is a Kimball Art Center Fall Class Catalogue stuffed inside backpacks to prevent color bleeding. ONLY ONE ITEM PER CHILD. Clean up: Please collect all stencils and put them in their container. Please collect all sharpies and fabric markers and put them in their containers. Please do not mix the sharpies and the fabric markers try your best to separate these items. We will store markers, stencils, hats and backpacks inside the old KAC overnight. 3. The Artist in You: Photo Booth ($3.00) Dress up as an iconic artist and get your picture taken with friends and family. Whether it be Frida Kahlo or Banksy, kids and adults of all ages have fun playing dress up and posing for photos! Each person with a ticket can design and take home a photo strip to savor the memories of Arts Fest 2016!

The ADMIT ONE ticket will be BLUE. Please place it in the provided bin. If the child has a Fast Pass, use a sharpie to mark the Artist in You: Photo Booth project. Do not accept cash, the children must have a ticket from the ticket table. Materials: Polaroid Snap Instant Digital Cameras, Polaroid Premium Zink Photo Paper (packs of 50), baskets full of artist props, spotlights, paper photo strips, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners. Set up: This project will be broken into 2 stations: the photo booth/costume station and the photo strip design station. Make sure the spotlights are on, and cameras are fully loaded with film. Also make sure the correct artist props/costumes are in their proper baskets. Blank photo strips should be out on the tables, and colored pencils should be scattered on the work tables. Project: Collect a BLUE ticket from participant (or mark their Fast Pass), then instruct the participant to choose an artist to dress up as using the artist props/costumes in the baskets. Once they are dressed, have them stand in front of the curtains, and make sure the spotlights are on. The cameras will be pre-loaded with film. The photos will print after each snapshot (just like a classic Polaroid). VOLUNEERS AND STAFF ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE ALLOWED TO USE THE CAMERAS. When shooting the camera, take 3 photos for each participant/group. 1 ticket = 3 photos (1 photo strip). Once all 3 photos are printed, give them back to the participant. The backside of the photo paper is sticky. They can peel each photo off of the wax paper backing and stick it to the Arts Fest photo strips provided. Colored pencils will be available to design and decorate the photo strips. Clean up: Make sure photo paper, cameras, spotlights, and props are safely stored. Sharpen the colored pencils that have dull tips. Organize the props to make sure they are in their proper artist basket. Make sure cameras are plugged in and charging before you leave! 4. WALL REVEAL: Interactive Mural Drawing ($3.00) Create and collaborate! Join the fun as our creative team and the public work together to build and complete large scale mural on-site at the Park City Kimball Arts Festival! Check in throughout the festival to see the progress and end result on Sunday! The ADMIT ONE ticket will be ORANGE. Please place it in the provided bin. If the child has a Fast Pass, use a sharpie to mark the WALL REVEAL: Interactive Mural Drawing project. Do not accept cash, the children must have a ticket from the ticket table. Materials: Sticky mural paper (stenciled), sharpies, 8 x 16 wooden panel (mural surface). Set up: The 8 x 16 mural will be set up, ready to go. There will be a drawing station (with sharpies), and a mural station (applying the sticky sheets of paper to the wall). Make sure there are pieces of the stenciled paper on the tables ready for people to color on. Project: Collect an ORANGE ticket from participant (or mark their Fast Pass), then instruct the participant to choose 1 piece of stenciled mural paper. Have the participant color in the lines with sharpies. Lots of color is good don t leave any white spots! When the piece of mural paper is completely colored in, they will give it to a volunteer (you). Check the back of the stencil for a number, and you will notice that there is a corresponding number on the wooden panels. Peel off the wax paper from the sticky mural paper, and CAREFULLY place it in the corresponding numbered grid box. ONLY ONE MURAL SECTION PER TICKET/PARTICIPANT.

Clean up: Make sure sharpies are put away in their containers, and broken pieces are thrown away. Sharpies and stenciled mural paper will be stored in the old KAC overnight. For a reduced price, kids will have the option to buy a Fast Pass for all 4 projects: KIDS AREA FAST PASS! Complete all 4 projects (Clay Creations, Paint it Wear it, The Artist in You: Photo Booth, & Wall Reveal Mural Drawing for $10, save $2) Fast Pass will look like this: FREE PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES: Volunteers should mark the specific activity when a child has completed the area and give it back to them. There will be markers at each station for this. If you have a ticket where all 4 areas have been filled, keep the ticket and place it in your bucket. If child wants to keep their ticket and return on Saturday or Sunday to complete their projects, they may, but lost tickets will not be replaced. 5. Face Painting Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Power (FREE)! Face Painting has been sponsored by Rocky Mountain Power and is a free activity! Face Painters should try to limit themselves to 5 minutes per child (yes, even for a full face) with 10 minutes max per child to keep down on the line. Only register for this if you have experience face painting. Snazarro paints, brushes, mirrors, and glitter will be supplied. All paint is non-toxic water based and will wash off with soap and water. There will be books and examples for people in line to look at to get ideas. There are all kinds of requests! If you have never face painted before, or are uncomfortable doing so, we can find another station for you to volunteer. 6. Scavenger Hunt, available at all entry gates (FREE)! Kids will pick up the Scavenger Hunt questions at the Arts Festival entry gates, then walk the street to check out the more than 200 artists to answer the questions. When kids have completed the hunt, they will head to the Kids Art area ticket counter to select a prize from the treasure chest! This is a great activity to get kids engaged in learning about the festival, Park City, and the Kimball Art center. Scavenger hunt questions will be provided at all entry gates of the festival it is a free activity. When kids have

completed their hunt, they will hand the hunt in at the Kids Area ticket counter. If it is complete, kids can choose a prize from the treasure chest. If a few kids from the same family go on the scavenger hunt together, they can each pick one prize. For some of the questions the kids should have different answers, but please make sure it is completely filled out before they can take their prize. You can give hints to the children if needed, but please don t just tell them all the answers. The answers can be found by looking at artist s booths, in the Arts Fest brochure, visiting the Kimball Art Center and walking the festival.
