Trace the dotted letters. D D D D D D Dinosaurs d d d d d d d d Now try making your own. D Dd d
Look carefully at the dinosaurs in each row. There is one dinosaur that doesn t belong there. Put an X through the dinosaur that doesn t match the others in each row.
Each of these dinosaurs swallowed an uppercase letter. Draw a line from each dinosaur to the lower case letter that matches the one it ate. a b c d e f g h i j k l m A B C F G H I J K L M D E
N t O P y r Q R S n o z T U V W X Y Z w s v q u x p
These dinosaurs have decided that they want a new look. They will tell you what color they want to be. All you have to do is make their wish come true and use your crayons to make them that color. I want to be RED. I want to be ORANGE. I want to be YELLOW. I want to be GREEN. I want to be BLUE. I want to be PURPLE.
Practice your writing skills by tracing the names of these dinosaurs! Iguanodon Allosaurus Apatosaurus T-Rex Stegosaurus Triceratops Pterodactyl Velociraptor
IMPORTANT WORDS YOU SHOULD KNOW When you learn about dinosaurs, there are certain words that you should know. They are used a lot and can be a little confusing. Here are some of those words: CARNIVORE or CARNIVOROUS means that the dinosaur ate meat. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is an example of a carnivore. HERBIVORE or HERBIVOROUS means that the dinosaur ate plants. The Apatosaurus is an example of an herbivore. BIPED or BIPEDAL means that the dinosaur walked on two feet. The Velociraptor is an example of a biped. QUADRUPED or QUADRUPEDAL means that the dinosaur walked on four feet. The Triceratops is an example of a quadruped. PALEONTOLOGISTS study the fossils of dinosaurs and prehistoric plants. FOSSILS are the remains of prehistoric plants and animals that are found in the ground or pressed into rocks. Dinosaur skeletons are fossils. EXTINCT means no longer living. All of the dinosaurs are extinct. There are no living dinosaurs left on Earth.
Allosaurus The Allosaurus was a carnivorous dinosaur that walked on two legs. Allosaurus had two small arms and a long heavy tail. The average length of an Allosaurus was about 28 feet, but it is possible that some or them grew to be up to 39 feet!
Apatosaurus The Apatosaurus used to be known as the Brontosaurus. The Apatosaurus was an herbivore and walked on four legs. The average length of an Apatosaurus was about 75 feet and weighed about the same as four elephants! They had very long necks and very long, very strong tails.
Compsognathus The Compsognathus was a small, carnivorous dinosaur that was about the size of a turkey. Compsognathus walked on two legs and had two small arms and a long tail. They grew to be about 3 feet long. For a long time scientists believe that Compsognathus was the smallest dinosaur, but even smaller dinosaurs have been discovered.
Argentinosaurus The Argentinosaurus was an herbivore that walked on four legs. Paleontologists have not discovered many Argentinosaurus fossils, so they don t know a lot about them. Argentinosaurus is estimated to have been 98 to 115 feet long. It is believed that they were the heaviest dinosaur.
Velociraptor The Velociraptor was a small carnivore that walked on two legs. They had two short arms and a long tail. Velociraptors had very sharp claws on their feet as well as their hands. Velociraptors grew to be about 6.8 feet long and weighed about 33 pounds.
Tyrannosaurus Rex Tyrannosaurus Rex was a carnivore that walked on two legs. Tyrannosaurus Rex was one of the largest land carnivores to ever live. The largest complete skeleton found was 42 feet long and 13 feet tall!
Triceratops The Triceratops was an herbivore that walked on four legs. It is easily recognized by the three horns that it has on its head. One horn was on its snout and the other two horns were above its eyes. The horns above its eyes were about 3 feet long! Triceratops was believed to be between 26 feet and 29.5 feet long.
Stegosaurus The Stegosaurus was an herbivore that walked on four legs. Stegosaurus is easily recognized by the armored plates on its back and the spikes on its tail. Stegosaurus was about 30 feet long and 14 feet tall.
These dinosaurs need to line up in alphabetical order and they need your help! First, cut out of the boxes. Next, look at the letter above each dinosaur. Find the dinosaur with the letter A above it. Put that dinosaur first in line. Now look for the next letter of the alphabet, the letter B. Put that dinosaur second in line. Keep going through the alphabet until all of the dinosaurs are in line. Now mix them up and start again! C E B G F A H D

The dinosaurs are hungry and they are looking for their favorite shapes! Cut out the shapes at the bottom of the page and glue them into the correct dinosaur s tummy. I like squares! I like diamonds! I like circles! I like stars! I like triangles! I like rectangles!

Test your memory with this dinosaur matching game. Cut out each of the squares and mix them up. Lay them out in front of you face down. Flip one square over. Now try and find a matching dinosaur by flipping another square over. If you didn t find a match, turn both squares face down and try again. Keep going until you match all the dinosaurs. Try and remember where you saw each dinosaur to help you make matches.

Make your own Triceratops that will stand up on your desk! Here s how: What you need: Crayons/Markers Glue Thin Cardboard (cereal box, manila folder, etc.) Scissors How to do it: 1. Color the triceratops body and legs. 2. Glue the triceratops body and legs onto a piece of thin cardboard like an empty cereal box or a manila folder. Allow to dry. 3. Cut the triceratops body and legs out. Carefully cut along the short lines on the bottom of the triceratops body and top of the legs. 4. Slide one leg into one of the cuts on the body. Slide the other leg into the other cut on the body. 5. Your triceratops should now stand up on its own!

Ankylosaurus was a heavily armored dinosaur. Its body was covered with hard bony plates that helped protect it against predators. Here s how you can make your own ankylosaurus. What you need: Crayons/Markers Scissors Glue Piece of Construction Paper Sunflower Seeds How to do it: 1. Color and cut out the ankylosaurus. 2. Glue your dinosaur onto a piece of construction paper. 3. Glue sunflower seeds all over the body of the ankylosaurus to make it look like armor.

Make your own cool Triceratops fossil mask. Here s how: What you need: Crayons/Markers Scissors Hole Punch Yarn or String How to do it: 1. Color and cut out the mask. Remember to cut out the eye holes. 2. Punch holes on the black dots on either side of the eye holes. 3. Cut two pieces of string or yarn. Tie one piece to each hole that you punched. 4. Hold the mask to your face and tie the strings behind your head. cut out eyes cut out eyes

Make a Tyrannosaurus Rex that will stand up on your desk! Here s how: What you need: Crayons/Markers Scissors How to do it: 1. Color and cut out your tyrannosaurus rex. Remember to cut out the space between the backs of the two dinosaurs. 2. Fold the entire project in half so that the tyrannosaurus rex looks 2 sided and the hands, feet, heads, etc. line up. 3. Locate the dotted lines on each foot. Fold the feet up towards the head. It will look a bit like the dinosaur is standing on skis, but they will balance him so he stands up. 4. Place your dinosaur on your desk. If the feet are folded up too high and he won t stand, just bend them down a bit.

Paleontologists are sometimes looking at very small fossils and they need to use a magnifying glass to see clearly. You can pretend that you are a paleontologist searching for clues about dinosaurs with this magnifying glass. Here s how to make it: WHAT YOU NEED: Thin Piece of Cardboard Piece of Plastic Wrap Glue Scissors Crayons/Markers HOW TO DO IT: 1. Cut the magnifying glass off of this page and glue onto a piece of thin cardboard. Allow to dry. 2. Color and cut out the magnifying glass. Remember to cut out the center circle, too. 3. Cut a square of plastic wrap large enough to cover the hole in the magnifying glass. Glue onto the back side of the magnifying glass. 4. Color and cut out the dinosaur fossil. 5. Ask someone to hide it someplace so that you can use your magnifying glass to find it. CUT OUT THIS CIRCLE.

A Paleontologist studies the remains of prehistoric plants and animals. Sometimes this job means going out and searching for fossils. When Paleontologists search for fossils, they use a brush to carefully uncover them without doing any damage. Because they often work in the hot sun, they keep their head covered and a canteen of water with them. You can make your own Paleontologist equipment. Here s how: What you need: Crayons/Markers Scissors Glue Thin Cardboard Long Strip of Paper Stapler Hole Punch String or Yarn How to do it: 1. Color the canteen and brush on this page and the hat on the next page. 2. Cut out the canteen, brush and hat and glue onto a thin piece of cardboard like an old cereal box or even a manila folder. Allow to dry. 3. Cut the canteen, brush and hat out. 4. Cut along the lines in the head of the brush. 5. Cut a strip of paper long enough to fit around your head and staple in the back. Staple the hat to the front of the strip of paper. 6. Punch a hole through the black dot on the canteen. Run a piece of string through the hole and tie the ends together like a necklace. Pull it over your head so the canteen hangs around your neck. 7. Now you have a hat, canteen and brush. You are ready to go out in search of fossils. 8. Ask someone to hide things in a sandbox for you to try to find with your equipment.
