1 Special Collections The Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme Collection of Books, Manuscripts, Sound Recordings and Videotapes The University of Calgary's Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme was established with the concept that it "is intended to benefit the community of readers and writers in Calgary, Alberta and in Canada and to enhance the activities of the Department of English, particularly in its creative writing endeavours. In order to do this, the Distinguished Writers Programme, through a generous endowment, has established two residences: one for an emerging and promising Canadian writer, and another for a distinguished visiting writer of international stature."
