5 Mark G. Yudof Mark Yudof received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965 and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in While in law school, he served on the law review. After receiving his law degree, he served as a law clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and a Research Associate and Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 1971, he joined the law faculty at The University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor. M1. Yudof was promoted to the rank of full professor in From he served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas School of Law. Mr. Yudof also has been a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Michigan. In 1984 he assumed the position of Dean, serving in that capacity until On june 1, 1994, Mr. Yudof was appointed as Executive Vice President and Provost of The University of Texas at Austin. He currently holds the james A. Elkins Centennial Chair in Law. Mr. Yudof has been appointed President of the University of Minnesota, effective july 1,1997. Provost Yudof is the author or co-author of a number of books, including Gender justice, Educational Policy and the Law (3rd ed.), and When Government Speaks: Politics, Law, and Government Expression in America. He also is the author of more than 40 articles, dealing with such subjects as contract law, constitutional law, school finance, postmodernism, property taxation, education law, and jurisprudence. He was awa1 ded the Most Meritorious Book Award from the American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects in 1983, and he is a past winner of the Teaching Excellence Award from the Student Bar Association at The University of Texas. Provost Yudof also is a member of the American Law Institute and an Honorary Fellow of Queen Mary and Westfield College (University of London), the American Bar Foundation, and the Texas Bar Foundation. He is a past recipient of the Leon Green Award from the Texas Law Review Association (1992) and the jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League (1991 ). Provost Yudof has worked extensively on issues relating to the financing of public education, having served on the Governor's Task Force on Public Education ( ) and the Governor's Select Committee on Education (1988). Among other activities, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools ( ), Chairman of the Austin Cable Commission ( ), Chairman of the National Study Group on Legal and Governmental Studies at the National Institute of Education ( ), and Chairman of the Austin Tax Board of Equalization ( ). Provost Yudof was appointed by the Lt. Governor of Texas to the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board, and serves as Vice Chairman. In addition to his professional activities, Provost Yudof has found time for community service. He has served as a member of the Board of Direclors of the American Institute of Learning, the Freedom to Read Foundation, Congregation Agudas Achim, and the jewish Children's Regional Service, and on the Executive Committee of the Unive1 sity Interscholastic League. He currently serves on the Board of the Austin Diagnostic Medical Center. In 1988 he and his spouse, Judy, received the Humanitarian Award for the Austin Region of the National Conference of Christians and jews, and in 1993 they were the joint recipients of the jewish National Fund Tree of Life Award. judy and Mark have two children of whom they are immensely proud, Seth and Samara Yudof.

18 Graduation Photographs For your convenience, we have made arrangements with professional photographers to take a picture of each student as they cross the stage. This service will enable each student to have a photograph of their graduation. Family members and friends are encouraged to remain in their seats and enjoy the ceremony. However, photographs may be taken from the orchestra pit. Please do not block the ramp or the aisles. The graduates will need to proceed down the ramp and back to their seats in a timely manner. Thank you. Degrees in the Institute of Technology are awarded with two types of honors. Degrees with distinction and high distinction are awarded automatically to students with Grade Point Averages exceeding 3.5 and 3.8, respectively. The cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude degrees are awarded upon application to students who meet certain Grade Point Average requirements and complete special work within the major. Students receiving the summa cum laude degrees have completed a senior thesis. This is not an official University of Minnesota Graduation List
