Benjy Randall, age 9 A thrilling adventure story from start to finish. Jonathan is in a race against time to find Gabriel s clock. If he doesn't his friends and family will die but if he does he risks starting a war between hell and heaven. He is the only half demon half angel in the universe and hell wants to use him. Hobbes End is a village where he would be safe they thought. I loved this book and didn't want it to end. Traviss Chaytors, age 10 This book has it all; a talking cat, a halfangel half-demon and a werewolf. A perfect fantasy and magical world in a perfect story. Gabriel s Clock is an amazing book about a young boy named Jonathan who is attacked by some weird sort of monsters in suits but lucky Jonathan escapes and his Mum takes him to a mysterious village to keep him safe but everything else changes when the monsters attack again! There are lots of funny parts in the book especially Elgar a talking cat, but there is also a sad dark tale behind it all but the characters are all amusing. Hilton Paisley is now one of my favourite authors and could beat J.K.Rowling any day but I hope he publishes more as this book was brilliant. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes to read fantasy or magical stories.

2 Sam Harper, age 9 Gabriel's Clock is the story of Jonathan, a seemingly normal boy with hidden powers which even he isn't aware of. Jonathan is the only half-angel, halfdemon in the universe and the archdemon Belial wants to control him. Jonathan and his mother are forced to leave their home when it is attacked by the Corvidae, three of Belial's faceless demons. Jonathan awakens to find himself in the strange village of Hobbes End. His mother, who is a demon, leaves him there in the care of his grandfather, the fallen angel Gabriel, while she travels to Hell to get help. Jonathan finds that everything in the village is far from normal. There are talking gargoyles and his new friends include the demon Elgar, who is trapped in the form of a talking cat, and Cay, a 'normal' girl whose dad is a werewolf. The Corvidae hunt Jonathan down and, until he becomes aware of his powers, his friends must protect him. Belial wants Jonathan to lead his army of demons and will stop at nothing in his battle to control Heaven and Hell. Can Jonathan master his powers in time to stop him? Gabriel's Clock captivated me from the very first page. I stormed through it and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. This is a truly amazing story and I absolutely loved it. Lucy Minton, age 10 A fantastic piece of writing which had me gripped. Gabriel's Clock is a thrilling adventure, following the path of Jonathan. Unimaginable monsters break into his home and his world is thrown upside down. Can he fulfil his destiny? Or will he create a catastrophe? Only Gabriel's Clock can tell... A fantastic piece of writing, Gabriel's Clock was an amazing read because it had an interesting plot that kept me gripped. It used really descriptive language to show what the characters looked like. My favourite bit was when Jonathan had to try and save his friends because it was very thrilling and I was on the edge of my seat. Evie Scott-Sentance, age 10 This is a book about a boy, Jonathan, whose life is suddenly changed when his house is attacked. He manages to escape with his mother and discovers Hobbes End, a village that keeps people safe. Jonathan needs to be kept safe more than anyone else because he is half angel and half demon the only one of his kind.

3 Demons from hell are after him, wanting to use him as a weapon for their dark purposes. To escape them, Jonathan must find Gabriel s Clock before it s too late. There were parts that were funny too, like the rude cat, Elgar and the gargoyles, who always seem to be arguing with each other. The gargoyles aren t very good guards either, as if they re not arguing, they re asleep! I thoroughly enjoyed this story it was exciting and dramatic. Once I d started it, I couldn t stop! I recommend Gabriel s Clock to everyone it s a great book. Emma Stephenson, age 10 Gabriel's Clock is a magical book that I found gripping from the first chapter. There are many dramatic moments but the book has humerous parts too. My favourite character is Elgar the cat as he made me laugh. Before I read Gabriel's Clock I did not think it would be as good as Harry Potter but it is. Mukunth Kowsik, age 11 I think that Gabriel's Clock was a stunning read; a compulsive page turner that I finished in just two days. Sometimes I was laughing and sometimes I had my heart rapidly beating. The story is about a kid called Jonathan who is just a normal boy with a normal life, until the day the demons come for him. He blacks out and finds himself in an extraordinary village of wonders for people who need protection. Hobbes End, the village, is created by Gabriel, an angel who is Jonathan's blood relative (read the book to find out who he is!). Slowly, Jonathan's life unravels and puzzles fit into proper place. He decides to rescue his parents, but in his way are the powerful demons who want Jonathan as he is half angel half demon and very special. With a Vicar, a talking cat, two Gargoyles and Gabriel, Jonathan is more than determined to get his parents back by finding his way to heaven using Gabriel's Clock. But the demons get him and demand for the clock to be surrendered and time is running out for Jonathan and Gabriel's life...

4 Emily Passmore, age 12 After I got into it, I loved this book and thought it was really, really good!! When I first started this book, I wasn't really sure about it but after a few chapters I was absolutely hooked! I couldn't put it down for ages. The characters are brilliant, especially Elgar who I absolutely love, and it's brilliant for anyone who likes an adventure story!! Robert White, age 10 This book is hilarious and action packed! Expect to see mindblowing devils in bowler hats, talking cats, living gargoyles and a half-demon, half-angel hero. Gabriel s Clock is a very funny book for 8-12 year olds. Once I started, I couldn t put it down! It all starts when three demons in bowler hats attack Jonathan s cottage. In an attempt to save Jonathan, his parents, a demon and an angel, bring down the kitchen ceiling which crushes the entire family as well as the demons. Jonathon wakes up in a strange village called Hobbes End, a safe haven for those in need. The village, hidden in the trees, was built by the fallen archangel Gabriel and is inhabited by humans, a talking cat, a werewolf and two angels! Jonathan is the only half-demon half-angel in the world. The archdemon, Belial, is trying to find Jonathan because he wants to use Jon as a weapon against Hell and Heaven. Jonathan must find a watch (Gabriel s Clock) which will give him a back-door way into Heaven where he will be safe. But if he finds it, Heaven and Hell could start a war which could engulf them all. My favourite character has got to be the talking cat, Elgar who adds funny comments in lots of serious situations. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure stories. I rate Gabriel s Clock, 10 out of 10. Jemima, age 9 On the very first paragraph it s very exciting. The hero, Jonathan, is half angel half demon, and he is also home educated, which I can relate to. There's a talking cat, Friendly gargoyles, demons, werewolves, a dragon, a vicar with a pistol and a rapier, and as the cat would say... What s not to like? There are some gruesome bits, so not for the very sensitive. My

5 favourite character is Elgar (The talking cat) who is actually a demon, but he s nice. There are no boring bits, it s a really good book. Lewis Duckworth, age 12 Gabriel s Clock, by Hilton Pashley, is a fantastic and sometimes funny novel. If you like fantasy and action books this is one for you. With dragons, angels, demons and even talking cats and gargoyles, taking you into the realms of the unknown. At first I thought the book was going to be a bit boring because I wasn t taken in by the illustrations, but when I actually started to read it. I thought to myself how could I ever doubt this book, how could I ever have been so wrong. This book got better every time I flipped the page, when I thought it was at its best it got better. I would recommend this book to children, specifically boys, aged 10 and over. I m looking forward to finding out if there is a sequel! Calum Stillie, age 11 Gabriel's Clock is an action filled story which finds Jonathan fighting demons to near death in order to save his family; would you? He is being helped to save his mum and dad by his previously unknown grandfather and friends. This book has amazing characterization and I felt like Jonathan's best friend and was part of the story with him. This book is a meatier and cooler version of Beast Quest fans or a light read for fans of Harry Potter. I look forward to the next installment. Ewan Young, age 10 Lots of action and demons, I couldn't put this book down! Jonathan is unique - he is half demon and half angel. His house is attacked and his demon mother takes him to stay with his grandfather and a strange collection of people to protect him, including Elgar the talking cat who is very funny. It is a brilliant book, and quite easy to read, I finished it in one night because I couldn't put it down!

6 Felicity Wilcox, age 10 Very good book, not for the faint hearted! But a lot of my family like it. This is such a good book! I loved reading every bit of it. It's the story of this twelve year old boy called Jonathan who has to: Battle Demons, try not to kill himself with his own power, try not to turn into an evil person, save Hobbs End (his new home), find his Dad, and get a clock and a lot of over stuff that will make a very big list. AND that all linked to the fact he is the only half demon half angel, EVER! Then he is aided by a Vicar, a big man with a cricket bat, a funny Cat (called Elgar I really like him), a nice Girl (called Cay witch I like too) and his granddad witch who is as angel. It s such a good book, it s funny, but not for the faint hearted!
