1 Cite Des Sciences Exhibit Guide The Cité des Sciences presents a host of attractions combining science and leisure activities, with exhibitions, a multimedia library, lectures and forums, cultural outreach, coverage of the latest science news, resource centres and unrivalled scope for children. Ever since it opened, the Cité has linked science to the major issues faced by society, focusing on the environmental, geo-economic and ethical questions raised by technological progress and innovation. To illustrate the link, experts in all parts of the Cité run workshops, scientific games, forums and lectures focusing on today's issues. Below you will find directions to the museum, details of two current temporary exhibits followed by a list of the permanent exhibits together with some highlights that we hope will help you plan your visit!

3 Temporary Exhibitions 21 October 2010 to 3 July 2011 SCIENCE AND FICTION IMAGINATION MEETS REALITY Battlestar Galactica, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Brazil, RoboCop, E.T., Stargate... Who hasn t thrilled to these cult films? Science fiction has invaded our cinema screens, as well as our literature, comic books and video games. And now it has invaded the Cité! This exhibition features iconic objects used in movies, rare sci-fi books, virtual-reality games, an immersive show and scenes from films, taking visitors to a frontier where science and science fiction meet... 4 April 2011 to June 2012 OCEANS AND CLIMATE CHANGE With over 70% of the Earth s surface covered by water, oceans play a crucial role in regulating our climate. This exhibition makes use of spectacular interactive displays to explain the close link between oceans and climate one that threatens the equilibrium of the planet. Demonstrations and experiments to explain thermal expansion of water and the effect of melting ice sheets. Permanent Exhibitions ENERGY Our traditional energy sources are running out and the gap between rich and poor nations is widening. How can we ensure lasting access to energy for all? How can science help us to control and save energy? Featuring interactive displays and collective games, this exhibition focuses on what needs to be done to meet one of the major challenges of the 21st century. Geopolitical panorama of energy sources; thermodynamics THE STORY OF THE UNIVERSE How old is planet Earth? Where does matter come from? Is the universe finite? Find out in this fascinating exploration of the history of matter that takes us back 13.7 billion years. Produced with the support of the French Atomic Energy Commission. 5 EARTHWATCH: THE SATELLITE REVOLUTION Striking images of Earth beamed down from space, remarkable films on space exploration, and an overview of observation technologies used by the satellites monitoring our planet. The focus this year is on sustainable development. TECHNO GALLERY Will our daily lives be transformed by a pill containing a micro-camera, or by a digital cooking assistant? The PillCam Video Capsule the Qooq Cooking Tablet the Minoru 3D Webcam MATHEMATICS The pleasure we get in solving a problem shows that maths is above all an absorbing mental exercise. Visitors can get to grips with this pure science in a series of fun experiments, games and activities. SOUNDS, IMAGES, LIGHT GAMES Three exhibitions where visitors learn about the physics of sound, hearing and the human voice, decode the language of images, and explore 3D vision, optical illusions and perception of colours. MAN AND HIS GENES A thought-provoking exhibition focusing on evolution, heredity, and applications of genetics in medicine, biology and the environment.

6 THE ARGONAUTE SUBMARINE Visitors boarding this legendary French navy vessel (built in 1957) will discover what life under the ocean was like for its 40-man crew. An exhibition beside it presents nuclear submarine Le Redoutable. GÉODE (giant-screen cinema) For a truly breathtaking experience, visitors young and old should head for the Géode, where they can see a stunning Imax or 3D film on a 1,000-square-metre screen. Settled comfortably in reclining seats, they can dive with dolphins, discover the Orient with one of the greatest explorers in history, or get up close to dinosaurs in prehistoric Patagonia.
