1 Marvin Minsky Počítače sú ako husle. Predstavte si bežného človeka, ktorý najprv počúva gramofón, potom vezme do rúk hudobný nástroj. Znie otrasne, povie. Podobný argument počúvame od mnohých humanistov i odborníkov v informatike. Vraj programy nebývajú v konkrétnych aplikáciách dosť prispôsobivé. A husle?

Navrhoval a zostrojil niektoré z prvých mechanických pomôcok s dotykovými senzormi, vizuálnymi snímačmi a ich softwarom a počítačovým rozhraním. Tiež ovplyvnil mnoho robotických projektov mimo MIT, a navrhoval a staval prvé navrhoval a stavěl některé z prvních mechanických pomocí s dotekovými senzory, vizuálními snímači a jejich softwarem a počítačových rozhraní. On také ovlivňoval mnoho robotických projektů ven z MIT, a navrhoval a staval prvé LOGO korytnačka. Prijal BA a PhD v matematike v Harvarde a Princetone. Člen NAS, NAE a Argentina NAS, prijal ACM Turing Award, MIT Killian Award, Japan Prize, IJCAI. Skúmal Excellence Award, Rank Prize a Robert Wood Prize pre Optoelectronics, a Benjamin Franklin Medal. Vo svojom kľúčovom diele "Steps Towards Artificial Intelligence" skúmal a analyzoval všetko čomu sa venoval predtým, a ako hlavný problém presadzoval práve túto novozrodenú disciplínu. Rok 1963, "Matter, Mind, and Models"oslovil problém výroby samoučiaceho stroja. V diele "Perceptrons," 1969, v spolupráci s Seymour Papertom charakterizoval schopnosti a limitácie bezsmyčkového učenia a vzorových rozpoznávaích strojov. V diele "A Framework for Representing Knowledge" (1974) navrhl model znalostí reprezentácie odpovedajúcich na mnohé javy v poznaní, jazykovom porozumení a vizuálnej percepcii. Tieto reprezentácie, nazval frames (rámce) a ich premenné úlohy zdedil po predchádzajúcich definovaných rámcov. V skorých sedemdesiatych rokoch, Minsky a Papert začali formulovať teóriu nazývanú The Society of Mind, ktorá spojila náhľad od vývojovej detskej psychológie a ich skúseností s výskomom Umelej inteligencie. V roku 1985, Minski publikoval "The Society of Mind" - kniha, v ktorej 270 prepojených jednostránkových nápadov odráža štruktúru teórie samo. Každá jedna strana navrhuje práve

3 takýto jeden mechanismus odpovedajúci niektorému psychologickému javu, alebo osloví problém prinesený nejakým navrhnutým riešením ďalšej strany. Od publikácie The Society of Mind, pokračoval Minsky v rozpracovávaní teórie v niekoľkých nasmerovaniach. V súčastnosti pracuje na novej knihe, "The Emotion Machine," kde popisuje úlohy hraných pocitov, cieľov, emócií a vedomými myšlienkami v podmienkach procesov, ktoré motivujú a regulujú aktivity vo vnútri našej osobnej spoločnosti mysle.
