8 Notes on the Contributors Eva Lennox Birch is a lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic in the Humanities department and has a book in preparation on Black women's writing, with the working title of A Coat of Many Colours. Sara Chetin teaches literature and is the Director of the Academic Advising programme at Richmond College, London. She has a BA Hons from the University of California, Berkeley, in French literature, a Licence de Lettres Modernes from the Sorbonne, Paris, and is currently completing her PhD on 'The Concept of Female Subjectivity in African Literature' at the University of Kent. She has given papers and published articles on African literature in Kunapipi, Wasafiri and the Journal of Commonwealth Literature. Dorothy Driver is a Senior Lecturer in the English department at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has published various essays on writing by South African women. She is also South African correspondent for the Journal of Commonwealth Literature where she publishes an annual bibliography and survey of the year's work in South African literature and literary criticism. Her book Pauline Smith and the Crisis of Daughterhood was published in Gabriele Griffin teaches literature at Nene College, Northampton. Her research interests include lesbian writing and the work of contemporary women's theatre groups. She has publications in process including Lesbian Images in Twentieth-Century Women's Writing (1991) and, with E. F. Aston, Stage Left: Women's Theatre Groups in Interview (1991). She and Dr Aston are also editing plays for the Women's Theatre Group for Sheffield Academic Press. Christine Hall is working on her PhD on Toni Morrison at Nottingham University and teaches locally in adult education. She has published articles on Black women's writing in Over here. Elaine Jordan teaches in the Department of Literature, at Essex University where she directs the MAin 'Women's Writing'. She has published widely, including a book on Tennyson (1989). ix
9 X Notes on the Contributors Jackie Roy has just completed her MA at Leeds University and has recently published a work of fiction entitled Soul Daddy (1989). Gina Wisker teaches literature at Anglia Polytechnic, Cambridge, runs the College Access course and teaches on the women's studies MA and short course. Gina has a PhD in contemporary English and American fiction from Nottingham University. She has published articles on contemporary writing and on Black women's writing in Overhere, Literature Teaching Politics, Gen and Ideas and Production, and has contributed essays to other Insights volumes. Bruce Woodcock teaches English literature at Hull University. He has written on John Fowles in Male Mythologies: John Fowles and Masculinity (1984), on Tony Harrison and Thorn Gunn, as well as articles on Caribbean literature.
