This large quilt has been donated by Tammy and Steve Rohrs of Northampton Township in exchange for their LIFE MEMBERS IPS with the Berlin Area Historical Society. 3 FORMER POTTER'S SAWMILL IN BERLIN! his rare picture of the former sawmill owned and operated by A. J. Potter was taken on June 7, 1940 when his enterprise operated near the heart of Berlin. Potter's sawmill was located between the 700 block of Mulberry Street and the 700 block of North Street. After complaints of noise and air pollution from neighborhood residents, A. J. Potter moved his sawmill operations to Meyersdale. This photo was donated by Vicki Groff and was taken from the northern upstairs hall window of her grandfather Robert L. "Coxy" Groffs residence at 719 Main Street. The photo shows McIntyre and Shultz getting ready to pull a small log from under log skids with Potter's truck. Carnival cars, trailers and a truck are parked in the Potter lumber yard. Smoke from Potter's sawmill is shown pouring out the northern side of the lumber mill. When the wind changed, the smoke often poured out to the south over homes along Main Street.
