Issue 82 December 2016 THE ACORN How do snowmen greet each other? What did the police officer say when he saw the snowman stealing? Ice to meet you! Freeze! What do you get when you cross a snowman with a shark? What does a snowman eat for breakfast? Frost bite! Frosted Flakes! Wishing all our readers a wonderful holiday!
We have completed lots of experiments in class linked to forces and magnets. Experimenting with friction Identifying magnetic and non-magnetic materials
0 0 Year 4 have been learning all about circuits in Science and this month. We were lucky enough to visit the Glasgow Science Centre to complete a CAR-azy Car Workshop! We have been learning how to translate shapes on a grid by following a set of directions. We challenge you to give it a go! Translate the shape RIGHT 5 DOWN 4. Draw the shape in its new position. What are the new co-ordinates? Ta-Dah! Our first collection of Clarice Cliff artwork is complete! 0
Year 5: ICT Focus Tyra Tiarn Fergus Windsor Challenge 1 To try to create an animation of a snowman being built using the tools on to animate. USING PURPLE MASH TO CREATE ANIMATIONS USING PURPLE MASH TO CREATE BOOKS Challenge 2 To write a book with illustrations to share with pupils in Year 3.
SDL ASSIGNMENT During November we were set an SDL assignment. This assignment involved a family called the Wilson family. The family want to move to Europe because of Brexit. They decided that they wanted to move to either Italy or Germany. The big question is Italy or Germany where should they move? We are using research books to find out important facts about each country. So far we have finished our research and are now onto our create and present. One of our interesting facts are that the longest German word is 79 letters long. The skills that we are developing are teamwork, creativity skills and independent learning. REFLECTION ART Year 5 and 6 participated in a joined art lesson this month to create a cityscape reflection. To start off, we split the page in half by using a ruler, then painted one half with cold colours and the other half with warm colours. Once we completed the painting, we got an A5 piece of paper and drew a cityscape then we copied our design onto an A5 piece of polystyrene. Then we got a roller and rolled the ink on the paint tray, and rolled the ink onto the piece of polystyrene and then got the painted piece and put the polystyrene onto the piece of paper. The results were spectacular! YEAR 6 Page designed and edited by Lila Fowler and Zachary Lindberg PERSONIFICATION POETRY Personification is when you give an inanimate object a human quality. For our analysing poems task we analysed a range of personification poems so we became more familiar with the key features. We picked out the nouns, verbs, adverbials and the main idea. We also wrote down the unfamiliar vocabulary and the figurative language. The process of writing our own poem started when we created unusual noun and verb combinations and added adverbials. For example, The moon boils in a starlit sky. Finally, we used our ideas to create our own personification poems and we typed them for display. Examples of our poems can be found on the back page.
The Chaotic Harbour The lightning crashes, The wave smashes, Against the harbour wall. The harbour shouts, Its bellow is loud, Beside the beach of gloom. The thunder stomps, Like there was a bomb, Meanwhile, his temper is rising. Slowly, slipping through the sky, The clouds stay quiet as mice, But all is well when the ferocious fighting stops, Then, the silence takes over. CRAZY MUSIC Drums bang and crash, Guitars wail and wobble, Pianos plink and plonk, Trumpets puff and parp, As the music rocks and rolls. Rock stars sing and yell, As break dancers flip and flop, Basses sizzle and scream, The drums crash and fight. Spot lights flash and change, Violins moan and cry, Rock stars stamp and shine, As the amp gives off heat, The audience claps and yell, Flutes flow and flutter, Mikes screech as pop stars yell, they carry on in a frenzied mess. The music slows down, The pop stars stop, And the break dancers calm down to ease. Bronwyn Ker The thunder claps in an angry rage, Shaking the Earth. The lightning flashes, Trying to blind people. The rain flows trying to flood the Earth, Pouring down like an angry storm. The wind blows, trying to blow everyone over, As it races through the sky. By Zander Paterson
