1 General Inroducion In measuremen, posiioning and conrol applicaions, i is necessary o monior and indicae he saus of he machine or insallaion. In order for he signal o be processed by he programmable conroller, i mus be presened in digial form or convered o one of he sandard signals of 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma or O 1O V. Murrelekronik can supply a wide range of inelligen inerface modules wih he addiional benefi of opo-isolaion of inpus and oupus. Analogue Coupler Modules The analogue signals from sensors and oher such measuring devices are usually in one of he sandard signal formas of 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma or O 10 V. The Murrelekronik analogue coupler modules will accep one of hese signals and change i o give an oupu in any of he 3 forms. The addiional benefi is ha he inpus and oupus are also opo-isolaed. A common problem occurs when a volage signal mus be ransfered over a long disance. In order o minimize he possibiliy of an incorrec volage signal being received, i is common pracice o conver he volage ino a curren signal. Similarly, he digial oupu signals from he PLC mus someimes be convered ino analogue signals, e.g. o conrol posiioning devices. The programmable conrol uni works in binary as does he Murrelekronik module. The higher he number of bis, he finer he resoluion and he beer he conrol. The signals from he sensors are convered ino he correc form for he PLC, processed and presened o he oupu field devices simply and effecively. The digial-analogue module convers binary signals ino one of he sandard signals of O 20 ma, 4 20 ma, O 10 V, whereas he analogue-digial module does he reverse. 2 The frequency o analogue converer from Murrelekronik will conver he sinusoidal oupu from a achogeneraor, or he pulse rain from an encoder, ino an analogue value proporional o he RPM. The oupu will be one of he sandard forms of volage or curren 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma or O 10 V. The oupu is opo-isolaed from he inpu o avoid inerference. The mos commonly used probe is he PT 100 ype. Comparaor Modules The Murrelekronik comparaor modules compare o he analogue volage or curren values wih inernal or exernal references o overshoo and undershoo hese adjusable limis and give up he corresponding oupu signals. Page MFW, MIFW Over long disances, signals can be falsified or damaged due o he cable resisance and oher inerference. This can be sopped by convering he sandard oupu signals ino an equivalen frequency signal. Signal inpu and oupu are elecrically isolaed. Page MFW, MFIW The frequency converer convers frequency signals up o 100 khz ino an equivalen analogue signal (0 10 V, 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma). Two possible applicaions can be covered: 1. Monioring an analogue inpu signal o see if i goes ouside pre-defined limis 2. 4 MTW Signals from a PT 100 Sensor are convered using he emperaure converer modules ino sandard oupu signals (0 10 V, 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma). I is herefore easy o make a cos-effecive connecion beween he process monioring and he process adminisraion (i.e. PLC). To sop signal corrupion which occurs due o cable resisance, he module allows for 3-wire measuremen compensaion. Page MESCO Measuring and monioring relays o monior and measure elecrical values. The MTW module supplies a consan curren o he PT 100 resisor across, which develops a variable volage. These are hen measured and he signal sen o he OT erminal. All hree signals can be used a he same ime. The 2 wire echnology allows shor disances beween he MTW and he PT100 sensor o be covered i.e. <5m. For longer disances, 3 wire echnology compensaes for he cable resisance. For hree wire echnology, remove he bridge beween 2 and 3.
