3 3 The New Audiophile Performance Class Two cabinets loaded with similar speakers, two virtually identical frequency response charts, but two extremely different sonic results: What gives? Coming as no surprise to seasoned sound techs, this phenomenon shows that the usual nominal specs and basic response charts can provide no more than a superficial impression of a speaker s audio qualities. Speech and music consist of complex, impulse-rich sonic events that make great demands on a sound reinforcement system s capacity for dynamic performance. In other words, the bandwidth of undistorted sound pressure and the response time of components are the key criteria for a sound system s audio quality. This was precisely the conceptual premise for the LINEAR 3 family. There is a way to effectively reduce dynamic distortion caused by the different transient response of low, middle and high range speakers: Select powerful, responsive components, optimize their pulse behavior, design an enclosure specifically to support this enhanced response, and fine-tune all components to act in perfect harmony. As a result, the LINEAR 3 series offers greater clarity and more sound pressure at extreme impulses, without the usual dip in key frequency ranges levels. To be able to deliver these tonal advantages, LINEAR 3 models require power amps with adequate dynamic performance capacity. This is why we recommend the use of high-performance power amps - when in doubt, always go for the more muscular option. When you combine amps boasting considerable impulse power with the LINEAR 3 series amazing impulse handling capacity, you get a truly useful, distortion-free sound pressure level unmatched by any system in this class.

4 DuoTilt Speaker Stand Mounting Collar Address your audience, not the ceiling! With a regular speaker stand mounting collar up to 50% of sound energy are dissipated, ceiling reflections cause phase cancellations, and the sound appears often washed out and indistinct. This is why pro PA companies fly their sound systems. Of course, this is a very elaborate operation and impracticable for most bands. The newly developed, integrated DuoTilt speaker stand mounting collar enables you to make far more efficient use of sound energy. Offering two different angles and 15 - it lets you align speakers to the audience. Troublesome ceiling reflections are minimized, focusing sound for a clear and punchy sonic image. The cabinet remains precisely at its center of gravity - no wobbling, tilting, or unintentional turning. Passive Crossover in the Subwoofer The LR 118 subwoofer features a full-fledged on-board crossover with low- and high-pass filters. It ensures that each loudspeaker renders precisely the frequency range it is designed for, and that spells superior performance. In addition, the crossover provides improved consistency of the overall system impedance, therefore assuring more effective distribution of the power amp s output. The result: far more headroom for low end performance, crisp bass frequencies and precise mids. 5 Design Variants Catering to users who prefer a more subdued look, LINEAR 3 cabinets are also available in Classic versions featuring time-honored HK AUDIO aesthetics and a foam front grille. The Lightguide helps you anticipate the exact coverage pattern. 5 LightGuide Display* What you see is what you hear! The LightGuide Display helps with accurate positioning, shows current signal status, indicates the setting of the Sound Field Selector switch, and enhances operational safety. The LED indicator helps with setup by making it easy to aim the sound energy in the horizontal plane in such a way as to avoid undesirable reflections and cancellations. In addition, it indicates the Sound Field Selector s setting - yellow for Close, green for Regular. The LED indicator lights up as soon as a signal is routed into the cabinet. The Peak LED illuminates to indicate that the cabinet is being driven at the limit of its power handling capacity. The Signal LED indicates the sound field: Bright and clearly visibly => full sound Weak and indirectly lit => the level has arrived at -6 db, high frequencies are audibly cut LightGuide Display modes: Signal LED lights green: Incoming signal, the selected sound field is Regular Signal LED lights yellow: Incoming signal, the selected sound field is Close. Peak LED lights red: Indicates maximum load Sound Field Selector* Particularly in small rooms, a high performance driver s high range output can be excessive. This is why LR 112 and LR 115 cabinets are equipped with a Sound Field Selector that dampens high frequencies on demand. The Sound Field Selector lets you adjust the cabinet s high frequency response: Close is for small venues or rehearsal rooms, Regular for bigger halls. * These two features are not available on LINEAR 3 CLASSIC models.

6 LR 112 / LR 112 Classic Sporting a 12" loudspeaker and 1" 60 x 40 CD horn, these full-range cabinets pack a mighty punch. Vocals, guitars, horns as well as other acoustic and electronic sound sources are rendered in astonishingly accurate detail. The 15" speaker makes this an excellent choice for enhanced low mid response and stand-alone applications. This, in a nutshell, is a genuine all-round system. LR 112/118 Classic System For a more subdued look, opt for the Classic version featuring time-honored HK AUDIO aesthetics and a foam front grille. The CLASSIC version ships without a Sound Field Selector or LightGuide Display*. LR 115/118 System The first-choice setup for everyone who likes a mighty yet focused low end and loves the warm sound of 15" loudspeakers. Particularly adept at delivering big beats generated by drum machines and largerthan-life keyboard sounds. LR 115/118 Classic System For a more subdued look, opt for the Classic version featuring time-honored HK AUDIO aesthetics and a foam front grille. The CLASSIC version ships without a Sound Field Selector or LightGuide Display. 7 Choosing the right Power Amp To reach the best possible performance with LINEAR 3 systems we recommend the use of highperformance power amps - when in doubt, always go for the more muscular option (2x 600 watts /4 ohms or more). When you combine amps boasting considerable impulse power with the LINEAR 3 series amazing impulse handling capacity, you get a truly useful, distortion-free sound pressure level unmatched by any system in this class. * Sound Field Selector and LightGuide Display not available on the Classic version.
