In the current issue we profile two exciting new products, the SP304 series UHF panel antennas and the SD210R, 212R & 214R series VHF directional antennas. In the News-Flash section we are pleased to announce the results of successful road tests of the new patented SHA211 VHF and SHA311 UHF disguised bumper antennas. We have also included an overview of the 220 MHz antennas and the Excelsior series mobile antennas. And since many of you expressed interest in learning about the anodizing option for our antennas, this issue contains an article on the anodizing process in the Tech Bulletin section. 2 July 2009 Issue -2 Product Showcase SD210R, 212R & 214R Series Low PIM VHF Directional Antennas Sinclair s new SD210R, 212R and 214R series now includes rugged exposed dipole antennas with welded corner reflectors for low PIM. Each model in this series is broadband and covers the entire frequency range of MHz. For VHF simulcast applications horizontal beamwidths of 60, 90 and 120 degrees are available, with 1, 2 and 4 bay dipole options to accommodate high gain requirements. The unique design enables low passive intermodulation, -150 dbc. These SD212 antennas come with two separate flat screen reflectors for easy shipping and convenient onsite assembly, side mounted only. Specially designed clamps are used for Low PIM contact. Please call Sinclair Customer Service for more details: Product News Sinclair s 220 MHz Antennas To meet the unique requirements of the rail and transport industries, Sinclair offers a broad range of heavy-duty 220MHz antennas including collinears, exposed diploes and mobiles. Our world renowned Excaliber Series has been expanded to include the ST221-SF3 antenna covering MHz. The Excaliber TM ST221 uses a low-profile, cast aluminum design to achieve unparalleled levels of durability and performance. Key market applications for Sinclair rail and transport antennas include trains, subways, trams, monorails, security trucks, buses, heavy transport vehicles and marine vessels. SP304 UHF Panel Antennas Sinclair s new SP304 series, light weight, easy to install UHF panel antennas offer excellent reliability and durability for mission critical applications. Featuring a radome protected compact design these low passive intermodulation (PIM) SP304 antennas are available in vertical, cross and circular polarizations. The polarized wideband version (SP304V-SWB, vertically polarized) is broadband and covers the range of MHz with other models in the series covering the band in two frequency splits: MHz and MHz. Various electrical downtilt (0,10,15) and beamwidth (65/70, 90 and 120) options are available. The dual port, cross polarized version (SP304X) can be used for polarization diversity to reduce multiple path effect. [2] Excaliber ST221 Excaliber ST421R A further extension to Sinclair s Excaliber line is the rugged low profile ST421R, this radome enclosed antennas is only 53 mm in height. This model was designed to meet the new GSM-R European Rail Standard for radio communications in the MHz band, and to operate generally in the MHz frequency range. Please contact Sinclair Customer Service for more details at Excelsior TM Series Tech Bulletin Anodizing Antennas - A Smart Choice To combat harsh weather and corrosive factors in the environment, Sinclair antennas are often given a black anodize coating that both looks esthetically pleasing and adds surface hardness to protect the aluminum. Currently Sinclair offers two types of anodizing, ABK and MABK. The ABK designation is an ASTM specification that complies with the type II version of mil-a-8625 in a bath containing sulfuric acid to produce a uniform anodic coating with a thickness of micrometers on aluminum surfaces. The MABK coating is a military specification and provides the maximum degree of resistance against abrasion and wear with a minimum coating thickness of 50 micrometers. What is Anodizing? Aluminum anodizing is the electrochemical process by which aluminum is converted into aluminum oxide on the surface. It is particularly effective for enhancing ice shedding (the black color absorbs heat from the SD212-H (MABK) sunlight) and resisting corrosion. Black anodizing offers the following benefits for your antennas: - Increased corrosion resistance - Increased scratch and wear resistance - Electrical insulation (anodized aluminum is non-conductive) - De-icing Sinclair s directional yagi antennas such as the SY406 and SY307 are available in black anodized finish. Results indicate that these versatile antennas perform equally well as any VHF ½ wavelength fender SHA211 mounted antenna. These durable and adaptable antennas were easily installed under a variety of bumpers having different specifications. Tests also revealed that when there is insufficient space inside the bumper the housing can be installed on any other metal structure on the vehicle body as long as the antenna radiator can be covered by a non-metallic bumper cover or non-metallic fender cover. This gives added installation flexibility to our customers. The road tests were conducted in the most challenging type of vehicles (SUVs and Vans) and it is expected that the antennas will meet if not exceed performance standards in smaller sedan type vehicles.
