4 Heart Beat GPS Logger Power Pulse Activity Log Transmit Track Mode Normal Mode Sleep Mode Geofencing A tag is defined as a unit to be placed on an animal (i.e. collar) that transmits a VHF, UHF, GSM or Satellite signal to be tracked. A heart beat is a transmitted RF signal containing tag information. (absence/presence signals) Recording data over time or in relation to location that is stored on the as well as transmitted using the UHF, GSM or Satellite channels available, with a maximum log interval of 0 minutes. A power pulse is one high power heart beat between many low power heart beats. Raw 3-axis accelerometer data transmitted only over UHF and not stored on the, with a maximum sampling interval of second. This is the interval at which the GPS Log data is transmitted over GSM or Satellite, but will always be transmitted over UHF. Track Mode is when the is set to use maximum RF power while transmitting continuous GPS data. This mode will revert back to Normal Mode after a track mode timeout period to conserve battery power. Normal Mode of operation with low power settings while taking GPS Logs readings at set intervals. Sleep Mode is the lowest power mode with all features disabled. The will only transmit a UHF signal and listen for new commands every 5 minutes. Geofencing is a virtual geographical boundary using the global positioning system. Table 3. 13 RF Power (dbm) High RF Power Low RFPower 300sec 300sec 300sec Heartbet Time Figure 5: Sleep Mode Timeline (UHF, GSM, GS-SAT, IR-SAT) Absence/Presence Absence/Presence is simply a transmitted VHF or UHF signal with no telemetry data (i.e GPS data) repeated on a regular interval to indicate the presence of a. A lack of a signal will indicate the absence of a. A UHF will include a ID, whereas VHF will only transmit a CW (continuous Wave) pulse High RF Power High RF power is a RF Transmit power higher than +0dBm. These levels are typically +5, +20, +25 and +30dBm and are selected according to the battery fitted to the collar. Track Mode will use High RF Power but revert back to low power (+0dBm) when entering Normal Mode GPS Logger The GPS logger is a scheduler that takes GPS reading, then Transmits the data via UHF (GSM, GS-SAT or IR- SAT if available) and lastly stores the data onto the s non-volatile memory. The can store up to 2000 GSP readings (memory for 8000 GPS readings on request) before older data is overwritten with new readings. The following command are available for changing the GPS Logger settings: - Download All Logs, allows the user to download the entire memory. - Download Selected Logs, allows the user to download Logs within a start and stop date. - Query Logs, allows the user to query the number of logs on the s memory without downloading. - Clear Logs, allows the user to delete all the Logs on the s memory. - GPS Logger Setting, This allows the user to change the reporting interval or disable to Logger entirely. The reporting intervals can be seen in the Normal Mode Data and Settings table with the table below showing the data Transmitted and saved data for each GPS Log entry. 3 Animal Wildlife Tracking User Manual

The Store and Forward allows the GSM and IR-SAT s to store unsuccessful GPS Log transmissions and then be retransmitted once a connection is established on the next GPS Log reporting schedule. The limit on the stored messages for forwarding is determined by the s GPS Logger memory. The Store and forward is limited to cellular and Iridium satellite communication link only, and also require the Variable Log Transmit setting to be / Immediate Location The Immediate Location allows the user to get the first current GPS location (first GPS reading, irrelevant of DOP) from the while storing the GPS Log data in the s memory. The will remain in Normal Mode after transmitting the GPS data. It could take up to 20 to get a GPS location as the will have to get a GPS signal before transmitting the GPS Log data Geofencing is a virtual geographical boundary using the global positioning system and have the following options: - Query sends the current four coordinates forming the perimeter from the, with the top left corner being the N/W Latitude and Longitude and the bottom right corner being the S/E Latitude and Longitude. A coordinate set to means that perimeter is not active. - Clear Alarms allows the the alarms to be cleared if set. - Apply boundary uploads the 2 sets of coordinates forming the boundary. 5 Animal Wildlife Tracking User Manual

16 Every time the takes a GPS log reading the will check the boundary to see if a breach has occurred only if the has been enabled. If a breach has been detected, the will set a Alarm.
