The line of light hitting an object is projected on the receiver array as an outline corresponding to the height profile of the object. The DMH is primarily used for automating industrial production processes and testing procedures in which system-relevant positioning parameters are generated from profile information. Twodimensional height information can be collected by means of laser light, the light-section method and a,0 bit receiver array. Height profiles can be monitored, filling levels detected, magazines counted and the presence of objects checked. The DMH projects a line of light at a defined angle across the object to be scanned. Because of the fixed angle between the sender and receiver axis, all height variations across the object result in lateral displacement of the line The DMH is available in two device versions: as a shingle counter and as a height gauge with five different integrated software modes. The shingle counter is used in the printing and packaging industries to count overlapping objects. The DMH emits a counting pulse as soon as it detects a layer in the offset stack. Up to 0 objects per second can be counted with layer heights of just. mm. It is increasingly replacing mechanical switches and other sensor solutions. In the case of the height gauge, five frequently encountered applications stored as software programs can be called up via a selector switch on the device: evaluation of a defined beginning and end range, evaluation of sudden height variations and differences, profile detection, monitoring filling levels, and edge monitoring. 3 DMH Light section sensors DMH Standard Scanning distance... mm DMH Standard with five integral software variants The DMH is used predominantly for the automation of industrial production and test processes, where height information is the basis for the setting of other parameters within the system. The device is available with a measurement range of to mm and is suitable for the direct detection of small objects or sections of objects. The following applications are just some examples in which the DMH light section sensor evaluates height information, where previously an inspection system may have been used: Control of web edges, e.g. during paper or plastic tape production Position detection of components on a conveyor belt Checking packages for contents Detecting filling levels of solid media Continuously monitoring profiles produced directly on a machine, e.g. in the confectionery, food, plastics and rubber industries. Although the examples above differ from each other in terms of their evaluation criteria, they can all be handled using the DMH height finder. The device contains integrated software programs, which can be chosen using a selector switch. This makes the DMH quick and easy to use without the need for special programs. Operating principle of the light section sensor The DMH operates using class laser light and shines a laser beam over the sampled object at a defined angle. The laser light that impinges the object is then imaged on a detector array as a contour. This contour corresponds to the height profile of the object. The device transmits an analogue value of between and 0 ma, depending on the selected mode. In addition, each software variant has a switching output. Two switching outputs are available for checking filling levels. 4 DMH Light section sensor The height information is programmed during the so-called teach-in procedure. A reference object is positioned below the linear light of the DMH and the teach-in procedure is initiated by pressing a button on the unit or via the external teach-in input cable. During the teach-in procedure, the light distribution on the photo-array of the receiver is evaluated and stored as a reference value against the selected tolerance position. The function indicator on the unit signals the status of the teach-in procedure. The program selector switch on the DMH is then set to the RUN or RUN DELAY position and the DMH height finder is ready for operation. No special lighting or software required No separate lighting unit is required because the DMH produces its own light. The unit s high insensitivity to ambient light means that no expensive provision has to be made to create stable illumination at the site of detection. The DMH is protected by a compact metal housing, enclosure rating IP 7, and as a result of its simple assembly and operation, provides the function of a standard photoelectric switch. There are no requirements for additional hardware components, such as a computer for evaluating the detected profile lines. Scanning distance... mm mm DMH Shingle counters DMH Shingle counters The shingle counter is specially designed for counting objects arranged in an overlapping format. Laser light, a triangulation process and a 0 bit receiver array provide a quick, precise and cost-effective method for counting newspapers, magazines, folded boxes, cartons, etc. This device provides a simple alternative to mechanical switching or other sensor solutions. Direction of transport The shingle counter positions a light line at a defined angle above the object being scanned. The light line meets a layer and is mapped onto the receiver array. This enables height peaks to be detected and an output pulse is the result. Three different software variants are integrated into the shingle counter. These are activated by pressing a key. Software variants and are used predominantly for counting objects layered on top of each other. Software variant is used, for example, when the presence of objects requires monitoring. The minimum object thickness for safe detection is. mm. To detect the layers, the software is programmed to only evaluate the negative flanks. This avoids incorrect counting when the layers are moving. A benefit of this system is that height fluctuations that occur with objects on conveyors have no effect on the accuracy.
