Delivering More for Less Where You Want It, When You Want It! O3b Networks Government Solutions Military Communications and Information Systems Conference (MIlCis) 2013 O3b Networks at a Glance What we do Building a next-generation satellite constellation: capable of offering our customers connectivity which is better, faster and more affordable 70+ Ka-band beams of 720km (~450nm) diameter: steerable around the globe, each delivering up to 1.2 Gbps Initial constellation of eight MEO satellites: providing fiber-like latency Each beam is connected to a high throughput teleport providing reliable, highspeed internet at a competitive price Continuous coverage: when one satellite leaves, another satellite takes over without transmission interruption O3b is on schedule for service launch in Q2CY14 1
O3b Networks Space Vehicle Overview O3b Satellites Final Assembly at Thales, Cannes, France 2
O3b Networks Launch Schedule Update Successful launch of O3b Networks satellites 1-4 on June 25 th by Arianespace from French Guiana Satellites 1-4 now equally spaced in Equatorial orbit at 8062 km (5000NM) TT&C tracking from O3b Gateway sites in Hawaii, Australia, Greece, and Peru all working normally Initiating End-to-End data testing Hawaii Gateway and 4.5m and 2.4m user terminal at Cook Islands Texas Gateway and 2.1m maritime terminals onboard RC vessels in Caribbean Satellites 5-8 to be launched by Arianespace Q1CY14 Satellites 9-12 built; launch date TBD Commercial Service available Q2CY14 O3b Networks Satellite Orbits 3
O3b Service Regions (8 satellite Constellation) Pacific North America South America West Africa East Africa Central Asia Australia Regional Gateways (Teleport) Locations offering gateway connectivity for customer nodes to Fiber infrastructure O3b Satellites Communications Capabilities Each satellite has 12 steerable antennas In the nominal Gateway-homed configuration: 10 antennas used for customer beams 2 antennas used for Gateway connectivity Each antenna (beam) is independently steerable to any location within +/- 62 latitude Customer beams have 216 MHz of capacity in each direction, 432 MHz in total per beam Loopback beams can also be configured to provide localized connectivity up and down in the same beam 216 MHz of total bandwidth is divided up between forward and return directions Used as a VSAT solution within a single beam Beams on a single satellite Can be stacked at the same location to provide additional capacity Additional single satellite capability - Can be cross-strapped so two beams provide communication links between two sites on same satellite - Communications can occur directly between government remote terminals and/or government gateways, bypassing O3b teleports. - A highly secure and reliable communications configuration 4
Nominal beam configuration Loopback beam configuration 5
Cross-strapped beam configuration Government Needs Net-Centric Operations with O3b Today s Network Centric Warfare demands ever higher connections from the front line to command centers Internet connectivity provides a vital lifeline back home for troop welfare Latency Low latency (< 150msec) for time critical applications Worldwide Coverage Satellite constellation provides common frequencies and performance worldwide Applications High bandwidth traffic or ultra-high by stacking beams Tactical and support communications Troop Welfare (Internet, Communications, Medical) Rapid response Troop deployment Disaster recovery Potential for multiple application (Space and Ground) using common equipment 6
What O3b can offer to the Government Market High Throughput Beam throughput up to 1.2Gbps Supports Government reach back and data exfiltration from remote locations Supports deployed 2G/3G/4G LTE networks Throughput up to 1.2Gbps - Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) networks Low Latency <150ms RTT latency supports data and applications, similar to terrestrial performance Support increasingly stringent security and encryption without need for accelerators Focused Coverage Beam Size - 720km (~450nm) Narrow beams that are inherently resilient against interference - Coordinated GEO Frequencies - Non-GEO Frequencies Beam on the Move (BOTM) Fully flexible and fully mobile beams and coverage from Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites Provide 100 s Mbps high throughput services to mobile platforms (e.g. ships, aircraft (manned and unmanned (ISR) )and vehicles in transit) Where Gov t customer wants and when Value (Price) O3b service price will be less than existing Ku-band and Ka-band geosynchronous service. Leveraging terminal developments Partnering with existing satellite services providers. < <150ms < State of the Art Commercial Solutions Adapted for Government Requirements 13 Addressing Government Requirements Reachback to CONUS Enhancing C2 with BYOD LTE Tactical Network Enterprise Naval Mobility (COTM or COTH) Adapting and Expanding Products & Services to Meet Government Needs 7
Ground Troop Rollout Operational Concept 4GLTE Services at the Tactical Edge today Leverage position for migration Communications on the move, Multi-echelon voice calling, Improved SA Accuracy, Range Extension, Web 2.0 Tools, Video Capture, UAS Support, Edge Devices, Sensor Integration 4GLTE 4GLTE 4GLTE 4GLTE 8
