Scheduled bulletins and warnings for coastal areas are broadcast on VHF, in. Coastal warnings (BMS - Bulletins Météorologiques Spéciaux) are broadcast whenever the wind has risen to or is forecast to rise to Near Gale force 7 within coastal waters (Coastal BMS) instead of Gale force 8 in high seas and distant waters (Offshore BMS). Scheduled bulletins consist of a repeat of any BMS warning in force, a description of the synoptic situation, a detailed forecast for the following 24 hours (wind, sea state, visibility), further weather trends dependent on the forecast and where appropriate reports from signal stations. Broadcasts transmitted on Channel 16 before being broadcast on the scheduled frequency. Coastal BMS are systematically transmitted at every hour, starting at H+03 (simultaneous broadcasting is not possible), on all VHF transmitters.
