3 FCC Authorizes Relm P25 UHF Mobile Radios FCC NEWS Relm wireless announced that its newest Project ( P25 ) digital mobile radios, the BK Radios KNG M400 and M500, received equipment authorization from the Federal Communication Commission for use in the United States. The radios provide interopersbility under the P25 standard These models represent our First new digital mobile radios In the UHF band, which now enable us to compete for opportunities and customers that previously were outside the operating scope of our product line, said Relm President and CEO David Story. We believe the KNG M400 and M500 will be well received by prospective customers, offering an extensive feature set and world-class performance. Raytheon Plans Public - Safety Technology Center in Los Angeles ( 01/24/11 ) Raytheon Employee Newsletter Raytheon plans to open a public-safety regional technology center (RTC) in Los Angels County this summer and is in the final stages of Selecting a location with about 25,000 square feet of space. The RTC will serve as the focus of the company s civil communications business in the western United States, providing test and research facilities, training, a maintenance and logistics center, and customer and system support. Up to 150 people will work there. For the RTC, Raytheon is creating a research capability tailored to public-safety needs and is forming a consortium of communications experts from across academia, industry and the public-safety community. This team will be dedicated to independently verifying future technologies for integration into an open architecture, standards-based system, validating backward compatibility with legacy systems, and testing proposed public-safety technologies. The mission of the Raytheon public-safety RTC will be to test and certify current and future technologies for use by public-safety agencies to enhance the effectiveness of our first responders and the safety of the communities they serve, said Dan Crowley, president, Raytheon network centric systems. This latest investment underscores our commitment to the public-safety market and will better connect first responders with the latest technologies and capabilities to help them save lives. California Highway Patrol Interoperability Solution CHP Communications Division The California Highway Patrol has begun a statewide initiative to upgrade Communications capability for their officers. The CHP Enhanced Radio System, the CHPERS project for short, is a multi phased project that will add 7/800MHz Project 25 mobile radios to all patrol vehicles and portable radios to all officers beginning in late 2009, with estimated completion in late The new equipment will complement the CHP s system wide radio enhancement effort, which will also include installation of local 700 MHz

4 California Highway Patrol Interoperability Solution base station equipment at all field offices and commercial vehicle inspection facilities. The addition of the new equipment will greatly improve the CHP s ability to communicate during critical incidents and responses with agencies operating on these bands throughout the states. Additionally, the CHP will begin using the 700 MHz channels acquired as the primary band for the vehicle repeater system used to connect officers to the low band radio when out of the vehicle. Patrol vehicles will find a new package of mobile radios covering VHF low band, VHF high band, UHF and 700/800 MHz, which will all be accessible through the vehicle repeater system. The first rollout has begun in Sacramento County. The CHP entered into a Secondary User Agreement with the Sacramento Regional Radio Communications System (SRRCS) allowing the new CHP portables to communicate directly with the law enforcement and fire agencies in Sacramento County and the City of West Sacramento without a manual patch. Through agreement with the City of Roseville, SRRCS also added Roseville s police talk groups to the new portables. As part of the COPS 2007 grant, SRRCS, with the cooperation of the CHP, is adding a low band transceiver at their head in and connecting it to an 800 MHz talk group; furthering SRRCS s interoperability with the CHP. DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration now uses P25 digital transmissions as well as analog and a few SCMA members have verified some communications in the clear PL Tone / NAC-156 in use in the Los Angeles and Orange Counties areas.
