8 Fluvial and maritime regulations and standards research Rules and regulations on positioning systems and equipment At system level IMO resolution A.1046(27) focus on World Wide Radio Navigation System (WWRNS) operational requirements for a generic component of the system GNSS- included, together with an augmentation system- most critical operations ITU-R M need for augmentation Augmentation systems- DGNSS and SBAS Advantages of SBAS towards DGNSS Augmentation over a much larger area Service provided to an unlimited number of ships No additional terrestrial infrastructure

9 Fluvial and maritime regulations and standards research Position of the Romanian fluvial and naval authorities concerning the use of EGNOS as augmentation system Use of SBAS as augmentation system- no possibility of any control on the system (as for DGPS) RNA and LDRA focused on the user needs RNA The mission of RNA- to create the best possible traffic conditions for the economic operators (safety and efficiency) If EGNOS offers better performances in terms of positioning with lower costs for the economic operators- RNA will sustain this kind of system, whether the authority has or has not the control of the system. LDRA: beside the lower cost for the operators, the augmentation system should have the possibility to be easily integrated in the RIS services in order not to add new tasks to the ship-master
