Inroducion The IVT-MOD is a high precision curren and volage measuremen sysem, designed for DC applicaions. The produc is based on a modular design and provides flexibiliy for fas adapaions o mee cusomer requiremens in he auomoive and he indusrial area. The coninuous curren measuremen has a range up o ±000 A and he volage channels include a range of ±600 V, and i is approved for coninuous operaion. A higher currens (i. e. peaks) he measuremen range will exend auomaically. The shun-based measuremen mehod uses a 6-bi analog-digial converer o ransform he volage drop ino a digial signal. The communicaion is based on a CAN bus inerface. A CAN descripion file (CAN-dbc) is available and suppors fas sysem inegraion. 2 Due o he large number of modular combinaions hree basic modules were defined o cover mos applicaions. Every basic sensor can be adaped o cusomer specific requiremens. 3 . Applicaion The IVT-MOD is designed for a wide range of DC applicaions. For example: Hybrid and full elecric drives PS sysems Saionary energy sorage sysems Fuel cells Baery and sorage based applicaions 3. Addiional feaures The IVT-MOD has a high number of feaures. The following feaures are available for all modular combinaions. 3. Measuremen modes Disable Trigger Cycle running I is possible o configure each channel individually. Disable mode The measuremen channel is disabled. The channel does no reac o a sofware command or hardware rigger. 3. Inernal safey The sensor saus is inernally moniored by he microconroller. In case of a sensor failure a saus bi is se and he overcurren signal (OCS) is generaed (low-acive signal oupu). (See OCS chaper 4). During he sar-up phase he OCS is also acive. To verify he curren measuremen of he firs channel, a second virually independen ADC channel is used. The sysem compares he signal of boh channels o deerminae malfuncions in he ADC. Furhermore he ADC s reference volage is moniored. Therefore he IVT-MOD can deec a non-valid measuremen condiion on he curren channel (chaper 5.). Trigger mode The module sends a measuremen resul message in response o a received rigger command. This command can be eiher a sofware message or a hardware rigger line signal. In case of a deeced hardware rigger signal, he module sars one single measuremen cycle. The hardware rigger inpu is buil as a high-acive inpu (rising edge). For more informaion see chaper 4. Cycle running mode The module sends a measuremen resul message afer a configured cycle ime. Example: curren channel cycle ime: 0 ms. 4 3.3 Log daa The log daa are coninually sored, wih an inerval of 5 minues. In case of a sensor rese, he las sored logdaa will be recovered. 6 4. Overcurren signal (OCS) This funcionaliy implemens an overcurren deecion for posiive and negaive curren direcions. As soon as he overcurren is deeced he alarm line OCS is acivaed, which indicaes an overcurren condiion o he exernal circui. The OCS is a sofware feaure, so i is possible o se he overcurren hreshold for se OCS and rese OCS, separaely for posiive and negaive curren direcions. Therefore he hyseresis can be easily defined by he se and rese hreshold (see figure 3). The configured hreshold value is compared wih he measuremen value. Afer exceeding he hreshold he open-collecor oupu is acive-low (figure ). The OCS-Pin is designed for a maximum curren of 5 ma wih a min. pull-up resisor of 4 KOhm. The maximal inpu volage depends on emperaure and curren (see figure 4). The OCS is deacivaed when he measured value is below he rese hreshold value (figure 3). 7 4.3 Hardware rigger The IVT-MOD opionally provides a hardware rigger inpu. The rigger signal could be used o synchronise he measuremen beween he IVT-MOD and exernal sysems. Every channel ha is configured o rigger mode or cyclic mode reacs o a rising edge on PIN 3.b and PIN3.d. The channels will rese o heir iniial condiion and sar measuring by using he configured inerval. Figure 5 shows a channel ha reacs o a rigger signal. Afer deecing rigger signal he measuremen sars wihin 0 50 µs. As he minimum rigger inerval a ime of ms + configured rigger inerval is required before riggering he nex measuremen. A rigger inerval of less han 50% of he configured rigger inerval will cause a rerigger. A pulse widh of a leas 00 µs has o be complied (see Figure 6). Elecrical properies see chaper 6.5. The selecion of a required measuremen range deermines he shun resisance. Every shun value has unique characerisics (see echnical daa, chaper 6). One limiaion characerisic is he maximum load of he shun resisor. The limiaion is based on he inernal hermal resisance and a maximum olerable heaing of 0 Kelvin. To ensure ha he limis are no exceeded a good hea dissipaion over he bus bar and he environmenal emperaure mus be provided. Noe: To ensure ha he measuremen limis are in he specified range, care has o be aken o he hermal connecion beween shun and busbar. In case of an inadequae shun o busbar connecion he sensor can possibly overhea due o he inernal power dissipaion. 4.5 Volage measuremen For an opimized adapion o he applicaion, here is he possibiliy o order he sensor wih one, wo or hree volage channels. Each channel is individually configurable and volage levels are measured wih reference o sensor ground. In every case, he firs channel is used for he power measuremen and has highes prioriy. 8 4.6 Communicaion inerface The IVT-MOD uses he sandard CAN.0 proocol. I is possible o order he sensor wih CAN erminaion (figure 8) or wihou CAN erminaion (figure 9), depending on he bus opology. 9 5. Measuremen descripion Depending on he seleced funcionaliy here are up o eigh measuremen oupu signals (able : lis of oupu signals). Every signal can be configured individually (oupu ransfer rae and value). Based on hese variaions a high number of applicaions are possible, i. e. a fas curren measuring as well as a complee filered measuring of all signals. Sampling raes Curren measuremen characerisics: One ADC channel is only used for he curren measuremen, wih a provided maximum oupu rae of ms. The use of higher sample inervals increases he accuracy of he measuremen. 13 5. Overcurren measuremen For overcurren condiions he exended measuremen range is used. As soon as he measured value exceeds he nominal range, he sysem swiches over o he exended measuremen range. The resoluion decreases by facor 8. Swiching back from he exended measuremen range o he nominal range akes place when he lowes value in his measuremen range is lower han 5 % of he nominal range. The exended measuremen range is wider han he nominal measuremen range by facor 8. For his reason, he IVT-MOD includes an inernal emperaure compensaion o provide an opimized resul in he complee defined emperaure range. 5.4 Plausibiliy check (funcional safey) Since here are wo independen ADC channels, he measured value from he firs ADC channel is compared wih he measured value from he second ADC channel. Boh channels are also compared wih he same bandgap ( ref ). Therefore a measuremen drif beween boh channels, as well as a drif in he bandgap, can be deeced. This plausibiliy check of he ADC provides a high reliabiliy of he sysem over ime and emperaure. 17 6.8 Bus bar connecion The accuracy and repeaabiliy of curren measuremen depends from he qualiy of he connecion beween cusomer s bus bar and he shun bus bar. To ensure a good and useful connecion beween cusomer s bus bar and he shun consider he following insrucions: Mouning he IVT-MOD on a bus bar is highly recommended (insead of mouning a cable ono he shun) Screwing he IVT-MOD on a bus bar by using all mouning holes, never use less han he available hole for screwing Always use screws wih an ouer diameer of 8 mm (M8), using smaller screws (e. g. M6 or M5) is NOT recommended Never use fla washers beween he bus bar and he shun! All screws using for mouning mus be ighened wih a orque as equal as possible!
