Wide range of available output voltage fits most of applications. Built-in output current-limiting most thermal-limiting provide maximal protection against any fault conditions. 6 R96/A Application Information A uf capacitor with 2mΩ or higher ESR, connecting between VOU and pins, is recommended for stability. A capacitor with ESR smaller than 2 mω may cause VOU oscillation as shown in Figure. Operating temperature should be well considered to ensure that the capacitance is no less than uf over the operating temperature range. Please take the notice that Aluminum electrolytic capacitors may cause VOU oscillation when operating below 25 C. he capacitance can be increased without limit for better transient response. A uf or higher capacitor should be placed between and to filter out input noise and ensure stable output voltage. For continuous operation, do not exceed absolute maximum operation junction temperature 25 C. he power dissipation definition in device is : P D = (V IN V OU ) x I OU + V IN x I Q Stable Instable Load Current (ma) he maximum power dissipation depends on the thermal resistance of IC package, PCB layout, the rate of surroundings airflow and temperature difference between junction to ambient. he maximum power dissipation can be calculated by following formula : P D(MAX) = ( J(MAX) A ) / θ JA Where J(MAX) is the maximum operation junction temperature 25 C, A is the ambient temperature and the θ JA is the junction to ambient thermal resistance. For recommended operating conditions specification of R96/A, where J(MAX) is the maximum junction temperature of the die (25 C) and A is the maximum ambient temperature. he junction to ambient thermal resistance θ JA is layout dependent. For SO-223 packages, the thermal resistance θ JA is 35 C/W on the standard JEDEC 5-3 single-layer S thermal test board. he maximum power dissipation at A = 25 C can be calculated by following formula : P D(MAX) = ( 25 C 25 C ) / 25 =.4 W for SO-23-3 packages P D(MAX) = ( 25 C 25 C ) / 75 =.57 W for SO-89 packages P D(MAX) = ( 25 C 25 C ) / 35 =.74 W for SO-223 packages P D(MAX) = ( 25 C 25 C ) / 6 =.625 W for O-92 packages he maximum power dissipation depends on operating ambient temperature for fixed J(MAX) and thermal resistance θ JA. For R96/A packages, the Figure 2 of derating curves allows the designer to see the effect of rising ambient temperature on the maximum power allowed.
