6 Instrument Set-up Chargng the L-Ion battery va USB Charge the battery before usng t for the frst tme. Use the provded cable to charge the battery. Plug the small end of the cable nto the port of the devce, and plug the end of the charger nto an electrcal socket. Select the approprate connector for your country. The devce cannot be used whle t s chargng. The computer can also be used to charge the devce, but ths takes more tme. If the devce s connected to the computer va USB cable, you can download or delete the gallery. It s not possble to upload any data. Charge batteres when battery symbol s flashng. Whle chargng, the devce may heat up. Ths s normal and should not affect the devce s lfespan or performance. If the battery gets hotter than 40 C / 104 F, the charger stops. At a recommended storage temperature of -20 C to +30 C (-4 F to +86 F), batteres contanng a 50% to 100% charge can be stored up to 1 year. After ths storage perod the batteres must be recharged. To save energy, unplug the charger when not n use. When you charge the battery, the followng cons show the status: Chargng Fully charged CAUTION Connectng the charger mproperly may cause serous damage to the devce. Any damage caused by msuse s not covered by the warranty. Use only Leca-approved chargers, batteres, and cables. Unapproved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the devce. 7 Instrument Set-up Usng the Smart Base Fold out Smart Base. Use t as mn trpod. Trpod or Adapter thread Unlock Lock Usng the Smart Base Extenson The Smart Base Extenson allows for stable targetng wthout unntentonally tltng the devce.. Do not move or tlt the Smartbase durng measurng. We recommend the use of a trpod wth the Leca FTA360-S adapter. Leca DISTO TM S b 6

8 Operatons Operatons Usng the Touch Screen Use only fngers to use the touch screen. Do not allow the touch screen to come nto contact wth other electrcal devces. Electrostatc dscharges can cause the touch screen to malfuncton. Do not allow the touch screen to contact water. The touch screen may malfuncton n humd condtons or when exposed to water. To avod damagng the touch screen, do not tap t wth anythng sharp or do not apply excessve pressure to t wth your fngertps. Tappng Draggng Tap on the dsplay to open an onscreen button or to make a selecton. Tappng on the con n the mddle of the bottom lne actvates the dstance measurement or trggers the camera. Drag on the dsplay to move to prevous or to next screen n the galere functon. Pnchng Instead of usng the touch screen, the normal keypad buttons can be used also. 9 Operatons Swtchng ON/OFF Clear Message Codes ON OFF 2 sec Devce s turned OFF. If no key s pressed for 180 sec, the devce swtches off automatcally. 1x Undo last acton. 2x Leave actual functon, go to default operaton mode. If the nfo con appears wth a number, observe the nstructons n secton "Message Codes". Example: Permanent / Mnmum-Maxmum measurng 1 2 sec 2 mn. max. Used to measure room dagonals (maxmum values) or horzontal dstance (mnmum values) The mnmum and maxmum dstance measured s dsplayed (mn, max.). The ntegrated pontfnder (vewscreen) shows the target on the dsplay. The devce measures n the mddle of the cross har, even f the laser dot s not vsble. Parallax errors occur when the pontfnder camera s used on close targets, wth the effect that the laser appears dsplaced n the crosshar. 13 Settngs Move Alert of Levellng Choose the senstvty of the levellng, whch s needed for some measurng functons. FINE means, that the levellng of the devce s senstve to any small vbratons. WLAN data transfer Only data from the functon Pont Data transmsson can be transferred wth WLAN. A correspondng program s needed to receve the data, e.g. DISTO transfer. For more detals, see our homepage. The effcent and nnovatve Bluetooth Smart module (wth the new Bluetooth standard V4.0) works together wth all Bluetooth Smart Ready devces. All other Bluetooth devces do not support the energy savng Bluetooth Smart Module, whch s ntegrated n the devce. We provde no warranty for free DISTO software and offer no support for t. Compass Adjustment Adjustng the magnetc declnaton Dependng on your geographc locaton, the angle of declnaton may vary from other locatons, as the geographc and magnetc poles are algned. However, f the reference locaton s not selected, the dfference n declnaton between the poles can dffer greatly. At the followng places the compass probably does not work correctly: Insde of buldngs If an error message occurs, the devce s tlted too much (>20 over the front / > 10 sdewse). Close to hgh voltage lnes (e.g. on tran platforms) Close to magnets, metal objects or electrcal household applances Keep the devce away from any magnet! Calbraton of Compass: The compass has to be calbrated before every frst measurement after swtchng on the devce. After 2 sec the devce goes back to the compass mode.
