12 Chaper Planning Repeaer Insallaion This chaper conains informaion ha will help you prepare for insalling he Micro 00-TX4 repeaer. This includes insallaion requiremens and sysem planning chars. Insallaion Requiremens To help ensure a correc insallaion, read his secion o deermine he environmenal, elecrical, spaial, and cable requiremens. Environmenal Requiremens Be sure he operaing environmen for he repeaer is wihin he following ranges: Temperaure: 3º o ºF (0º o 50ºC) Humidiy: 5% o 95% (non-condensing) Aliude: 0 o 0,000 fee (0 o 3 km) Clearance: minimum of inches (5. cenimeers) on each side of he repeaer for proper venilaion Elecrical Requiremens The elecrical requiremens for a Micro 00-TX4 repeaer are as follows: VAC Amps 00 VAC 40 VAC) Hz Cauion: The power oule mus be a non-swiched, hree-pronged, grounded oule. Do no use a hree-o-wo pronged adaper a he oule. Doing so may resul in elecrical shock and/or damage o he repeaer and will void your warrany. 13 Insallaion Requiremens Planning Repeaer Insallaion Spaial Requiremens The Micro 00-TX4 repeaer s dimensions are 3 inches (heigh) x 6.95 inches (widh) x 4 inches (deph). You can inerconnec wo Micro 00-TX4 repeaers. If here is no enough space o moun he repeaers in a single rack or sack hem on a single shelf, or if you wan o place he repeaers in differen locaions, you can place hem side by side on separae shelves or in separae racks. See Twised-Pair (UTP) Wire Requiremens for more informaion. Be sure o allow a leas inches (5. cenimeers) on each side of he repeaer for proper air circulaion and cable connecions. Twised-Pair (UTP) Wire Requiremens The wised-pair wiring you use o connec he repeaer s RJ-45 pors mus mee he following minimum specificaions and requiremens o ensure long-erm reliabiliy. The wiring mus be unshielded wised-pair (UTP) Caegory 5. Two pairs of he four-pair wiring are used for signalling. Depending on building codes, differen insulaion maerials may be required. Plenum-raed or TEFLON -coaed wiring may be required in some areas. The wire gauge should be beween 8 and 6 AWG. (Mos elephone insallaions use 4-gauge wiring.) Solid copper Insalling New Wire If you are insalling he repeaer where no wiring is presen, or if exising wiring does no mee he above specificaions, insall new wiring. The new wiring should conform o naional and local elecrical wiring code requiremens and mee he above specificaions. When insalling wire, i is a good idea o insall exra pairs of wire for fuure expansion. If you are unfamiliar wih wiring insallaion or he applicable local elecrical wiring code or he 00BASE-TX specificaion, you should have a professional, licensed (if applicable) insaller perform he insallaion. -

14 Planning Repeaer Insallaion Insallaion Requiremens Sraigh-hrough wised-pair cable is ypically used o connec a repeaer o a server or worksaion. 17 Chaper 3 Insalling he Repeaer This chaper explains how o moun he Micro 00-TX4 repeaer, aach cables, and inerconnec he repeaer o a second repeaer. Mouning he Repeaer You can place he Micro 00-TX4 repeaer on a level surface (able op or shelf, for example) or moun i in a sandard EIA 9-inch rack. Aaching he Rubber Fee If you will place he repeaer on a able op or shelf, aach he supplied adhesive-backed rubber fee as described in he following seps.. Turn he repeaer over so ha is boom side faces up.. Remove he four rubber fee from heir packaging. 3. Peel he proecive paper backing off he rubber fee. Then posiion he fee in he recessed areas near he corners of he repeaer and press he fee ino place. 4. Turn he repeaer o is uprigh posiion and place i on he mouning surface. Noe: Be sure you allow a leas inches on each side of he repeaer for proper air flow. 3 -

18 PWR A PWR B COL Mouning he Repeaer Insalling he Repeaer Rack-Mouning he Repeaer The Micro 00-TX4 occupies wo slos in a sandard, 9-inch rack. To moun he Micro 00-TX4 repeaer in a rack, use he supplied insallaion ki. This ki includes wo side mouning brackes, eigh bracke screws, and four larger rack-moun screws. To aach he brackes, follow hese seps:. Remove he wo screws from he lef and righ side of he repeaer. (These screws are exras and are no needed o insall he mouning brackes.). Posiion he bracke as shown in Figure 3-, and secure i wih he smaller bracke screws. Then aach he remaining bracke o he oher side of he repeaer. When you plug he power cable ino he power source, he PWR A LED lighs seady green. Noes: The power source should be near he repeaer and easily accessible. The Micro 00-TX4 repeaer has no power swich. Connecing he repeaer o he power source via he power cable s hree-pronged plug powers up he repeaer. Disconnecing Power To power down he repeaer, disconnec he power cord s hree-pronged connecor from he power source. The female power cable connecor is no a TUV-esed disconnec. Therefore, do no unplug he female connecor from he repeaer o power down he repeaer. Replacing he Power Supply The power supply s modular design makes he power supply easy o replace. If i is necessary o replace he power supply, follow he insrucions under Insalling a Redundan Power Supply Module. 3-5

22 Insalling a Redundan Power Supply Module Insalling he Repeaer Insalling a Redundan Power Supply Module The Micro 00-TX4 repeaer comes wih a pre-insalled, 90-wa power supply module (PWR A). You can insall an opional redundan power supply module (PWR B) for backup power. Conac your NeWorh reseller for informaion abou ordering an addiional power supply module. Follow hese seps o insall a redundan power supply module. Noe: You can insall he redundan power supply module while he main power supply module is powered on.. Remove he wo screws from he PWR B cover plae and remove he plae. Be sure you keep he cover plae and screws in case you need hem for fuure use.. Carefully inser he power supply module ino he opening unil is 0-pin connecor engages wih he inernal power connecor and he face of he module is flush wih he repeaer s back panel. 3. Plug he female IEC power cable connecor ino he connecor on he new power supply module. 5. Inser he power cable s hree-pronged plug ino a non-swiched, grounded power source (e.g., wall oule, power srip, or grounded exension cord). When you connec power, he PWR B LED indicaor lighs green o indicae ha he power supply module is insalled and funcioning correcly. Noe: If he power supply module does no have power or is no funcioning correcly, he PWR B LED indicaor lighs yellow. 3-6
