1 Alcatel 1926 SDH STM-16 / OC-48 SDH / SONET integrated modules Compact High Power DWDM Transmitter Description These transmitters are intended to be used in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM) at SDH and SONET bit rates. The modules are housed in a space-saving 24-pin package, providing the same electrical access for overall DWDM applications. These transmitter modules contain an in-house cooled DFB laser with a laser driver and temperature control loop. Selectable functions are provided as wavelength selection and reference clock for retiming. The Alcatel 1926 SDH family is a range of transmitter and receiver modules, providing convenient and flexible optical interfaces for SDH / SONET systems operating from 100 Mbit/s to 2.7 Gbit/s and exceeding the applicable ITU-T G.957, ITU-T G.783, ITU-T G.691, ITU-T G.692 and Telcordia GR-253-CORE standards. Upward compatibility is guaranteed between Alcatel 1926 SDH single channel and Alcatel 1926 SDH WDM multi-channel modules. Covering all types of SDH / SONET optical interfaces (tributaries and aggregates) the Alcatel 1900 SDH modules are suitable for line systems, local loop systems, Add Drop Multiplexers and digital cross-connects as well as ATM systems. As part of the global Alcatel 1900 SDH family, the Alcatel 1926 SDH WDM high optical power module is the first version for all types of DWDM STM-16 (Long-Haul and Ultra-Long-Haul) and DWDM OC-48 (Long- Reach and Ultra-Long-Reach) optical interfaces. 2 Absolute Maximum Ratings Exposing the device to stresses above those listed in absolute maximum rating could cause permanent damage. The device is not meant to operate under conditions outside the limits described in the operational sections of this specification. Exposure to absolute maximum rating conditions for extended periods may adversely affect device reliability. When low (or open) the nominal "n" ITU-T channel number is selected. When high the "n-1" ITU-T wavelength channel is selected. LDA Laser Degrade Alarm: TTL compatible output. When provided a digital alarm indicates that the laser is degraded. The active level is a low level. TDA Temperature Deviation Alarm: TTL compatible output. Digital alarm output indicating a temperature related wavelength shift from the center wavelength of a given ITU-T channel. A logical high level (activation) indicates a temperature deviation corresponding to a ± 100 pm wavelength shift. BACK(+) Back Facet Monitor: Analog output. Voltage proportional to the normalized monitoring PIN current depending on the optical output power. SDA Data I²C bus: TTL compatible input / output (for future use). SDC Clock I²C bus: TTL compatible input (for future use). NUC No User Connection. This lead must be left open. NIC No Internal Connection. May /6

5 Qualification and Reliability In order to secure all his customers, Alcatel Optronics launch a complete qualification program. This qualification is based on manufacturer s qualification in agreement with Telcordia GR-253-Core specification (Generic Reliability Assurance Requirements for Optoelectronic Devices Used In Telecommunications Equipment), MIL STD 883D, ITU-T G652, G.957, G.783, G-691, IEC68-2 and Telcordia TR-EOP either for external manufacturers or Alcatel Optronics. The qualification program is divided in two steps : In order to quickly qualify the main interfaces, a pre-qualification phase evaluates the level of robustness of SDH components and estimates the potential mechanical stress due to the mounting process of the different parts in the package. A qualification phase with complete functional tests before and after each reliability tests evaluates the reliability data on whole module. Device marking The device shall be legibly and permanently marked with the following information: Alcatel logo Product family name: A 1926 SDH Product code : 3CN number (see Ordering information section) Serial number Shipment packing Each device is individually packed in an anti-static container and in such a manner as to prevent damage in transit. Two devices can be delivered within the same packaging. This product is classified Class 3A Laser Product according to IEC LASER RADIATION AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM Class 3A laser product Handling This product is sensitive to electrostatic discharge and should not be handled except at a static free workstation. Take precautions to prevent ESD; use wrist straps, grounded work surfaces and recognized anti-static techniques when handling the Alcatel 1926 SDH module. Handle the laser module by its package only, never hold it by its pigtail. Care should be taken to avoid supply transient and over voltage. Over voltage above the maximum specified in absolute maximum rating section may cause permanent damage to the device.
