Primary Technical Data: Transmitter Operating voltage DC 24V Operating current. < 450mA Fuse 250V, 500mA Centre frequency /- 0.05MHz Modulation frequency..180hz, 172Hz, 160Hz or 150Hz (factory setting at 180Hz) Receiver Operating voltage.. DC 24V Operating current, stand-by < 300mA Operating current, operating.. < 400mA Fuse 250V, 500mA B. Step by Step Approach: General 1. Request for independent power supply for EAS usage. 2. Connect cable between antennas and test performance before affixing permanently. Often by moving the antenna a few 10~30cm may eliminate noise e.g. too close to metal wall. Sometimes, switching the position of Tx and Rx antennae may also improve operation. 3. Only the antenna wire needed to be grounded to the base of the antenna. Do not ground the power cable to the antenna as this will cause unnecessary interference. Tx antenna 1. This is the antenna with no LED at the base panel and no red light on top of the antenna. In multiple connection, must set one as Master and the rest as Slave. 2. Check that there are no interference along the power line and no hard tags or labels within close proximity of the antennae. 3. Normally no adjustments required on Tx but can check factory setting by using EG898 EAS Tester (if EAS Tester not available, see appendix 1for using oscilloscope):- The Tester will only work on Transmission antenna. Place the Tester as shown and press button. Three readings will show:- Fc (center of frequency) should read 8.15~8.25MHz Fs (modulation frequency) should read 180Hz Sw (sweep frequency) should read 1000k +/- 50

4. If there are high interference (refer to Rx antenna) and hard tags only are used, may adjust VR14 anti-clockwise to reduce f to 700. Note: in no circumstances should this be less than 700. 5.

2 4. If there are high interference (refer to Rx antenna) and hard tags only are used, may adjust VR14 anti-clockwise to reduce f to 700. Note: in no circumstances should this be less than Fine tune Fc (center of frequency) by adjusting VR15, normally, this would not be required. 6. If there are other 8.2MHz system within 20m and synchronization is not possible, it will be necessary to change modulation frequency to 150Hz to avoid interference between systems. Modulation frequency at Rx board must also adjust to the same frequency. i. There are four jumpers with corresponding modulation frequency written on it. ii. Factory setting is at 180Hz on the far right. iii. 150Hz is on the far left. VR15 JP1 TP4, GND3 VR14 7. If there are systems very close to each other (next door) and cannot be synchronized, it will be necessary to change Fc to 9.5MHz or 10MHz to avoid interference. Follow the instructions on the board in jumpers JP4 and JP9. Note setting in EG3355 is different to other models. After changing, the Fc reading in the Tester will also change. Instructions JP4 and JP9 jumpers TP6 and GND2 8. However, with this change, it is also necessary to change hard tags/labels from 8.2 to 9.5 or 10MHz.

Rx antenna 1. Receiver Antenna (with red light on top of the antenna). Green lights: DS1, DS2 and DS3 Red lights: alarm 2. Check lights on DS1, DS2 and DS3. (i) No lights indicate best condition.

(iii) If all DS1, DS2 and DS3 lit up, strong interference. If after turning VR1 more than 5 turns and no improvement on DS lights, then must consider other solutions. 3.

3 Rx antenna 1. Receiver Antenna (with red light on top of the antenna). Green lights: DS1, DS2 and DS3 Red lights: alarm 2. Check lights on DS1, DS2 and DS3. (i) No lights indicate best condition. (ii) If DS1 light flashes only, the system can still operate properly. (iii) If DS2 light lit up, turn VR1 anti-clockwise to until only DS1 light flashes. (iii) If all DS1, DS2 and DS3 lit up, strong interference. If after turning VR1 more than 5 turns and no improvement on DS lights, then must consider other solutions. 3. Other solutions, refer to steps in 3, 4, 5 and 6 in Tx Antenna section. 4. Ensure the SW1-2 and SW1-3 switches matches the modulation frequency set up in the Tx board. At factory setting of 180Hz, the SW1-2 and SW1-3 position is in ON. See instruction printed in the Rx board and as shown below:- 5. If there are occasional false alarms, may reduce the sensitivity of the system by adjusting SW1-4 and SW1-5 as shown above. 6. After changes made to SW, must press RESET.

4 7. Other functions: RF Labels and Hard Tags Selector Labels generally has a lower Q factor than hard tags thus if only hard tags are used, the system can be adjusted to increase its detection rate. SW1-1 ON Labels and Hard tags SW1-1 OFF Hard tags only (factory setting) Timing of Alarm and Warning Light Adjust VR2 (clockwise to extend, anti-clockwise to reduce) for alarm and light on time varying 1~4 seconds. JP3 1&2 Alarm and light on/off simultaneously JP3 2&3 Light will remain on for 2~3 seconds after alarm Alarm Volume Control Turn VR4 clockwise to increase loudness of alarm. Turn VR4 anti-clockwise to decrease loudness of alarm. VR4 is positioned below VR2 towards the bottom left hand corner of the Receiver Board. C. Trouble shooting High Interference If there were high interference, the system will shut itself off to avoid false alarm. To ensure the system will operate well, must try and eliminate obvious cause of interference. Then, follow the below instructions:- 1. In Tx, adjust VR14 until Sw reads 700 ~ In Rx, change jumper in JP1, moving one slot to the right i.e. from position 1/2 to 2/3. This is the case when there is high noise interference and detection distance is more than 1.5m. 3. In Rx, change jumper in JP2, moving one slot left i.e. from position 2/3 to ½. This is to eliminate the self-locking function at high noise interference. 4. In Rx, adjust VR1 until only DS1 light flashes. 5. In Rx, select SW1-4 to ON and SW1-5 to OFF. 6. Press RESET. If there is large metal objects close-by, may see if grounding it to the Rx antenna base labeled GND at P1 (connecting with wire) will improve interference. If no improvement, remove this grounding.

D. Multiple Connection: In multiple connection, JP2 and JP3 in the Master Tx Board should be set in position 1&2 (M) while P3 and P4 are the output connectors for multiple connections.

In the Slave Tx Board, JP2 and JP3 should be set in position 2&3 (S) and P2 is for input while P3 and P4 are for output. See figure 1. There are power in both Tx and Rx boards. If not check power supply and fuse in each Tx and Rx PCB. Replace fuse if necessary. 3. Check settings in Tx PCB using EAS Tester. 4. Ensure Fc, Fs and Sw readings are correct. Reduce Sw if there are high interference. 5. Ensure modulation frequency setting in Rx is same as that is Tx. 6. Adjust VR1 in Rx until only DS1 light flashes. 7. Press RESET in Rx after each change of SW switches.

7 Appendix 1 Transmitter PCB Checking Fc (center of frequency) using oscilloscope Connect oscilloscope probe to TP6 with grounding at GND2. Tune VR15 for adjustment. Checking Sw (sweep frequency) using oscilloscope 1. Disconnect antenna wire at P5. 2. Reset JP1 from 1&2 position to 2 &3. 3. Connect oscilloscope probe to TP4 with grounding at GND3. Tune VR14 for adjustment. Reading in oscilloscope of 0.65Vp-p is equivalent to 1000k. Reading in oscilloscope of 0.40Vp-p is equivalent to 700k. The system will not function if readying is lower than 0.40Vp-p. 4. Reset JP1 to position 1&2. 5. Reconnect antenna wire at P5.
