EMC aspects associated to 5G networks ETSI TC-EE/ITU-T SG5 Workshop on Towards Setting Environmental Requirements for 5G Beniamino Gorini

Outline 1. Scenario of present EMC requirements 2. Gaps in respect to 5G scenario 3. Setting EMC requirements for 5G deployment: ITU-T K-Supplement 4. Future work 5. Conclusions Background slide: references 2

Electromagnetic Compatibility scenario Ensure operation of radio services o Disturbance emissions from various products/systems Ensure operation of various products/systems in specified EM environment o Immunity against various phenomena including radiation from radio Tx Wanted signal Radio spurious Mobile service Broadcast receivers Broadcast transmitters Mobile terminals 3 Telecom equipment/networks Disturbances

Present Electromagnetic Compatibility requirements (1/4) EM compability level among various devices and networks ensured by each device shall not generate disturbances above a defined level devices shall have a minimum immunity level from disturbances Emission requirements for disturbances based on limits defined by CISPR generic emission requirements defined in o IEC residential, commercial and light industrial environments o IEC industrial environments Immunity requirements against disturbances Based on electromagnetic environmental classification given in IEC Generic immunity requirements defined in: o IEC residential, commercial and light industrial environments o IEC industrial environments 4

Present Electromagnetic Compatibility requirements (2/4) Which standards should considered as basic reference for 5G deployments? IEC Generic standards? CISPR product standards for Information Communication Technology (ICT)? ETSI EMC standards for radio equipment? ITU-T K-EMC recommendations? CISPR product standards for ICT should be the basic reference but o CISPR 32 Emission requirements for Multimedia equipment (including ITE) o CISPR 35 Immunity requirements for Multimedia equipment (including ITE) with adjustments to address the 5G systems 5

Present Electromagnetic Compatibility requirements (3/4) (if metallic shield is present) Emission requirements in CISPR 32 EUT Optical fibre port AC mains power port RF modulator output port Enclosure port DC network power port (for broadcast receivers) Broadcast receiver tuner port Not defined Antenna < 6GHz Wired network port (for broadcast receivers) Antenna port Signal/control port IEC Not applicable 6

Present Electromagnetic Compatibility requirements (4/4) (if metallic shield is present) Immunity requirements in CISPR 35 (lower than Generic std) Optical fibre port EUT AC mains power port RF modulator output port Enclosure port DC network power port (for broadcast receivers) Broadcast receiver tuner port Antenna < 6 GHz Wired network port (for broadcast receivers) Antenna port Signal/control port (lower than Generic std) IEC 7

What is required in EMC standards for the deployment of 5G? Products, other than 5G radio devices (*), should have emission requirements in the frequency range utilized by 5G systems to avoid interferences with 5G networks Products, including 5G devices, should have immunity requirements in the frequency range of 5G networks to allow the correct operation with 5G networks Already defined EMC requirements should also apply (*) Note: Radio spurious emissions are covered by ITU-R recommendations 8

Gaps in respect to present EMC standards (1/2) Radiated emission requirements in generic and product standards do not cover the entire frequency band planned for 5G systems; Evolution of radiated emission limits in CISPR standards Since more than 40 years From 2005 on ITE (a) Only for ISM devices (b)? No CISPR limits 30 MHz 1 GHz 6 GHz 18 GHz (only FCC) (a) Information Technology Equipment limits in CISPR 22 (b) Industrial Scientific and Medical devices in CISPR 11 Conducted emission requirements for DC power ports o o Not defined in the CISPR 32 for multimedia equipment but in the IEC generic emission standards and in the EMC standards for radio and telecommunication equipment: ITU-T K.48], ETSI EN and ETSI EN

Gaps in respect to present EMC standards (2/2) Radiated immunity requirements in generic and product standards stops at 6 GHz or at lower fequencies; not enough to avoid disturbances on circuits/devices with frequency clocks higher than 6 GHz Evolution of radiated immunity frequency range in IEC Generic standards Since more than 40 years From 2005 From 2016? 30 MHz/80 MHz 1 GHz 2, 7 GHz 6 GHz Conducted Radio Frequency immunity o Level in CISPR 35 for multimedia equipment lower than IEC generic immunity standards and in EMC standards for radio and telecommunication equipment: ITU-T K.48, ETSI EN and ETSI EN Surge immunity for ports intended for connecting indoor cables o Not defined in CISPR 35 for multimedia equipment but included in EMC standards for radio and telecommunication equipment: ITU-T K.48], ETSI EN and ETSI EN

Setting EMC requirements for 5G deployment The coexistence of 5G networks with other devices and wired telecommunication requires present EMC emission standards should be amended to reduce disturbances to 5G receivers EMC immunity standards should be also revised to allow the correct operation of devices when subjected to RF radiation from 5G transmitters. 11

Proposed EMC requirements for 5G deployment (1/2) Same as CISPR 32 (if metallic shield is present) Optical fibre port Emission requirements EUT AC mains power port Same as CISPR 32 RF modulator output port Enclosure port DC network power port Only applicable to broadcast receivers as per CISPR Broadcast receiver tuner port Antenna 30 MHz 6 GHz same as CISPR 32 6 GHz 40 GHz same as FCC limits 40 GHz 100 GHz to be defined Antenna port Wired network port Signal/control port IEC Same as ETSI EN Same as CISPR 32 Not applicable

Proposed EMC requirements for 5G deployment (2/2) Same as ETSI EN (if metallic shield is present) Optical fibre port RF modulator output port Broadcast receiver tuner port Only applicable to broadcast receivers as per CISPR 35 Antenna Immunity requirements EUT Enclosure port 30 MHz 6 GHz same as ETSI EN GHz 18 GHz: 3 V/m for all products and 10 V/m for TLC equipment > 18 GHz not required AC mains power port DC network power port Wired network port Same as ETSI EN Same as ETSI EN but Surge as per ETSI EN Signal/control port Same as ETSI EN IEC 13 Antenna port

Recommendation for future work These preliminary requirements shall be revised considering: 5G specifications when published Radiated emission limits above 6 GHz in definition by CISPR (if different from the limits proposed in ITU-T K-Supplement) Possibility to define single radiated emission limits for radio spurious emissions and non-radio devices (to be co-ordinated with ITU-R) Radiated immunity requirements that might be identified when 5G specification are published Specific test setups and performance criteria for 5G systems 14

Conclusions Present EMC standards do not ensure smooth deployment of 5G systems EMC standards for radio and telecommunication equipment should be revised to address 5G protection Present Generic emission and immunity standards should be also revised to address 5G deployment Where applicable, EMC product standards should be also revised to avoid interference with 5G systems The preliminary requirements recommended in ITU-T K-Supplement of EMC requirements for 5G networks shall be revised: o o when 5G specifications are published Considering the work performed in other standardization organizations 15
