1 ELECTRICAL TESTING PLANS AND PROCEDURES FOR TRANSFORMERS-DRY TYPE, AIR-COOLED Bergelectric to test transformer feeder circuits with leads disconnected. o Visually inspection of all wiring and cabling, numbering and tagging will take place while continuity testing is performed. Perform continuity test to insure proper cable connections. o Compare equipment nameplates with the contract documents. o Continuity testing will require two electricians, a calibrated multimeter or a set of phones or a tone and probe kit. This process will require approximately 3 minutes per cable. o Insulation resistance (Megger) testing of feeders will require two electricians, a calibrated megger and require approximately 3 minutes per cable. Testing shall be for one minute using 1000 Vdc. After the above forms have been filled out and sign-off by a representative from OCSD, Bergelectric will visual inspect nameplate information, inspect for physical damage, and check for proper grounding. o Bergelectric / OCSD will provide needed temporary circuits of 480vAC - 100A, 240vAC 50A and a 120vAC 20A for the required NETA testing by Power Testing and Energization. o All cables will be terminated per the manufactures recommendation and recorded on a torque test field report. This process will require one electrician, a calibrated torque wrench and approximately 10 minutes per cable.
2 Power Testing and Energization will provide NETA testing per plans and spec. Power Testing and Energization shall perform all inspection and test, including all optional tests, listed in sections or of NETA on all dry type transformers. TRANSFORMERS-DRY TYPE, AIR-COOLED, LARGE (Larger than 100 kva single-phase or 300 kva three-phase) Visual and Mechanical Inspection o Compare equipment nameplate information with single-line diagram. o Inspect impact recorder prior to unloading transformer if applicable. o Verify removal of any shipping bracing after final placement. o Verify proper auxiliary device operation. o Perform specific inspections and mechanical tests as recommended by manufacturer. o Verify proper equipment grounding. Electrical Tests o Perform insulation-resistance tests, winding-to-winding, and windings-to-ground, utilizing a megohmmeter with test voltage output. Test duration shall be for 10 minutes with resistance s tabulated at 30 seconds, 1 minute, and 10 minutes. Calculate dielectric absorption ratio and polarization index. o Perform a turns-ratio test between windings at all tap positions. The final tap setting is to be determined by the owner/user's electrical engineer and set by the testing firm. o Perform insulation power-factor tests or dissipation-factor tests on all windings and bushings. Determine overall dielectricloss and power factor (CH, CL, and CHL). Test voltages
3 should be limited to the line-to-ground voltage rating of the transformer winding. o Perform individual excitation current tests on each phase. o Perform winding-resistance tests on each winding in final tap position. o Perform tests and adjustments on fan controls and alarm functions. o Verify proper secondary voltage phase-to-phase and phase-toneutral after energization and prior to loading. TRANSFORMERS, DRY TYPE, AIR-COOLED, LOW VOLTAGE, SMALL (NOTE: This category consists of power transformers with windings rated 600 volts or less and sizes equal to or less than 167 kva single-phase or 500 kva three-phase). Visual and Mechanical Inspection o Compare equipment nameplate information with single-line diagram. o Verify removal of any shipping bracing after final placement. o Verify proper auxiliary device operation. o Perform specific inspections and mechanical tests as recommended by manufacturer. o Verify proper equipment grounding. Electrical Tests o Perform insulation-resistance tests, winding-to-winding, and windings-to-ground, utilizing a megohmmeter with test
4 voltage output. Test duration shall be for 10 minutes with resistance s tabulated at 30 seconds, 1 minute, and 10 minutes. Calculate dielectric absorption ratio and polarization index. o Perform a turns-ratio test between windings at all tap positions. The final tap setting is to be determined by the owner/user's electrical engineer and set by the testing firm. o Verify proper secondary voltage phase-to-phase and phaseto-neutral after energization and prior to loading. Attached is a list of Bergelectric testing equipment that is calibrated prior to arriving on the job site.
