Sheet 14 of Ground Pre-test at the site Be sure to fully charge a PAC-I unit before heading out to the site. Even though, you perform Warehouse Pre-test thoroughly, anything happens possibly in real world and you may find an antenna that is not functioning correctly or doesn t meet requirement or has missing parts, etc. KMW strongly recommends that you always bring a spare antenna kit when you go to the site. It will save a trip back to warehouse to get a new one and help you to install KMW product correctly using genuine parts provided by KMW. Ground Pre-test procedure is necessary to make sure that the antenna is functioning correctly as expected and meet the all specification required before raising to the antenna installation location, either building mount or tower mount. Once it is installed at the site, it will take much time and effort and money to replace, be sure to follow procedure carefully. For Ground Pre-test, steps 4.7 to 4.10 stated previously are required to perform again. You may put clean white fabric or plastic sheet on the ground first and perform the task in order to avoid losing parts or dust contact. You may set initial antenna downtilt and azimuth instructed by local RF engineer as they design the site. A sample antenna installation worksheet is attached below for your reference only and it can be customized per each market. These are required equipment and tools. - KMW Programmable Antenna - PAC-I unit and accessories (Portable Antenna Controller for DC Pulse control antennas) - Anritsu SiteMaster or equivalent test equipment - Cables and connectors required by test equipment - Clean white fabric or plastic sheet (Approx. 10 x10 ) - Utility knife - Work gloves Sample Antenna Installa Don t forget to fix connector weather proofing caps before raising the antenna to the tower or building.
Sheet 15 of Antenna Installation You may install antenna mounting brackets before raising antenna to the top of tower or installing to antenna mounting pole for easy and safe installation. These items are required or helpful when you assemble KMW antenna products and test at the site. Be sure to fully charge PAC-I and load with the latest software before heading to the site. Refer to user manual for upgrading PAC-I software. - KMW Programmable Antenna - PAC-I unit and accessories (Portable Antenna Controller for DC Pulse control antennas) - Anritsu SiteMaster or equivalent test equipment - Cables and connectors required by test equipment - Utility knife - Work gloves - Monkey spanner - 6mm Hex wrench - Color coding tapes - Compass - Digital Inclinometer - Weather proofing kits - Other antenna installation tools required by industry Mechanical downtilt bracket is also available as an option. For further information, you can contact KMW customer service at or info@kmwcomm.com. 6.1 Be sure to wear proper work gloves to protect your hands before proceed. 6.2 Assemble two pieces of M10 Hex bolts with a down part of clamp which has recessed hex mark as shown in the picture below and close with two M10 Hex nuts. Old model may not have recessed hex mark. 6.3 Remove M8 nuts if M8 socket head bolts come with them. It is just for protection from loosing washers and you don t need them for mounting clamp assembly. Using two M8 socket head bolts with a flat washer first and a spring washer together per each bolt, assemble the unit from Step 1 to upper part of antenna at pre holed locations. You need to use 6mm Hex wrench to do this step and Hex wrench is not provided with antenna kit and
Sheet 16 of you should bring it to the site for installation. You need to loose the first bolt so you can adjust and fit the second bolt to the hole easily. Make sure to tighten the bolts before proceed to the next step. Minimum torque requirement of M8 head bolts is 104 in. lbf. 6.4 Assemble closing part of clamp and spring washer first and flat washer followed by two M10 nuts per each bolt. You may not tight nuts yet since you may want to slide this side of mounting clamp through top of mounting pole. Figure 6-1. Top portion of antenna mounting bracket assembly 6.5 Follow from Step 1 to 3 again for assembling an antenna mounting clamp to lower part of antenna at pre holed locations except assembling closing part of clamp. You may assemble just one side, not both for still securing parts and installing antenna little easier. See below pictures for details. Figure 6-2. Lower portion of antenna mounting bracket assembly
Sheet 17 of As you notice, KMW antenna mounting positions are designed at each end of antenna because of supporting beam steering feature. High gain antenna which has longer antenna length may require replacing antenna mounting pole with longer ones. Replace antenna mounting poles first if needed before bringing assembled antenna to the mounting location. 6.7 Bring the assembled antenna to installation locations, either top of tower or building, following proper procedure specified industry guideline. Most of antenna physical damage is happening while rigging the antenna to the tower. Proper handling and rigging techniques and equipment are required in order for not damaging antenna while bring it to installation location. There should be at least two or more antenna crew to install and test KMW antenna at the site. Antenna crew should try their best not to let the antenna hit the tower or other structures that possibly damages antenna physically. All safety procedures and measures required by industry should be taken properly while working at cell sites all times. KMW is not writing installation safety requirements for antenna installation industry and is not responsible for any accidents or damages happened while installing KMW antenna products. RF radiation may harm your health and may not expose yourself direct radiation in front of antenna. Be sure to turn off RF power before climbing the tower and working near the antennas. For further information, you may check FCC web site, or related web sites for MPE (Maximum Permissible Exposure) level.
Sheet 18 of Figure 6-3. Antenna rigging guideline 6.8 Install the antenna to antenna mounting pole using top first and fix the lower clamp later usually for easier installation. You may fix the lower clamp first in certain circumstance but it is not recommended in most of cases. 6.9 Set physical azimuth as required by engineering design. If equipped and required, set antenna physical downtilt also. You need to have a compass and a digital inclinometer to perform this task. You should use minimum torque of 208 in. lbf to fix M10 Hex nuts using a monkey spanner or a 16 mm spanner If you replaced antenna mounting pole, you need to reconnect the ground cable per your engineering standard requirement. Figure 6-4. Antenna installation pictures (Shown TriPhase antenna with optional downtilt bracket) If you are not using existing jumper cables, and then replace them with new ones and connect to feeder lines At the ground, run sweep tests following sweep test guideline your company may have, to make sure that all transmission system such as jumpers, connectors are meeting required
Sheet 19 of standards. Anritsu SiteMaster or equivalent test equipment may be used for this task. You may run measurement of Return loss, Insertion loss and DTF (Distance to Fault) before connecting antennas. Refer to your test equipment (Anritsu SiteMaster or equivalent) user manual and your company s sweep test guidelines for test methods and procedures. If any of tests doesn t meet your requirements due to any component failure through transmission line, fix or replace failed parts and run the test again Connect top jumpers to antenna and run system sweep test again to make sure total system sweep also meet your company sweep test guideline and specs. Be sure to connect to right feeder lines. Connecting cable incorrectly results in improper operation of network and causing network performance degradation. Even though, all components along the line meet their specs but still fail to meet your total system sweep guide, you may replace one by one until it meets your expectation If KMW antenna is failing to meet the spec, replace with other antennas by following step 1 to step 13 again. For those failed unit, contact KMW technical support team for failure verification and initiate RMA process if required.
