3 Emission Patterns AudioLink PRO M110 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on choosing the AudioLink PRO M110 infrared transmitter/ emitter as part of your assistive listening or public address system. Used with personal infrared receivers, the M110 transmitter offers clear, distinct sound in most listening environments. It can be used at lectures, conferences, screening rooms, and in many other business and social situations. 95 or 250 KHz Coverage area approximately 3,300 sq. ft. ( 313 sq. m.) The M110 transmitter is portable, can be installed easily and requires no special expertise to use. Listeners may choose from a variety of personal infrared receivers to use with the M110 transmitter. Whether listeners wear hearing aids or not, there are appropriate receivers to serve their needs. For more information on receivers, please see pages 9 and 10. Infrared light is like light from a lamp, but it is invisible to the eye. The M110 transmitter converts sound into infrared light and broadcasts this light within the room. Infrared receivers that convert the infrared light back into amplified sound are worn by listeners. The amplified sound is made audible through earphones or through the listener s hearing aid. Like visible light, infrared light can be blocked by walls, doors or other obstacles. For this reason, there must be a clear line of sight between the M110 transmitter and the receivers worn by listeners The AudioLink PRO M110 system offers both portability and versatility. For small rooms one M110 transmitter will be sufficient. For medium and large rooms one M110 transmitter can be used with any number of REPEATER emitters. This provides installers and service providers with great flexibility at a minimum cost. 2.3 or 2.8 MHz Coverage area approximately 2,200 sq. ft. ( 208 sq. m.) - Page 14 - This manual will help you get the maximum benefit from the M110 transmitter. Please read the instructions carefully. - Page 3 -

5 AudioLink PRO M Ensure that your receiver is operating properly (see the receiver's owner manual). 4. Ensure that the frequency setting of your IR Receiver matches that of the M110 transmitter. 5. Sunlight can overpower the M110 transmitter signal. Close the blinds, or move to a sufficiently shaded room. 6. If you have a hearing aid with a T-switch, you may be picking up magnetic interference. Check for nearby magnetic sources including televisions, computer monitors, and fluorescent lights by listening only through your T-switch (ie. without the IR receiver turned on). Either move further away from them, or turn them off. 7. Ensure that no other infrared devices are operating in the same room at the same frequency. 8. If the Overdrive Light is ON then the level of an input is too high- turn it down at the source. The audio level adjustment can also be used on the bottom of the panel. IF YOU CANNOT HEAR ANYTHING: 1. Ensure all the INPUT connections are secure. 2. With some receivers you will hear no sound when you are too far from or not facing towards the M110 transmitter. Correct the situation. Make sure that you are within range and that the front of the IR receiver is facing the M110 transmitter. 3. Ensure input devices (eg. VCR, microphone) are working properly 4. Check the operating frequency. * If None of the Above Seem to Help, Contact Your Dealer. UNPACKING The AudioLink PRO M110 package consists of the following items: AudioLink PRO M110 transmitter AC Adapter (24 VAC ) Power cord with terminal block Mounting bracket Instruction Manual Unpack all components carefully. If any component is missing or visibly damaged, please contact the shipper or supplier who sold you the unit. MOUNTING OF M110 TRANSMITTER The M110 transmitter is equipped with 1/4 threaded mounting holes on the bottom and also comes with a mounting bracket. The transmitter can be mounted in different ways: Fig. 1- From the bottom (on a portable stand or mounting) Fig. 2- From the top (on a wall or ceiling bracket with the mounting bracket) Fig. 3- From the back (with the mounting bracket) Fig. 4- An array of transmitters can assembled with the mounting bracket. 6 AudioLink PRO M110 OPERATION OF THE M100 TRANSMITTER SINGLE TRANSMITTER APPLICATION Place the AudioLink PRO M110 transmitter on a flat surface (eg. a table or a speaker enclosure), or mount it on a tripod or stand for portable, temporary use. Use the mounting bracket for permanent installations. Make sure that the M110 transmitter is facing the listeners. Set the mode switches for IR frequency desired: 95 KHz 250 KHz 2.3 MHz 2.8 MHz Connect to desired input on the M110 transmitter. The XLR Input and Line Level Input may be used concurrently: XLR INPUT: Set the mode switch for desired audio level: XLR LINE LEVEL ( 0 dbv) XLR MIC LEVEL (-50 dbv) Most microphones with a suitable plug or adapter will work. The transmitter will provide phantom power of 12V for one condenser or electret microphone element. LINE LEVEL INPUT (-10 dbv): Connect an audio source (PA system, Mic. Mixer) to 3 pole terminal block. A tape deck, TV set, or VCR audio source can be connected using the RCA jack. Note: Do not use both terminal block & RCA inputs at the same time or impedance mismatch will occur. Connect the M110 transmitter into any standard 110V electrical outlet through the AC adapter included with the transmitter. Use ONLY the AC adapter supplied by ELT Group, as a different adapter can damage the device. Once plugged in, the unit is ON (indicated by power LED) TAKING CARE OF THE M110 TRANSMITTER The AudioLink PRO M110 transmitter is rugged, and requires no special care apart from common sense. The M110 transmitter should be treated like any other electronic product. Do not shake, bump, or drop it, and do not expose it to water. Use a clean, dry cloth to clean the M110 transmitter. Do not use solvents or cleaners on any part. DO NOT use a different AC adapter with the M110 transmitter as this may damage the unit. TROUBLE SHOOTING IF YOU HEAR STATIC OR POOR QUALITY SOUND: The Power and Transmit Lights are OFF 1. Check that the AC adapter is plug securely in the wall socket and the M110 transmitter. 2. Check that there is power to the wall socket. 3. If none of the above help, forward the transmitter to an authorized service centre. The Power Light is ON, but the Transmit Light is OFF 1. Ensure all INPUT connections are secure. 2. Ensure the operating levels of the INPUTs are with the minimum range (see SPECIFICATIONS). 3. Ensure that the mode switches are set for desired mode of operation. The Power and Transmit Lights are ON 1. Ensure that the front of the IR receiver is pointing towards the M110 transmitter, and that nothing is blocking the path between the transmitter and the receiver. 2. Check that the batteries in your receiver are sufficiently charged. - Page Page 11 -
7 RECEIVER USAGE CHART If you have no hearing aid or if you are not hard of hearing "in the canal" hearing aid(s) without a "Tswitch" You may use one of the Infrared Receiver styles stethoscope style style stethoscope style AudioLink PRO M110 With one of the accessory options none needed headset headphones earbuds none needed There is no ON/OFF switch. If the room is quiet for more than 15 minutes, the M110 transmitter will go into an energy-saving mode to conserve electricity. Within two to three seconds of someone speaking or receiving input through either the LINE or XLR INPUTS, the M110 transmitter will return. to normal operation. ADJUSTMENT OF AUDIO LEVEL The M110 transmitter has been set for a standard setting. If the overdrive LED lights, the audio level can be decreased as shown in the diagram. If the audio volume is too low, the level can also be increased as shown in the diagram. - + style headset headphones earbuds "in the ear" hearing aid(s) without a "Tswitch" style (Note 1 ) headset headphones "in the ear" or "in the canal" hearing aid(s) with a "T-switch" style (Note 1) neckloop HOW TO USE THE M110 AS A REPEATER OR EMITTER "behind the ear" hearing aid(s) without a "T-switch" style (Note 1) headphones The AudioLink PRO M110 can also be configured as an infrared repeater by changing the setting on the mode switch. This makes the M110 transmitter very flexible and suitable for various applications. If the large room installation is required only occasionally, the four transmitters can be moved from the smaller rooms when needed. - Page 7 -
8 MULTIPLE EMITTER APPLICATION AudioLink PRO M110 Set up M110 transmitter in accordance with Single Transmitter Application. Run a RG-58 cable (part # ELT-CABL-0001) from the BASEBAND OUT of the M110 to the input of the first emitter. If you are using more than one emitter, connect each another RG-58 cable from the OUTPUT to the INPUT of the next emitter Connect as many emitters as required for your application. Both the frequency and the input selections of all emitters will be controlled by the M110 transmitter. Plug AC adapter into the REPEATER PANEL(s) and into a 110V wall socket. INFRARED RECEIVERS Different people have different listening needs. The type of infrared receiver and how listeners will connect to them depends on their specific requirements. Please refer to the following chart to determine which receiver and listening choices are most suitable for listeners with no hearing aids and with different hearing aid types. For operation of the receivers, please refer to the appropriate owner's manual. People using unfamiliar receivers may require instruction on their operation. Note that receiver batteries must be fully charged prior to use. Refer to the receiver s owner s manual for instructions. TO SET UP: LISTENING WITH THE M110 TRANS- MITTER AND AN INFRARED RECEIVER 1. The first and main transmitter in the chain is the M110. Switch it the MAIN MODE setting and follow the instructions for SINGLE TRANSMITTER APPLICATION on page Switch the remaining transmitters to REPEATER MODE. A true REPEATER (R400) may be combined in the chain with transmitters switched to operate in REPEATER mode. Note: M110 transmitters set to REPEATER mode can used as emitters as well. Put on your receiver. If your receiver is equipped with connecting or listening accessories, connect them and place them in the listening position appropriate for you. Whether you use a hearing aid or not, there is a connecting or listening accessory that is suitable for your needs. Please ask for guidance on choosing the receiver and connecting accessories which are best for you. The lens on the receiver must face towards the Audio- Link Pro Panel. Remember, infrared light can be blocked, so make sure that there are no obstacles in the path between the AudioLink Pro Panel and your receiver. If the light path is interrupted, you may hear static instead of clear sound. Turn on the receiver and adjust the volume. After use, turn your receiver off. - Page Page 9 -
