Specification of Requirements Request for tenders for antenna systems for Aalborg University Side 1
1. Introduction The Department of Electronic Systems represents one of the areas of research of Aalborg University (AAU), recognised at a high international level. The antenna research area, in particular, has been successful for many years. AAU has decided to strengthen the research area with new facilities by establishing a new shielded anechoic chamber with facilities to open roof and gable in order to perform antenna measurements from drones and satellites. The future prospect is to establish an arc, with a radius of 100 m, from which antenna measurements can be performed. A new building is under construction, and the shielded rooms with absorbers will be mounted in the spring of The scope of this tender is to establish a measurement system for antennas and Over The Air (OTA) test of wireless devices. 2. The facility The facility consist of an instrument room (marked with green) and two radio anechoic chambers: A large room 10 m x 10 m x 14 m (Antenna room) marked with Red A small chamber 5 m x 5 m x 5 m (OTA Chamber) marked with Blue Side 2
Nor t h 14m 10m 5m In the Antenna room, the basic measurement capabilities are: Long range antenna measurement of about 11 m. Gantry arm measurement with a turntable. Open chamber measurements (not considered here). In the OTA chamber the basic measurement capabilities are: Antenna measurements with a vertical ring of probe antennas. SISO OTA measurements. MIMO OTA measurements with a horizontal ring of probe antennas. Address of the construction site is: Selma Lagerløfs Vej Aalborg Ø Denmark Side 3
3. The Antenna room 3.1 General The supplier will be fully responsible for the design of the deliverables. All the drawings provided of the Antenna room are sketches only. Drawings of the building show the inner room boundaries for the shielding and absorbers, and these drawings are provided for the supplier s further use. When the solution has been completed, the supplier must prepare and submit working drawings for approval. The supplier must ensure that the construction site is in order during the workday, both inside and outside, and the supplier must clean up after its own work by the end of the day. The supplier must bring the scaffolding/lifts necessary for its own work. As part of the project, the supplier must provide the Contracting Entity with operation and maintenance information on the project delivered. The supplier must take part in necessary meetings to define project details. The task is to implement a complete antenna measurement facility. Everything must be supplied with full technical documentation, including drivers and computer interface. 3.2 Existing chamber The chamber is shielded and equipped with absorbers. There is a raised floor, 2m in height. A turntable Ø1m with a lift, capable of lifting 3500kg (car) 4,5m above the raised floor. The turntable is Orbit AL-2763 with an AL-4189 controller. The turntable is placed ca. 5.3 m from the probe wall (south wall), so it is not centered (North-south) in the room. Drawings will be provided later. Side 4
3.3 Gantry arm or Arc scanner The gantry arm or arc scanner will, in combination with the existing turntable, be used for spherical near- and far-field antenna measurements. The frequency range is preferably 500 MHz to 110 GHz or as high as possible. Please specify options. The DUT can e.g. be a car, a person, or small devices as phantoms and single antennas. The DUT height is 5m over the raised floor. The supplier must install a gantry arm or arc scanner for moving the probe antenna on a circular path. The angular range and radius of this path should be as large as possible within the physical limitations, of the lifting device. It is suggested to place the arm diagonally in the room, in order to hide it for the Long Range setup or to find another means to hide the arm, when the Long range is in use. The delivery shall include a full operational system: Gantry arm or arc scanner covered with absorbers where relevant Adjustment capabilities to align the axes to the axis of the turntable as required for spherical near-field measurements A mast for small devices, mounted on the turntable, and a mast with a chair for person, mounted on the turntable, including test person security, and access. Low loss cables on the arm to the probe suited for near field measurements. Probes for two polarizations; the entire frequency span must be included 3.4 Long range In this setup, a probe antenna is mounted at the end wall (south) and a pedestal for moving a DUT at the other end. Side 5
14m North DUT 10m 5m 2m 3.5 The Pedestal The pedestal shall be used with the long range for spherical near- and far-field measurements, with a roll over azimuth set-up: Height of DUT: 5m over raised floor Load 500kg. Not a sharp limit, if a more convenient solution is attractive with less load, please specify. Axes: Roll over azimuth, elevation adjustment for compensating heavy load. XY- table for DUT/mast preferably motorized. 1m longitudinal (roll-direction) movement and transversal (perpendicular to roll) movement as required to ensure alignment of the azimuth and roll axes. Precisions suited for near field measurements, up to 110GHz. Rotary joints on roll and azimuth axes, preferable to 67GHz, dual channel if possible. Slip rings, for control (TTL) and user power (230V) If preferred it is possible to modify an existing Orbit Pedestal. 3.6 Probe Probes for both polarizations, entire frequency span. Side 6
Mounted on a linear sledge. Motorized with manual control. Space for signal generator, mixer etc. behind/under probe. Means for alignment of probe pointing direction. 3.7 Cabling From Instrument room to two measurements systems. 3.8 Laser system For aligning the DUT, in the two quiet zones. Tools for alignment of the positioner axes for both set-up s. 3.9 CCTV Camera as dome, pan, tilt and zoom. Cameras must be colour and minimum 2MP. Cable of covering the two measurement quiet zones. Recording must be for at least 8-10 pictures/sec. Monitor and control in the instrument room Software For both systems, Gantry arm and Long range: Software for position control, data collection, calibration etc. Software for near- to far-field transformation Antenna measuring software with standard measurements of antennas as: o Radiation pattern o Efficiency o Gain o Directivity o Polarization Side 7
o etc. The software should be modular with well-defined interfaces, so it is possible to make modifications. 4. Measurement system for the OTA chamber 4.1 General The task is to implement a complete measurement facility. Everything must be supplied with full technical documentation, including drivers and computer interface. The chamber is equipped with absorbers. 4.2 Multi probe antenna measurement system.
