3 1 CONFIGURATION The MRS-1000 radar system is designed around X-band radar and consists of the following units: Outdoor equipment: Radar (Antenna MRS-1000-AU and Rotation Unit MRS-1000-RU); Communication cable MRS-1000-CC. Indoor equipment: Communication Unit MRS-1000-CU. i CAUTION! The antenna unit and rotation unit are designed for operation under ambient air temperature conditions varying from minus 40 С to plus 55 С, while the communication unit, from minus 10 С to plus 40 С. 4 2 FEATURES Radar uses FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar technology. The main distinguishing feature of broadband radar unlike traditional pulsed radars is solid-state element base instead of the magnetron, which significantly increases the MTBF without additional maintenance. Thus the radar image is the same as that of the magnetron radar. Radar transmits a signal of increasing frequency. Measuring the difference between the current transmitted frequency and echoed frequency allows to calculate the time of the returned echoes and, as a result, the distance to a target. 5 3 GENERAL INFORMATION SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Radar may only be operated by the staff who have studied this Operator's Manual and Safety Rules for Operation of Consuming Electric Installations. Installation of radar on antenna or radar posts may be performed only by staff authorized for construction works on altitudes above 2 meters.! NO PERSONNEL SHALL BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN THE NEAR VICINITY OF THE SYSTEM S ANTENNA UNIT WHEN THE TRANSMITTER IS SWITCHED ON AND WORKING ON AIR!! WHEN THE SYSTEM IS ON, IT IS FORBID- DEN TO: OPEN ITS COMPONENTS OR REPLACE POWER SUPPLY UNITS; DISCONNECT OR RECONNECT COM- MUNICATION OR POWER CABLES; USING MEASURING INSTRUMENTS AND ACCESSORIES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN DULY CERTIFIED. INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL Radar installation and removal operations shall be carried out according to the Installation Manual. i CAUTION! Before preventative maintenance operations, turn the radar power off and disconnect it from the 24 V electrical system. Preventative maintenance operations include the check for reliable attachment of the radar, power cables, check of the housing for damage (presence of cracks, holes, delamination), cleaning the housing from dirt, ice and other depositions. Should thread connections get loose, tighten them up. It is recommended to perform preventative maintenance of the radar after a winter season and upon exposure to extremely adverse environmental factors (wind velocities exceeding 20 m/c, heavy rains, ice build-up, etc.). i CAUTION! To avoid radar performance degradation, avoid damage to the protective housing of the antenna unit, presence of dirt, oil stains, ice build-up, snow and other depositions hindering radio wave propagation.! IT IS PROHIBITED TO APPLY ADHESIVE FILM TO OR PAINT THE ANTENNA UNIT HOUSING! MAINTENANCE In normal mode, the radar system requires no maintenance nor any operations by maintenance personnel (except for preventive maintenance). Repair of the station is carried out at the manufacturing plant. 5

6 GENERAL INFORMATION FUSE REPLACEMENT The radar system is fitted with fuses to protect power supply circuits in the following units: Rotation unit (24 V power supply circuit) Communication unit (24 V power supply circuit and 220 V electrical system) Procedure for Rotation Unit Fuse Replacement 1. De-energize the communication unit by setting the 220 V ON/OFF switch to the OFF position (if the unit supplied from 220 VAC electrical system) or detach the connector of the 24 VDC electrical system. 2. Set the ON/Off switch on the rotation unit to the OFF position. 3. Detach the cable from the rotation unit connector. 4. Undo six M4 screws on the rotation unit cover. Carefully move it aside. 5. Remove the fuse from the fuse holder connector arranged on the board. Replace the fuse with a new one. i CAUTION! The new fuse shall comply with the following requirements: Fusible link, for cars, mini format Rated current of 7.5 A. 6. Close the cover and drive in six M4 screws. 7. Attach the cable to the connector and set the ON/OFF toggle switch to the ON position. 1 On/Off switch Connector 1 Fuse Holder M4 screws 6

7 GENERAL INFORMATION Procedure for Communication Unit Fuse Replacement If powered from 24VDC power supply circuit: 1. Detach 24VDC connector of the electrical system. 2. Slightly press the fuse holder cover and turn it counter-clockwise. 3. Remove the fuse holder. If powered from the electrical system of 220VAC: 1. Set the 220VAC power switch to the OFF position. 2. Detach 220VAC power connector of the electrical system. 4. Replace the fuse with a new one. i CAUTION! The new fuse shall comply with the following requirements: Cylindrical fuse link measuring 5x20 Rated current of 5 A. i CAUTION! The new fuse shall comply with the following requirements: Cylindrical fuse link measuring 5x20 Rated current of 2 A. 5. Insert the 24VDC fuse holder into the unit and turn it clockwise. 6. Attach 24VDC connector of the electrical system. 3. Remove the 220VAC fuse holder. 4. Replace the fuse with a new one. 5. Insert the 220VAC fuse holder into the unit. 6. Attach 220VAC connector of the electrical system. 7

Do not allow underwater submersion of MRS-1000! STORAGE The packed radar system can be stored for 24 months starting from the date of shipment inside unheated storage premises at a temperature from minus 50 С to plus 50 С and average monthly relative air humidity of 80% at plus 20 С. A short-term humidity elevation up to 98% at plus 25 С without condensation is permitted, provided the total period does not exceed 1 month per one year of storage. The storage term of a preserved radar in the above conditions without represervation is 2 years. The ambient air in storage premises shall be free from corrosion-active substances (fumes of acids, alcali, etc.). Storage conditions shall prevent exposure to biologic factors (fungi, bacteria, insects, etc.). On expiration of the storage term, inspect the radar visually for condition. TRANSPORTATION The packed radar system may be transported by railway, road, water or air transport. Packages to be transported on the decks of vessels, inside railway cars, on platforms or in open motor vehicles, by air transport shall be arranged and secured in accordance with the standards, regulations and transportation rules applicable to the respective mode of transport. During cargo handling operations, package surface shall be inscribed with the appropriate instructions and handling symbols. Transportation conditions as regards exposure to climatic factors shall not exceed the following values: Ambient air temperature from minus 50 С to plus 50 С Relative air humidity of 95% at plus 25 С 8

9 GENERAL INFORMATION DISPOSAL The radar does not contain any hazardous or poisonous substances posing threat to human health or environment and is not dangerous for life, human health or environment after expiration of the service (operating) life. Disposal of the radar can be performed in accordance with the disposal rules established for general-purpose industrial wastes. Radars that have lost their consumer properties shall be disposed of by special agencies authorized by the government in accordance with local law. MANUFACTURER S WARRANTY The Manufacturer guarantees compliance of the radar with all specification requirements during two years, provided the user follows the conditions and rules of transportation, storage, installation and operation set forth in the operating documents. The guaranteed operating life of the radar is 2 years from the date of its acceptance by the user. The service life of the radar is 10 years. 9
